Set within a lush nature reserve, Casa Luum is a sleek and modern villa that offers an idyllic retreat in the heart of the Algarve.
With white walls, concrete, and strong lines throughout, the house has been expertly designed by award-winning Lisbon-based architects, Pedro Domingos Arquitectos, to match its sister property, Casa Agostos. Rent the pair together and experience the ultimate large group escape - also ideal for multiple families holidaying together.
Casa Luum has four double bedrooms for a maximum of seven guests and one toddler, all of which are on the ground level. There are two large bathrooms, as well as two outdoor showers that are great for rinsing off pre- and post-swim.
Inside, the property has a lounge with a cosy yet modern fireplace at its centre. The family kitchen is well-equipped for entertaining, and there is enough dining space to accommodate all guests.
Heading outside, and this is where Casa Luum really comes into its element. The property was once an old ruin, situated at the end of an unassuming dirt road, yet so much love and care has gone into its restoration to ensure that the space beautifully blends with the wildflowers and olive groves surrounding the villa.
The gardens have been designed by Lisbon-based landscape gardener Sigmentum, intended to showcase the natural beauty of the area with seeds collected from the wild by botanical architects. Keen cooks are welcome to help themselves to the locally grown herbs and other aromatic plants, to create their very own, flavoursome dishes inspired by traditional Portuguese cuisine.
Families with older kids and larger groups will love the semi-enclosed swimming pool. Make the most of the Algarve’s brilliantly warm and sunny weather, and spend the day and night on the outdoor lounge spaces, dining area, and pool deck. Head to the roof terrace to enjoy spectacular views of the countryside, day and night, or cosy round the fire in the upper living room on cooler evenings. Every bedroom also has easy access to a terrace too, effortlessly blending the outside with the indoors.
This impressive property is finished with largely local furnishings, handmade in the nearby area. Pottery and blankets accentuate the locally sourced handmade doors, windows and shutters, while natural stone is the main feature of the pool, kitchen counter, sinks and benches.

About the surrounding area of Casa LuumSet in the heart of the Algarve countryside, Casa Luum is a five minutes drive from Santa Barbara de Nexe, a small but convenient village with a selection of shops, bars, and restaurants.
Head 20 minutes towards the coast, and you’ll be treated to some of the best beaches in the Algarve. Soft white sand, waves that are perfect for both swimming and surfing, and ample coves for you to explore. The closest, Praia da Falésia, was recently named one of the best beaches in Europe by the TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers’ Choice Awards. Backdropped by striking cliffs, this stunning beach also has a lifeguard.
If you’re a keen golfer (or eager to try!), you’re in luck - Casa Luum is just a 10-15 minute drive away from some world-class golf courses. Live the life of a professional and try your hand on the Quinta do Lago courses, considered among many to be Portugal’s finest, and home to a number of international golfing championships.
Indulge in a touch of retail therapy during your villa holiday in Portugal, with Mar Shopping Algarve just a 10-minute drive from the property. A huge shopping centre, you’ll find everything your shopaholic heart desires in this mall, perfect for days when you want to escape the heat and seek some shade.
Aside from the spectacular beaches, one of the main attractions of the Algarve region is the Ria Formosa nature reserve, which Casa Luum is also conveniently near. Take part in boat and kayak tours, as well as birdwatching, beachcombing, and exploring the range of landscapes with your family. The ultimate, nature-filled day out.
For wine lovers, the Algarve region is a must-visit. The area is famed for its wineries and vineyards, many of which are among the most renowned in Europe, if not the world. Spend the day exploring the various family-owned estates in the area, embarking on a wine tasting tour of the attractions.

