Overview
Built on the foundations of an ancient farmhouse, Villa Abiad is immensely characterful yet offers guests exceptional amenities, perfect for a memorable holiday. It sits in the heart of a stunning garden with eight bedrooms, fabulous entertainment spaces, a gorgeous swimming pool, a private tennis court and a wonderful team of staff. The villa is authentic, spacious and beautifully presented throughout.
Villa Abiad is one of the oldest houses of the Palmeraie. It is utterly charming, with many authentic Moroccan features blending beautifully with modern amenities. The villa is built around two courtyards, one large and one small. From the large courtyard, you will discover exquisite living spaces and three large bedroom suites. Surrounding the smaller courtyard are three-bedroom suites, and the final two bedrooms overlook the swimming pool. The main living room enjoys separate lounge sections, which suit large groups of guests. Under a delightful beamed ceiling, you will discover a characterful fireplace in one corner of the room, together with a comfy sofa and wooden accent chairs. Another recessed area is totally charming, with low seating sprinkled with scatter cushions, colourful windows and a wonderful plaster finish. The dining table sits in another corner of the room, while a large lounge area sits near the terrace with fabulous garden views. There are spaces for pre-dinner drinks, board games, chatting, snacking and dining.
The master bedroom suite offers splendid garden views too, as well as offering a beautifully dressed king size bed, a fireplace for a crackling atmosphere, an office desk, sofa, television and an ensuite bathroom with his and hers sinks, a shower and a bathtub to soak away your stresses. With direct access to the courtyard and terrace and with garden views, two rooms offer comfy kingsize beds, shower rooms and televisions. One enjoys a private terrace. Another two rooms boast double beds adorned with lux linens and pretty soft furnishings and ensuites, one with a shower and the other with a bath and shower attachment. The next room boasts a double bed, television and a private bathroom, albeit it is outside the room. Two further rooms enjoy kingsize beds, ensuites with baths and shower attachments, fireplaces, living areas and televisions. The rooms are all individually decorated, and most offer seating areas. No one will be disappointed with their room.
The magic of Villa Abiad also continues outside, where you will find a fabulous swimming pool surrounded with deckchairs and sun loungers, an alfresco dining area under the trees, a private tennis court, hundreds of centuries-old olive trees, lush lawns, towering palms and lots of pretty little spots where you can disappear with your holiday book and a glass of your favourite tipple to bask in the sun.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa AbiadVilla Abiad enjoys a peaceful, tranquil location just outside of Marrakech’s Medina. This beautifully landscaped area of the Palmeraie is smart, attractive, and sophisticated and offers a good selection of entertainment options. It connects Casablanca to Fez. Golf enthusiasts enjoy the Golf de la Palmeraie club, which is moments from the villa. An equestrian centre and camel riding are also nearby. Quad bikes and hot air balloon rides with Marrakech Balloon are also popular.
Marrakech is a bustling, intoxicating, colourful city of wonders that offers an inexhaustible source of surprises. It is Africa’s Capital of Culture, where everything is on the move. Finding out all of its secrets would take forever, but you can visit a handful of attractions in a few days to get a taste of its noble past and its frenetic present. Colourful spices, glistening lamps, colourful carpets and leather in every shade imaginable are combined with rich, ancient architecture to capture your heart and soul. Its souks are loud, thrilling and very exciting. You can shop for sweets, clothing, leather, spices, soap, perfume, rugs, lighting, musical instruments and much more. All prices are negotiable, and bargaining is a social art. You will discover snake charmers, story tellers and potion sellers. Dining in the Medina is an adventure and will set your tastebuds tingling. Smoke rises from barbecues which are enjoyed along with Gnawa musicians, acrobats and fortune tellers. The famous Patisserie des Princes is perfect for sweet treats and ice cream afterwards. Many of the riads boast exquisite restaurants for fine dining experiences where you will enjoy creative, spice-laced modern Moroccan menus, many of which are on rooftops with fabulous views. Your friendly staff at the riad can recommend and book tables for you. The wonderful Riad Yima Tea Room is the home and personal gallery of Hassan Hajjaj, the Andy Warhol of Marrakech and is filled with upcycled pop art. It is fun and a great place to grab a classic cup of mint tea. The Medina’s labyrinth of winding lanes and alleyways is best explored with a willingness to get lost and a sense of adventure. In 1985 the Medina was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hammams were introduced to the city by the Romans and adapted to fit Islamic ablution rituals. Visitors enjoy wonderful hammam experiences at Hammam de la Rose, the Farnatchi Spa, the deluxe Royal Mansour and many other spas.
Marrakech enjoys many stunning buildings. The Bahia Palace was built in the late 19th century and now forms the centre of the city’s culture. It boasts incredible decor along with high, gilded ceilings, mosaics, stuccos, paintings, the mesmerising quarters of Bou Ahmed’s favourite concubine, Lalla Zineb and an enormous landscaped garden.
