THE REGION

A coastal town just 20 miles west of Lisbon, Cascais was once a small fishing village, but its idyllic scenery attracted the attention of artists, writers and expelled European nobility in the 20th century. Today, it still attracts high society, but all society comes into force to enjoy the gorgeous beaches and adventure options like sailing and surfing.

Cascais also sits just west of Lisbon and right on the edge of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, meaning there are ample opportunities for exciting day trips. When you’re not off an excursion up the coast, you’ll find Cascais has plenty of its own allures. Take your pick of gorgeous sandy coves, wander around culture-packed art centres, book a surfing lesson or sit down to dine on some of the best food in the region.

ABOUT THE LISBON COAST

The Lisbon Coast is a sensational stretch of golden beaches, wave-lashed cliffs and vibrant seaside towns – but there's more to the Atlantic coastline than that. Delve beneath the surface to discover hidden coves, family-owned seafood restaurants and pristine natural parks.

The coast around Lisbon provides an easy, breezy escape from the capital, whose proximity has made it the stomping ground of kings for the last 1,000 years. In summer, Lisboistas stream into elegant Comporta and Cascais to escape the heat of the city; year-round, surfers hang loose on the coast, waiting for the rollers to crash down on the sand.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Lisbon Coast, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Alcabideche also offers an array of family-friendly attractions, making it a great to visit if you wish to create memories that will last a lifetime. Anima Park is an extremely prized landmark that is based around 20 minutes away from Cascais Relax. Packed full of climbing frames, bustling structures, and jungle motifs, this is an ideal place for children to roam free. Each member of staff is expertly trained to care for children as they play, so the grown-ups are free to indulge in a cup of coffee in the cosy bar area found upstairs. Thus, this is a fantastic place for the adults to unwind as the children let their imaginations run wild.

The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park is just one of 13 National Parks found throughout Portugal and boasts a tremendous array of mountain views and an immense coastline. During their time here, guests are encouraged to examine each piece of fauna and horticulture to help them reconnect with the untouched beauty of nature. Throughout this journey, you will come across the looming Castle of the Moors, a significant cultural attraction that works to express how the Moorish population used this building as a safe haven against the Christian Reconquest. Thus, guests now have the prime opportunity to bask in a plethora of awe-inspiring sights as they deepen their understanding of this legacy-defining region. The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park can be found just over 5 minutes away from the villa.

The Fort of Guincho, sometimes referred to as the Fort of Velas, is an archaic landmark that was awarded Property of Public Interest Status back in 1977. Despite its far-reaching legacy, this fort now remains in ruins and in a permanent state of decay. However, many guests seek these defects as part of its charm, producing a deeply picturesque sight as the ferocious waves collide with the worn-down walls of the forgotten fort. Though it holds a lot of benefits, this landmark is still considered to be a hidden gem amongst the locals. As such, it is a great attraction to visit if you are looking to escape the crowds and enjoy some quality time together as a family. The Fort of Guincho is located just over 10 minutes away from Cascais Relax.
