Taking luxury to another level, enter a world of Arabian Nights when you vacation in the unique Riad Verde, in the historic town of Silves, near to Portugal’s Algarve Atlantic Ocean. This architect-designed townhouse has recently been meticulously renovated, absorbing the details of the Moorish history of Portugal, using traditional elements, handmade artefacts, and colourful tiles, and furnished with vintage pieces.
Modern technology was not forgotten in the restoration; air conditioning and Wi-Fi are included, Marshall speakers and Bluetooth provide entertainment, and underfloor heating and hammam-style bathrooms are throughout. The property is hidden behind a brilliant topaz blue door, which opens to reveal a classic courtyard with an iridescent blue and green plunge pool. The road is built over two storeys, with four exquisitely appointed bedrooms, which can comfortably accommodate up to eight guests, ideal for a family holiday or a group of friends’ special getaway.
The clever configuration of the riad effectively creates mini-suites. The ground floor has a tiled hallway leading to a living space with a seating area and access to the patio; a small kitchen has a hob, mini-fridge, dishwasher and a built-in dining table on which to serve supper. A bedroom has a double bed, and the bathroom has a hammam-style double shower. The upper floor has a larger living space with a seating area, cable television, and a surround sound system. The seriously smart kitchen is fully equipped with the latest Siemens appliances and those holiday must-haves, a Nespresso coffee maker and a wine cellar. There is a bedroom with a double bed and a superb spa bathroom with a hammam-style bath, a rain shower, and a waterfall faucet.
Cross the patio of the upper floor to a bedroom with a double bed, an ensuite shower room, and access to the pool terrace. Climb the flush-to-the-wall ladder to the mezzanine floor, where there is a room with two single beds, perfect for teenagers.
The exterior living space is all contained within the walls of the property, with a total of four sublime terraces. There is a sun deck with sun loungers, parasols, and an outdoor shower. A courtyard has a plunge pool for cooling down dips, with an adjacent shaded chill-out room with big cushions for a relaxing snooze. A covered terrace is home to a stunning ten-seater dining set, where you can enjoy feasting alfresco with dishes freshly prepared in the summer kitchen and grilled on the gas barbecue.
What you should know…
- Riad Verde can be rented in different configurations; a group of 6 does not include part of the upper floor, and a group of 8 has full use of the property.
- The gorgeous pool is 4m x 2.5m, perfect for a cooling afternoon plunge and a midnight dip but not long enough for lengths.
- The owners advise that the villa isn’t recommended for young children or those with mobility issues due to the steep ladder stairs and pool access.
- Arrival and departure day is normally Friday, but this is negotiable.

Location
About the surrounding area of Riad VerdeRiad Verde can be found in a quiet cobbled street in the centre of the inland town of Silves, a historic area of the Algarve region of Portugal near the Atlantic coast. Your holiday home is sixty-five kilometres from the nearest international airport in Faro. Silves is famous for its rich Moorish and medieval influences, which can be seen in the castle and cathedral, the treasures of which are displayed in the Archeological Museum. In the town, you will find stores and markets stocked with provisions for your stay and lots of welcoming cafes, bars, and restaurants.
The nearest beach is approximately a twenty-minute drive away; choose from Praia da Marinha, de Benagil, or the fabulous da Rocha, set in stunning scenery with soft sand and crystal clear waters for swimming and snorkelling. Try your hand at a selection of water sports, including surfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. For those who prefer being on the water, all aboard for a boat tour and dolphin spotting along the coast whilst you explore the hidden bays and secret coves.
The area is renowned for its world-class golf courses and links; start small with a game of mini golf, and work your way up to the international level.
In the evening, go into the happening resort of Portimão, wine and dine by the seashore, and dance until dawn in the lively bars and clubs.

THE REGION
Sagres sits at the southwestern tip of the beautiful Algarve coast, where it calls out to holidaymakers looking to get a little bit closer to nature. The town and its surroundings are perfectly tranquil, making this destination ideal for those travelling with children who best enjoy beach and outdoor fun.
The town is inviting and personable, but it’s certainly not the liveliest spot on the coast. Sagres mostly has its seaside location to thank for being a hub among avid surfers, who bring life to an otherwise sleepy village.
Barely a stone’s throw from its centre, you’ll come across plenty of lovely and sheltered beaches, where you can relax in the sun and soak in the stillness. Since the area is much less crowded than central Algarve, you couldn’t find a better place for that laid-back getaway you’ve been longing for.

Best Suited For: All AgesThere’s lots for you and your family to do and see when you stay at Riad Verdes in Silves, Portugal. Starting with the town of Silves and the historic castle, cathedral, and Archeological Museum, which are well worth a visit.
Head to the family-friendly beaches of Praia da Marinha and Praia de Benagil, with clean sands and shallow waters for your younger kids, and watersports, including paddleboarding and kayaking for your older ones. All aboard for a family day at sea, spot the dolphins, and explore the mysterious Benagil Cave.
Spend the day at Zoomarine with live shows, animal interaction, and water attractions. Go to Krazy World Zoo near Algoz, see the animals and have a round of mini golf. Make waves at Slide & Splash in Lagoa, a water park with pools and activities for children of all ages.
Visit pretty Portimão, where there is the beautiful beach of Praia da Rocha, an interactive museum housed in a former sardine factory showcasing the history and culture of the area, souvenir shops and local markets, and family-friendly restaurants where you can enjoy a meal by the sea shore. See the nearby charming village of Ferragudo, with its narrow streets and picturesque square that’s perfect for eating ice cream and natas.