THE REGION
Almancil, a charming, tranquil town in the Algarve region of Portugal, is a gorgeous hidden gem waiting to be explored by visitors seeking a mix of history, culture and beauty. With its rich history, picturesque surroundings, pottery and famous church, Almancil offers a unique experience for visitors of all ages.
For those who enjoy the great outdoors, Almancil's location near the Ria Formosa Natural Park provides ample opportunities for hiking, bird-watching and appreciating the area's diverse ecosystem. The park is a haven for wildlife and you will spot various bird species and other animals in their natural habitat while hiking, cycling or boating.
Almancil is conveniently located, making it an excellent base for exploring the Algarve. Just a short drive away, you will find the lively upmarket resort town of Vilamoura, known for its marina, vibrant nightlife, casino and beautiful beaches. But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Best Suited For: All AgesLooking for a family-friendly holiday in the Algarve that your kids will love? Casa Luum is the place to be. Watch your kids play in the pool while you relax inside, as the kitchen has a large pivoting window that allows for a full view of the swim area.
Sandy toes? Not to worry - rinse off in the outdoor shower after a day spent on the beach, before unwinding in the comfortable bedrooms. There’s an extra toddler bed in one of the rooms for your convenience, too.
Casa Luum is a natural playground for kids, being surrounded by nature and indigenous trees in the heart of a nature reserve. Your little ones can spend the days in the villa grounds running wild, exploring all that this beautiful part of the countryside has to offer.
The location of the property is also perfect for a kid-friendly holiday. Head to the coast and the Algarve’s stunning beaches, for an easy and relaxing family day out. If your children are more the adventurous type, there’s also a range of watersports and even surfing lessons for them to get involved in. They won’t be bored, that’s for sure!
Water babies will also love the nearby aquaparks, guaranteed fun for the entire family. There’s Aqualand, Aquashow, Slide & Splash, and more - take your pick! There are also attractions that allow your little ones to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience with their favourite aquatic creatures. Head to the likes of Zoomarine or Krazy World Zoo to come up close and personal with these impressive animals.
For a unique day out that is child-friendly, we recommend Fonte Benemola. A walking trail that passes through protected woodland, the route contains numerous boards explaining the geographical uniqueness of the area and wildlife to watch out for. Bring a picnic to make the most of the day.
Casa Luum is also close by to Loule, home to colourful markets and ideal for shopping, thanks to the addition of the large mall, Mar Shopping. As well as stores and restaurants, the mall also has a children’s playground and cinema, making it a great spot if you do want to escape the sun and heat for a day. The best part? It’s only ten minutes away by car.

Most stunning house ever stayed
Casa Luum is without doubt the most stunning house we have holidayed in to date. It is at one with its beautiful setting and surrounding countryside; a credit to owner Kristoff and his architect. Simply and elegantly furnished with the same attention to detail that we had already experienced in its sister property and neighbour, Casa Agostos, several years back. Remote and deliciously secluded yet still only a short drive from magnificent beaches, the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve (a must!), with plentiful spots to visit and restaurants to enjoy. The perfect first-day welcome in the capable hands of Fred plus we were luck enough to meet our hosts. Kristoff, it was a pleasure and your passion for the Casa Luum project is infectious. We’re on board!

Loved the peace and quite
Casa Luum is so beautiful and peaceful we didn’t want to go anywhere else while staying there (we did, but the best moments were at home). The kids loved the pool and how the house had so many little corners to explore, and we loved the peace and quiet (and of course the amazing exterior and interior design). Every room was so beautiful it was an experience in itself – the kitchen, the living room, the outdoor shower, the rooftop. Looking forward to coming back really soon. Lovely experience and the nicest people. Thank you for the wine and coffee, as well as all the amazing restaurant tips.

Perfect location and beautiful house
Beautiful house, we spent 10 days there in February/March this year. We were able to already enjoy terraces and outside spaces during the day, as it was sunny on most days, the architecture of the house is stunning in its simplicity, bringing in the light like works of art. The beds are comfortable (unfortunately all just queen size) and each bedroom has a different feel to it. The kitchen is pretty well equipped, closeness to beaches and shopping makes this location perfect, if you don't want to be in the middle of the tourist buzz. We had a wonderful time

Cannot praise it highly enough
I doubted whether I should place a comment on “Casa Luum” – not to let out the secret but I decided differently as my heart speaks out loud – still under the spell of our unforgettable stay. Do not know where to start the praise – is it the location? (isolated, impossible to find by GPS) or the moonlit sky? (no artificial light pollution all around except the lit trees in the meadow and the lit pool) the design furniture? (Hay, Artemide, Eames chairs, Grashopper Lamp /Greta Grossman, Acapulco Chairs to name but a few) so many places to daydream and relax – a daily fight over the hammock – design kitchen to die for (as was the food we prepared) roaming the markets each morning – returning home with our treasures, aperitif on the roof terrace, – squid, fish, lamb… all that is on offer in Cockaigne=Portugal. 1/2 hour drive to stunning beaches (deserted in July !!!) Nele the house manager does any effort to please the guests – the music system can be connected to your I-Phone I-pad or whatever tablet and we danced away the night to our own tunes. Cannot praise it highly enough Eye Candy wherever you address your eyes to Big.

The most beautiful house we ever stayed in
Without any doubt, the most beautiful house we ever stayed in: the architecture and decoration of the house are (close to) perfect, the pool is a gem (with the beautiful stairway), the roof terrace a dream (watching the starred roof above your head from there is a delight) and the outdoor shower a treat. Communication with owner Kristoff was swift and easy and some first teething problems (we were one of the first guest staying in the house) were dealt with very professionally. And his tips for restaurants, shops and outings were all great. The only thing that we missed, was a bit of shadow above the outside table, at the hottest moment of the day. Of course this all comes at a price, but it's really worth it: we had an unforgettable stay. We would surely want to come back once.
