Overview
Dar Sabra is a brilliant, unique and extremely comfortable villa located in the thriving heart of the Palmeraie, just ten minutes from the heady, buzzing centre of Marrakech. This fantastic six-bedroom villa comes with a full house staff who are ready to look after your every whim. It boasts sensational gardens, terraces, a tennis court, a swimming pool, a children’s play area, a hammam and gorgeous, colourful living spaces. Dar Sabra was built in a flamboyant style by the famous architect Elie Mouyal and decorated by Jacqueline Foissac. The villa will transport you back to the Marrakech of the 1970s and is the perfect holiday haven that promises relaxation and rejuvenation away from the beating heart of this magical city. Guests in search of authenticity, calm, space and beauty will relish in Dar Sabra’s wonder.
Dar Sabra enjoys rustic peach hues, a lived-in ambience and a warm Moroccan charm. It is set within a fabulous green park of three hectares. You will be lured into the seductive pool, can relax on sumptuous outdoor day beds, dine alfresco, take pre-dinner drinks in a beautiful setting, soak up the sun and admire Dar Sabra’s vast, beautiful gardens, which are sprinkled with palms, fruit trees, olive trees, cypresses, bougainvillaea, hedges and colourful plants. Its French garden is followed by ponds, an Andalusian garden and a cactus garden. The 15m x 5.5m swimming can be heated on request and is surrounded by luxury sun loungers and day beds, a pool house and a traditional hammam, which is also available on request. Children are happy in the playground area with its trampoline, swings, sandbox, table tennis and other equipment. Tennis fans love the clay tennis court.
Dar Sabra was built by the best local craftsmen and came with the traditional technique of tadelakt. Each room offers a different colour palette and is very individual in styling. A large living room sits under a dome and is connected to the dining room and spacious kitchen. It comes in cool, natural hues, offering comfy sofas, a television and direct access to the gardens. Upstairs, there is another living space with a fireplace that comes in wonderful shades of turquoise, green, blue and red. It is an inviting room that offers charm and character in abundance. This living room extends to a beautifully furnished terrace that stretches the length of the villa offering superb vistas. In addition, the villa also offers an air-conditioned indoor play area with a home cinema and gym.
The ground floor is home to three fabulous double bedrooms with private bathrooms and small adjoining children’s bedrooms. The bathrooms all offer showers and baths where you can soak your stresses away. Two of the rooms offer double beds, beautifully adorned with lavish soft furnishings, and the other enjoys a kingsized bed. The children’s rooms come with a bed for a nanny or child and a cot or two mattresses. There are two red and white master suites on the first floor, both with an ensuite bathroom and a private terrace. In the patio wing, to the right of the entrance, you will discover the sixth double room, which was a later addition and is accessible from the outside. It, too, offers a stylish ensuite bathroom. All of the bedrooms offer televisions which invite long lazy lie-ins. The ground-floor bedrooms are accessible through the large central living room. You will soon relish in the beauty of these bedroom suites with their ornate detailing, wonderful colours and gorgeous ceilings.

Location
About the surrounding area of Dar SabraDar Sabra is nestled in the historic heart of the Palmeraie, just outside downtown Marrakech and the Medina. The Palmeraie is a wonderful, calm area which connects Casablanca to Fez. Golf enthusiasts enjoy the Golf de la Palmeraie club, which is very close to the villa. An equestrian centre and camel riding are also nearby. It is a fabulous spot away from the vibrancy and heady buzz of the city. Quad bikes are also popular, and hot air balloon rides with Marrakech Balloon.
Marrakech is a bustling, colourful city that is alive with smells, sounds and vibrant sights. In 1985, Marrakech’s Medina was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Colourful spices, glistening silver lamps with the promise of a genie, vibrant carpets and leather in every shade imaginable are combined with its rich, ancient architecture in a fabulous kaleidoscope of colour. Its souks are loud, thrilling and very exciting. You will discover snake charmers, storytellers and potion sellers. Dining in the Medina is an adventure which will set your tastebuds tingling. Smoke rises from barbecues which are enjoyed along with Gnawa musicians, acrobats and fortune tellers. The famous Patisserie des Princes is perfect for sweet treats and ice cream afterwards. Many of the riads boast exquisite restaurants for fine dining experiences where you will enjoy creative, spice-laced modern Moroccan menus. Hammams were introduced to the city by the Romans and adapted to fit Islamic ablution rituals. Visitors enjoy wonderful hammam experiences at Hammam de la Rose, the Farnatchi Spa, the deluxe Royal Mansour and many other spas.
