Villa Achbarou is a phenomenal property with huge living and entertaining spaces, eighteen bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms, a hammam, massage room, a stunning twenty-eight metre long swimming pool, four hectares of landscaped gardens and the most incredible backdrop of the Atlas Mountains. The views from the pool and gardens are sublime and totally unforgettable. The villa comes with an excellent staff who will keep it looking pristine, offer great advice and provide delicious breakfasts. In addition, you can decide to upgrade this catering arrangement to half or full board or simply ask for the occasional added meal. Villa Achbarou was designed by the wonderful and very clever Ludovic Petit to offer exceptional accommodation for groups of friends, multi-generational families or corporate companies.
Villa Achbarou boasts eighteen superb bedrooms, sleeping between thirty-two and thirty-six guests. It also offers an extremely lavish living room, a giant dining area and a spa. The bedrooms are split between the ground floor and the first floor. Nine double rooms are located on the ground level, all with sumptuous, beautifully dressed queen-size beds, which can be set up as twin beds on request and all with ensuite bathrooms with baths where you can soak away your stresses using luxury toiletries. They all enjoy private furnished terraces, so there is plenty of privacy at Villa Achbarou, as well as giant spaces for the whole group. The rooms enjoy a wonderful contemporary feel and excellent amenities, including televisions in all rooms. The remaining bedrooms are located on the first floor with queen-sized beds, all beautifully adorned with luxury linens and fabulous soft furnishings. They also enjoy ensuite bathrooms, though with walk-in showers. These rooms all boast private balconies with spectacular views of the estate and the mountains.
The main living space is really quite spectacular with a glitzy feature fireplace wall, an enormous chandelier, lavish sofas and quality accent chairs. This leads to an ultra-smart dining area with numerous dining tables and chairs that can be configured to suit your group. It is elegant and sophisticated with wonderful colour splashes. The well-stocked bar is a welcome addition for pre-dinner or late-night drinks. The spa includes a hammam and massage room where you can relax and feel totally pampered.
Outside, you will discover a fabulous shaded alfresco dining area with outstanding mountain views, tables and chairs under the shade of centuries-old olive trees, a phenomenal swimming pool surrounded with shaded day beds and loungers, parasols and the most incredible mountain backdrop. Though you may think this is the perfect spot for some reading, you will be truly captivated by the views and may not be able to concentrate on your book! Next to the pool is the pool house and tables and chairs under the olive trees. Also within the grounds is an organic vegetable garden and a farm with horses, which children love.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa AchbarouVilla Achbarou enjoys a superb location where you can truly relax in sensational surroundings. The villa is situated within a four-hectare estate in Douar Akrich, thirty minutes from Marrakech’s Medina on the road leading to Amizimiz.
Marrakech is a bustling, intoxicating, colourful city of wonders that offers an inexhaustible source of surprises. It is Africa’s Capital of Culture, where everything is on the move. Finding out all of its secrets would take forever, but you can visit a handful of attractions in a few days to get a taste of its noble past and its frenetic present. Colourful spices, glistening lamps, colourful carpets and leather in every shade imaginable are combined with rich, ancient architecture to capture your heart and soul. Its souks are loud, thrilling and frenzied. You can shop for sweets, clothing, leather, spices, soap, perfume, rugs, lighting, musical instruments and much more. All prices are negotiable, and bargaining is a social art. You will discover snake charmers, storytellers and potion sellers. Its dizzying array of sights, smells and tastes with provide a sensory overload. Dining in the Medina is an adventure and will set your tastebuds tingling as Marrakech offers one of the world’s tastiest cuisines. Smoke rises from barbecues, which are enjoyed along with Gnawa musicians, acrobats and fortune tellers. The souks are lined with rows of sweet oranges, plump dates and an enormous variety of olives, while the air is infused with intensely fragrant spices. You will discover the delicious shakshuka and spongy Moroccan pancakes for breakfast and delicious tagines and tanjia, succulent lamb slow-cooked in a clay pot for hours, for dinner. Sfenj are yummy fried doughnuts drizzled with floral honey. Mint tea is served as a sign of welcome at the end of a purchase or to unwind in the afternoon. Many of the riads boast exquisite restaurants for fine dining experiences where you will enjoy creative, spice-laced modern Moroccan menus, many of which are on rooftops with fabulous views. Your friendly staff at the riad can recommend and book tables for you. The wonderful Riad Yima Tea Room is the home and personal gallery of Hassan Hajjaj, the Andy Warhol of Marrakech and is filled with upcycled pop art. It is fun and a great place to grab a classic cup of mint tea. The Medina’s labyrinth of winding lanes and alleyways is best explored with a willingness to get lost and a sense of adventure. In 1985, the Medina was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hammams were introduced to the city by the Romans and adapted to fit with Islamic ablution rituals. Visitors enjoy wonderful hammam experiences at Hammam de la Rose, the Farnatchi Spa, the deluxe Royal Mansour and many other spas.
