Overview
If you are looking for a colourful, characterful base from which to discover Alfama's equally vibrant district, this charmingly bohemian yet smart and contemporary apartment in one of Lisbon’s oldest districts could be just the right option for you.
Step into its bright and inviting spaces, and you will first be greeted by its warm and homely living spaces tiled with traditional terracotta and which include a seating area filled with modern art and offering access to the balcony that looks out over the pastel-hued city, as well as a sleek dining area with statement light features and seating for up to four guests.
Moving through the eclectic spaces of The View Apartment; spaces which effortlessly blend old with new; modern art with original features, you will then come to a compact yet well-equipped kitchen that’s great for preparing a small meal or a quick breakfast to fuel you up for the day of exploration ahead.
We then come to the carefully finished and rest-promoting bedroom, which offers access to the balcony via gorgeous shuttered French doors. The décor helps create a space that feels light and bright and, in keeping with the rest of the apartment, offers a distinctive blend of the traditional with the contemporary that somehow manages to feel timeless. We especially love the high ceilings, which contribute to this home’s laid-back yet sumptuous sense of style.
However, the real highlight of this beautiful home must be the lovely balcony. Not only does it provide the perfect place to sit and enjoy that first cup of coffee in the morning or an evening cocktail, but it allows you to feel at one with this exciting, effervescent, and ultimately inimitable city as life in Lisbon bustles and bubbles away down below the balcony.
What you should know…
- In the interest of safety, any little ones must be supervised at all times when on the balcony
- The kitchen of this home is quite compact, so better suited to making small meals for the maximum occupancy of the apartment (four guests) rather than big banquets

Location
About the surrounding area of The View ApartmentThis eclectic and creatively finished home enjoys a great location in the heart of one of Lisbon’s most historic districts and is close to some of its many sites of historical importance. The famous St. George Castle is within walking distance while, all around the home, you will find yourself immediately immersed in the rich, vibrant history of the city.
Step outside the door and be greeted by a thoroughly cosmopolitan feeling of the hustle and bustle, which juxtaposes with the opulent classical architecture of the buildings which line the iconic cobblestone streets. All along these charismatic streets, you will find lively cafés where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee with a pastel de nata as you watch the world go by, a range of restaurants serving everything from traditional regional dishes to high-end haute cuisine, and loads of shopping options that include small artisanal stores selling local products and crafts.
As the afternoon rolls into the evening, the voluptuous sounds of authentic Fado music begin to waft upon the air as some of the city’s oldest Fado establishments are found within the neighbourhood of Alfama.
We love nothing more than meandering through the atmospheric cobbled streets of this multifaceted city, taking in the various sights, sounds, and smells that create its distinctive ambience. Should you get tired of walking, however, hop aboard one of the many iconic and readily accessible trams that bustle busily up and down hilly laneways and offer easy access to many of the main sites and attractions. From the beautiful Belém Tower, a one-time prison that now constitutes one of the city’s most popular tourist spots, to the sprawling Rossio Square, close to the city’s main shopping area and characterised by its slightly psychedelic tiles, there are spectacular sights to take in almost everywhere you look.
Known as the ‘City of Seven Hills’, there are few places that offer a wider variety of stunning vistas as lovely Lisbon. Be it gazing out over the wide waters of the Tagus River or snapping panoramic pictures of the pastel-hued buildings, the myriad ‘miradouros’ (or simply ‘viewpoints’ to the uninitiated) offer a feast for eyes and plenty of camera-roll fodder. Many of the miradouros also house shops, cafes, and bars from where you can watch the city live and breathe below whilst sipping a sundowner.
As one of the oldest cities in the world and the second-oldest European capital, Lisbon is, of course, bursting at the seams with diverse historical sites and a range of cultural monuments. Among our favourites are the Castelo dos Mouros and the Castelo de São Jorge, while the Palácio dos Marqueses de Fronteira, as well as the various monasteries, are not to be missed either as they provide a fascinating glimpse back in time into the country’s multi-layered past. Don’t be fooled by its classical architecture and lengthy history; however, this is a city very much in step with the 21st century.