The 16th-century Saadian Tombs give you an insight into the city’s history. Sultan al-Mansour spared no expense in decorating his opulent mausoleum with imported Italian Carrara marble and a gilded honeycomb muqarnas ceiling. The once magnificent Bali Palace is now a monumental ruin with giant reflecting pools and breathtaking views of the city. The stunning Bahia Palace is amazing and offers the mesmerising quarters of Bou Ahmed’s favourite concubine, Lalla Zineb.
As well as magnificent mosques and palaces, Marrakech enjoys a calm and beautiful cloak of green. The area around the city is sprinkled with magical gardens. Le Jardin Secret is one of Medina’s largest and most important gardens, with a Persian garden full of tufty grasses and olive, pomegranate, fig and date trees and a second smaller garden offering exotic plants. An elaborate irrigation system weaves its way through the gardens, part of an ancient network that once distributed water from artesian wells and fed by the mountains. When fashion icon Yves St Laurent arrived in the city in 1964, he was overwhelmed by the city and its vivacity. He lived in the Jardin Majorelle with his partner, a lush garden painted with an intense shade of ultramarine blue. It is sprinkled with giant cacti, palms and bamboo groves. The Berber Museum is filled with Yves St Laurent’s personal jewellery and fashion collection, and the Musee Yves St Laurent offers a stunning choreography presentation of the clothes in a dramatic black hall.
Marrakech also gives you the opportunity to be rewarded by an experience in the quiet cool of its surrounding mountain valleys. It is the perfect contrast to the thrillingly frantic energy of the Medina and the buzz of its museums, palaces and gardens. After a delicious Moroccan feast around Djemaa El Fna, you can trek up Northern Africa’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal or enjoy a surprising experience of North African skiing at Oukaimeden. The Atlas Mountains are sprinkled with pretty villages, beautiful waterfalls and dramatic viewpoints. Imlil is a popular hub to start exploring, and the Bureau des Guides d’Imlil can arrange guides. You will enjoy unforgettable day trips, visit traditional villages, taste delicious food, and enjoy the fabulous scenery and a mesmerising mix of Berber, Arabian and European cultural influences. You will also discover some of the best golf courses in Marrakech, including the Amelkis Championship Golf Course and the Marrakech Royal Golf Club.

Best Suited For: All AgesDar Sabra is a brilliant pick for families wanting to visit Marrakech and enjoy some downtime. It offers an endless list of entertainment, including a children’s trampoline, play area, swings, sandbox, board games, table tennis, an indoor playroom and a swimming pool. What more could you possibly want? Babysitting is available too for an extra cost.
The Palmeraie is a great area just outside the buzz of the city. There is lots to do, including camel rides which little ones get very excited about. However, with the gardens and villa entertainment, you might feel like staying put when you are not in the Medina or the mountains!
The wonderful Eden Aquapark is a top family pick. It boasts endless rides, slides, swimming pools, a river, a beach for little pirates, entertainment and a luxurious hotel attached to it. It is a giant aquapark that offers a world of water entertainment.
Marrakech promises fascinating delights around every corner, from cooking classes to mule rides and shopping experiences. The Amal Women’s Centre offers cooking classes for kids. Marrakech offers many gardens that are just lovely. Harti Jardin and Cyper Park are great for good walks. There are two small amusement parks for younger children, Ludipark and Paloozaland. Ludipark offers bouncy castles, pony rides, a mini zoo and an aquapark. Paloozaland offers a dinosaur theme and enjoys several rides, a 6D cinema, a swimming pool and live shows. There are always camels near the Menara Gardens which kids can ride. If you want more of a desert camel ride, you can take a taxi or arrange a ride through your riad to the Palmeraie. Another popular trip is to the Moulay Hassan racetrack on the edge of Marrakech for some kart racing. Moroccans make tea very well, so you can arrange a wonderful afternoon tea at the Royal Mansour. Kids also enjoy getting a henna tattoo or seeing a Fantasia Show. Chez Ali is a show that has been going for years and includes dinner as well as performances with horse riders and music. You will see horse carriages everywhere though you might want to check if the horses look well cared for.
Terres d’Amanar is a zipline park roughly forty-five minutes outside of Marrakech. There are activities for all ages, with a pool and lunch included. Children love heading for the Atlas Mountains and enjoying stops at the village of Imlil, where they can enjoy mule rides and see the waterfalls. The Ourika Valley is another fabulous trip where kids can play in the shallow Ouritka River and hike to the waterfalls.
The Anima Gardens are lovely, with lots of sculptures as well as natural fauna. You can buy a timed ticket which helps to ensure that the gardens are not too crowded. There are shuttles to and from the city.
