Location
About the surrounding area of Villa DunaChoosing this amazing villa situated in the heart of Quinta da Marinha golf club suggests golf is a major part of your holiday, this fabulous course designed by the legendry Robert Trent Jones offers fantastic views over the Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra mountains. His trademark elevated greens and tees, many bunkers and water hazards suit the natural landscape perfectly. The 19th hole is the perfect way to finish off your round, the clubhouse overlooking the big lakes of the final hole. The superb Oitavos Dunes course is also a must, a stunning links course built into the natural surroundings with the utmost sensitivity is ranked amongst the very best in the world. The choice of courses in this region is such that you could play a different course every day of your stay.
On a day off from golf or for non golfing partners the magnificent sports centre offers an amazing swimming pool, tennis court or you could try Padel (it’s a bit like tennis) which is very popular here.
The Cascais area is a wonderful place to choose for a much needed break, you have the sand dunes and white sands of the surfers paradise that is Guincho Beach, perhaps the beach at Cresmina below the 17th century fortress would be more suitable for families as the waves aren’t quite so strong. The charming fairy tale village of Sintra with its extravagant palaces and ancient castles perched high on the hills within the Sintra-Cascais National Park. The Cascais of today is a fusion of its noble past and the success of its tourist and golfing attractions. Once upon a time it was small fishing town, then it became the holiday destination for the royal family and subsequently the rich and famous. It still retains a lot of its old fishing village charms despite its 15th century fort having been converted into a hotel. Enjoy the small, cobbled streets, beautiful buildings with pastel coloured walls and some of the country’s famous azuljos.
The beaches around Cascais are beautiful and varied, like golf courses you could visit a different one each day. A walk or cycle along the promenade from Cascais to Estoril, is amazing, the beach here doesn’t catch the wind quite so much so is perfect for a sunbathing swimming day and the options to stop at a café are many. Two of the biggest attractions of Estoril after the beach, is the motor racing track which sadly is no longer part of the F1 circuit but still hosts events and the amazing sea front Casino, amazing to look at even if you don’t want to play at the tables. Eating out here in Cascais is delightful, the many cafes and restaurants catering for all tastes and appetites buzz in the evenings as visitors and locals alike relax at the end of the day.

THE REGION
A coastal town just 20 miles west of Lisbon, Cascais was once a small fishing village, but its idyllic scenery attracted the attention of artists, writers and expelled European nobility in the 20th century. Today, it still attracts high society, but all society comes into force to enjoy the gorgeous beaches and adventure options like sailing and surfing.
Cascais also sits just west of Lisbon and right on the edge of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, meaning there are ample opportunities for exciting day trips. When you’re not off an excursion up the coast, you’ll find Cascais has plenty of its own allures. Take your pick of gorgeous sandy coves, wander around culture-packed art centres, book a surfing lesson or sit down to dine on some of the best food in the region.
ABOUT THE LISBON COAST
The Lisbon Coast is a sensational stretch of golden beaches, wave-lashed cliffs and vibrant seaside towns – but there's more to the Atlantic coastline than that. Delve beneath the surface to discover hidden coves, family-owned seafood restaurants and pristine natural parks.
The coast around Lisbon provides an easy, breezy escape from the capital, whose proximity has made it the stomping ground of kings for the last 1,000 years. In summer, Lisboistas stream into elegant Comporta and Cascais to escape the heat of the city; year-round, surfers hang loose on the coast, waiting for the rollers to crash down on the sand.
But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Lisbon Coast, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesAt first glance this might not be where you would choose for a family holiday, however, be assured the villa and its spectacular location is perfect whether it be a beach holiday you are after, or an action packed one. Not only will the swimming pool will be a great attraction, morning noon and night, the trees and bamboos are perfect for chasing around to burn off their energy
The Cascais beaches are amazing for families, some are sheltered and others boast incredible surf. There are several surf schools nearby, they offer lessons for all abilities and have SUP’s and body boards if surfing isn’t for them.
There are many options for holiday activities offering a great family day out, there are several first class riding schools nearby offering hacks through forest trails or along the sand dunes to the beach, all abilities are well catered for, leave the kids with ponies and head off for that gallop along a sandy beach you have always dreamed of.
If there was one museum in Cascais to take the children to I would recommend Musea do Mar it is centred around the traditions of the fishing community of the town with subjects such as fossils, boats and fishing stories, with life size models of whales and sharks it is sure to keep them entertained for a couple of hours and maybe spark interest or rekindle a lapsed one.
A day out to the spectacular Sintra is an essential, home to fairy-tale palaces and age-old castles, it's a fascinating place to explore. You really want to get there as early in the day as possible, the visit will involve a lot of on-foot exploring, best to do as much as possible in the cooler hours, also it can become very busy later in the day, a top tip - buying a skip the queue pass is a very good idea.
Like the beaches and the golf courses the Cascais are offers the opportunity to do something different every day of a holiday here with children.