This Moroccan city-break favourite is also home to a glossy modern quarter, the Gueliz. Beyond Marrakech’s ancient heart is this contemporary, manicured area full of funky cafes, chic shopping opportunities, upmarket restaurants and wonderful museums that are architectural statements. It is alive with artwork, with one of the most famous galleries being the Matisse Art Gallery, named after the 20th-century artist Henri Matisse. It draws some of the best artists from all over Morocco with inspirational exhibitions. You will also discover the Royal Tennis Club of Marrakech with its nine courts plus a stadium court. The club is the oldest and largest tennis club in Marrakech and is often used for sporting events.
Marrakech enjoys a fabulous collection of fascinating museums, including Maison de la Photographie, a three-storey riad-turned-gallery housing the vintage Moroccan photography collection of Patrick Menac’h and Marrakshi Hamid Mergani. Its rooftop cafe is one of the highest in Medina. The Musee Tiskiwin displays the history of Marrakech and the region in general. The Dar Si Said Museum is an exhibition of historic and contemporary Moroccan art, full of intricate Byzantine designs and colours. The Music Museum is located in the Saadian quarter, built in the 16th and 17th centuries. The reception of the museum is a jewel of Arab-Andalusian architecture.
The area around the city is sprinkled with beautiful gardens. Le Jardin Secret is one of the Medina’s largest and most important gardens, with a Persian garden full of tufty grasses and olive, pomegranate, fig and date trees and a second smaller garden offering exotic plants. An elaborate irrigation system weaves its way through the gardens, part of an ancient network that once distributed water from artesian wells and fed by the mountains. When fashion icon Yves St Laurent arrived in the city in 1964 he was overwhelmed by the city and its vivacity. He lived in the Jardin Majorelle with his partner, a lush garden painted with an intense shade of ultramarine blue. It is sprinkled with giant cacti, palms and bamboo groves. The Berber Museum is filled with Yves St Laurent’s personal jewellery and fashion collection, and the Musee Yves St Laurent offers a stunning choreography presentation of the clothes in a dramatic black hall.
Visitors to Marrakech also enjoy heading to the quiet cool of the surrounding mountains. It is the perfect contrast to the thrillingly frantic energy of the Medina and the buzz of its museums, palaces and gardens. After a delicious Moroccan feast around Djemaa El Fna, you can trek up Northern Africa’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal or enjoy a surprising experience of North African skiing at Oukaimeden. The Atlas Mountains are sprinkled with pretty villages, beautiful waterfalls and dramatic viewpoints. Imlil is a popular hub to start exploring, and the Bureau des Guides d’Imlil can arrange guides. You will enjoy unforgettable day trips, visit traditional villages, taste delicious food, enjoy fabulous scenery and a mesmerising mix of Berber, Arabian and European cultural influences. The Valley of Ourika is nestled half an hour from the buzz and energy of Marrakech. It is absolutely gorgeous and very popular with tourists wanting to escape from the city centre and see another side of Morocco. The area is very scenic, with groups of waterfalls tucked behind the village of Setti Fatma, colourful restaurants by the river and friendly Berber tribes wanting to show you around their villages and homes. The Berbers have lived in North Africa for five thousand years. During the Arab invasion in the 7th century, the Berbers took refuge high in the Atlas Mountains. Today, most Berbers are Muslims but have retained the Berber languages in the villages. Barbary macaques are found in the Western High Atlas, an endangered primate. It is a wonderful area for hiking where paths are shaded by trees, and every waterfall looks even more beautiful than the last. In August each year, there is a vibrant four-day market and fair in Setti Fatma.

Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Achbarou is an enormous property, perfect for very large groups of guests. If you want to take a trip with your large multi-generational families or lots of friends with children, the villa is just great. The rooms all enjoy some private space, but the communal entertainment spaces are fantastic. The villa swimming pool is superb, and the gardens are incredible. Children love seeing the horses on the farm.
Children adore the amazing Oasiria Waterpark, which offers eight swimming pools, twenty thrilling attractions and seventeen slides. It is within easy reach of the villa. One of the attractions, Aquaroc is the first climbing wall in Africa. It is 25m long by 5m high and offers three courses: initiation, improvement and training. The waterpark sits in ten hectares of landscaped gardens sprinkled with ponds, paths, flowerbeds, century-old olive trees, desert crossings, palms, wooden pontoons, streams and colourful flowers, and there are five restaurants. There is even a kids club for six to nine-year-olds and nine to twelve-year-olds with meals and snacks included. These are run by experienced leads who offer supervised swimming, treasure hunts, fairs, toboggan competitions, climbing on the Aquaroc, beach soccer, water games, tug of war, football and more. The wonderful Eden Aquapark is another popular family pick. It boasts endless rides, slides, swimming pools, a river, a beach for little pirates, entertainment and a luxurious hotel attached to it. It is a giant aquapark that offers a world of water entertainment.
The labyrinth of Marrakech casts a magical spell on children. Its palm-studded riad gardens, tinkling fountains, fairytale buildings, thrilling souks and street entertainers never fail to amuse children. When night falls, its main square comes alive in what will seem like the greatest show on Earth. Little ones will experience a dizzying array of dancers, storytellers, snake charmers, musicians, monkeys and food stall vendors. Families can enjoy mule rides, cooking lessons, bartering experiences and delicious meals. Marrakech enjoys many delightful gardens, including Harti Jardin and Cyper Park, that are great for good walks. There are two small amusement parks for younger children, Ludipark and Paloozaland. Ludipark offers bouncy castles, pony rides, a mini zoo and an aquapark. Paloozaland offers a dinosaur theme and enjoys several rides, a 6D cinema, a swimming pool and live shows. There are always camels near the Menara Gardens, which kids can ride. If you want more of a desert camel ride, you can take a taxi or arrange a ride through your riad to the Palmeraie. Another popular trip is to the Moulay Hassan racetrack on the edge of Marrakech for some kart racing. Moroccans do tea very well so you can arrange a wonderful afternoon tea at the Royal Mansour. Kids also enjoy getting a henna tattoo or seeing a Fantasia Show. Chez Ali is a show that has been going for years and includes dinner as well as performances with horse riders and music. You will see horse carriages everywhere, though you might want to check if the horses look well cared for.
Terres d’Amanar is a zipline park roughly forty-five minutes outside of Marrakech. There are activities for all ages, with a pool and lunch included. Children love heading for the Atlas Mountains and enjoying stops at the village of Imlil where they can enjoy mule rides and see the waterfalls. The Ourika Valley is another fabulous trip where kids can play in the shallow Ouritka River and hike to the waterfalls.
The Anima Gardens are lovely, with lots of sculptures as well as natural fauna. You can buy a timed ticket, which helps to ensure that the gardens are not too crowded. There are shuttles to and from the city.

Villa Achbarou
Villa Achbarou took great care to ensure our large group of 21 guests were taken care of. The attention to detail for our meal preparation was excellent. The staff were patient and considerate to our many different and last minute requests. Our hotel Manager Meriem went above and beyond her call of duty to ensure everyone was comfortable, relaxed and safe. We loved the hotel facilities including the pool and hammam and the grounds were impeccable.
A major highlight was the cuisine we enjoyed every day. We had many different meal planning requirements that the chef and team catered for and each day brought a new and exciting meal for our guests. A highlight of our stay was a party event dinner on our last night, with a Moroccan feast, traditional music and dance. I would highly recommend this to guests. I can't recommend Villa Achbarou highly enough for a large group of friends but especially for a company retreat. The space to think and reflect and also come together to brainstorm and enjoy each others company makes it the ideal location for this kind of event. Thank you Meriem and your team for making this a memorable experience.
There is no wifi in a number of the bedrooms. Many of our guests wanted to work from their bedrooms but there was no wifi signal. I was staying in Room 3 and there was zero wifi.
Tea and coffee making facilities in the bedroom would be nice.
Blankets on the terrace in the evening for when the temperature drops.