Marrakech enjoys an excellent collection of museums, including Maison de la Photographie, a three-storey riad-turned-gallery housing the vintage Moroccan photography collection of Patrick Menac’h and Marrakshi Hamid Mergani. Its rooftop cafe is one of the highest in Medina. The Musee Tiskiwin displays the history of Marrakech and the region in general. The Dar Si Said Museum is an exhibition of historic and contemporary Moroccan art, full of intricate Byzantine designs and colours. The Musee Boucharouite features stunning tapestries and another hidden rooftop cafe, while the Musee de Mouassine shows off the work of a local artist. The Music Museum is located in the Saadian quarter, built in the 16th and 17th centuries. The reception of the museum is a jewel of Arab-Andalusian architecture.
The area around Marrakech’s Medina is sprinkled with magical gardens. Le Jardin Secret is one of Medina’s largest and most important gardens, with a Persian garden full of tufty grasses and olive, pomegranate, fig and date trees and a second smaller garden offering exotic plants. An elaborate irrigation system weaves its way through the gardens, part of an ancient network that once distributed water from artesian wells and fed by the mountains. When fashion icon Yves St Laurent arrived in the city in 1964, he was overwhelmed by the city and its vivacity. He lived in the Jardin Majorelle with his partner, a lush garden painted with an intense shade of ultramarine blue. It is full of giant cacti, palms and bamboo groves. The Berber Museum is filled with Yves St Laurent’s personal jewellery and fashion collection, and the Musee Yves St Laurent offers a stunning choreography presentation of the clothes in a dramatic black hall.
Visitors to Marrakech usually enjoy combining trips to the Medina with excursions into the mountains and its mountain villages. It is the perfect contrast to the thrillingly frantic energy of the Medina and the buzz of its museums, palaces and gardens. After a delicious Moroccan feast around Djemaa El Fna, you can trek up Northern Africa’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal or enjoy a surprising experience of North African skiing at Oukaimeden. The Atlas Mountains are sprinkled with pretty villages, beautiful waterfalls and dramatic viewpoints. Imlil is a popular hub to start exploring, and the Bureau des Guides d’Imlil can arrange guides. You will enjoy unforgettable day trips, visit traditional villages, taste delicious food, and enjoy the fabulous scenery and a mesmerising mix of Berber, Arabian and European cultural influences. You will also discover some of the best golf courses in Marrakech, including the Amelkis Championship Golf course and the Marrakech Royal Golf Club.

The Palmeraie is a great area just outside Marrakech’s city centre. There is lots to do, including camel rides, quad biking and hot air ballooning. Marrakech promises an endless list of entertainment and fascinating delights around every corner. There are cooking classes, mule rides, shopping and bartering opportunities and entertainers to gaze at in awe. Marrakech offers many delightful gardens, including Harti Jardin and Cyper Park, which are great for good walks. There are two small amusement parks for younger children, Ludipark and Paloozaland. Ludipark offers bouncy castles, pony rides, a mini zoo and an aquapark. Paloozaland offers a dinosaur theme and enjoys several rides, a 6D cinema, a swimming pool and live shows. There are always camels near the Menara Gardens which kids can ride. If you want more of a desert camel ride, you can take a taxi or arrange a ride through your riad to the Palmeraie. Another popular trip is to the Moulay Hassan racetrack on the edge of Marrakech for some kart racing. Moroccans do tea very well, so you can arrange a wonderful afternoon tea at the Royal Mansour. Kids also enjoy getting a henna tattoo or seeing a Fantasia Show. Chez Ali is a show that has been going for years and includes dinner as well as performances with horse riders and music. You will see horse carriages everywhere though you might want to check if the horses look well cared for.
The thrilling Oasiria Waterpark, on the outskirts of Marrakech, offers eight swimming pools, twenty fabulous attractions and seventeen slides. One of the attractions, Aquaroc, is the first climbing wall in Africa. It is 25m long by 5m high and offers three courses, initiation, improvement and training. The waterpark sits in ten hectares of landscaped gardens sprinkled with ponds, paths, flowerbeds, century-old olive trees, desert crossings, palms, wooden pontoons, streams and colourful flowers and there are five restaurants. There is even a kids club for six to nine-year-olds and nine to twelve-year-olds with meals and snacks included. These are run by experienced leads which offer supervised swimming, treasure hunts, fairs, toboggan competitions, climbing on the Aquaroc, beach soccer, water games, tug of war, football and more. The wonderful Eden Aquapark is another popular family pick. It boasts endless rides, slides, swimming pools, a river, a beach for little pirates, entertainment and a luxurious hotel attached to it. It is a giant aquapark that offers a world of water entertainment.
Terres d’Amanar is a zipline park roughly forty-five minutes outside of Marrakech. There are activities for all ages, with a pool and lunch included. Children love heading for the Atlas Mountains and enjoying stops at the village of Imlil, where they can enjoy mule rides and see the waterfalls. The Ourika Valley is another fabulous trip where kids can play in the shallow Ouritka River and hike to the waterfalls.
The Anima Gardens are delightful, with lots of sculptures as well as natural fauna. You can buy a timed ticket which helps to ensure that the gardens are not too crowded. There are shuttles to and from the city.
