Location
About the surrounding area of Moradia CabeleirasMoradia Cabeleiras is located in the quaint village of Prazeres on the island of Madeira. Considered one of the most picturesque on the island, Prazeres is a place of beauty, sitting on a natural terrace that overlooks the glittering ocean. If you’re searching for a holiday destination that offers peace and tranquillity, Moradia Cabeleiras is where it’s at. The villa is just a two-minute walk from the nearest supermarket and several restaurants and a very short drive from the nearest beach, so all the essential amenities are conveniently close at hand.
Prazeres is home to the small and pretty ‘Our Lady of Prazeres’ chapel, as well as a delightful little parish-run farm, herb garden and tea house, so a quiet afternoon of exploring this charming little village is definitely time well-spent. The island is famous for its hiking trails and several of the best begin Prazeres - making it the perfect location for those who want to spend their holiday enjoying the great outdoors. For those who want to spend some time at the beach during their stay, you’ll find the closest at nearby Calheta, a seaside town that is known as one of Madeira’s most idyllic and historic areas. Calheta is famous for its banana and sugar cane plantations and its vineyards, as well as for having one of the only golden sandy beaches on the island - making it a go-to place for tourists. The area features a modern marina, as well as being popular with those who love outdoor pursuits, including hiking, biking, surfing, kayaking, windsurfing, scuba diving and paragliding. It’s also one of the most fantastic spots on the island for whale and dolphin-spotting, and you’ll find plenty of places offering whale-watching tours and boat trips along the marina.
Once you’ve had your fill of sun and sea and sand, we recommend heading to one of the town’s unique bars or cafes, which include Pukiki Bar, the very instagrammable Sem Idade Cafe - famous for its rooftop pool, and Maktub Pub, which features a relaxed atmosphere and well-priced and delicious cocktails.

THE REGION
Calheta, meaning ‘Small Cove’, is where many tourists flock to in order to indulge in beautiful man-made beaches and striking scenery.
This part of Madeira is formed of several municipalities, each with something unique and special to offer. Calheta Village is an ideal place to start especially if you enjoy a stiff drink! An old sugar cane factory still produces one of the world’s most respected white rums – Aguardente…perhaps you want to leave this part of your holiday till late in the evening!
Jardim do Mar is where you will find many of the locals on dawn patrol, taking to the waves and surfing. The waters can both be heavy and flat, making them ideal for abilities of surfer. Akaw!
For lovers of seafood, you should look no further than Paul do Mar. This is a village where most of the fisherman work out of, so you know you’ll be able to find the catch of the day here.
For those who have travelled to Madeira for its inland beauty, then look no further than Arco da Calheta and Prazeres. Within these locations you won’t only be able find some stunning hiking trails, but you’re also likely to stumble across some traditionally styled Parishes and unforgettable views.
ABOUT MADEIRA
The island of Madeira can be found south west of mainland Portugal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the island’s location, its is considered to have a Mediterranean climate that serves locals and visitors all year round – making it an ideal escape from reality at any point in the year.
What we love Madeira for is its seemingly ongoing festivals! Madeirans have found an excuse to celebrate most things; including film, their natural surroundings and key patron saints. This means that planning a visit during these days and even weeks of commemoration is well worth it (scroll down to see some key dates).
Madeira is divided into several municipals, each with a special offering to those who visit this island. Our favourite two communities are Funchal and Calheta and these are where you will find most of our beautiful villas.
Madeira’s landscape extends much more than a striking coastline. Make sure you pack some hiking boots and venture inland during your stay. With mountainous trails along Vereda do Arieiro, or more countryside appropriate paths like Levada do Risco and waterfall chasing treks like Levada do Caldeirao Verde – this archipelago has everything a keen outdoors person requires.
For those who enjoy either playing or watching sports, you’ll be happy to know Madeira offers so much selection. Madeira is also home to three notable football clubs, so if you’re visiting during the football season and want to see a good quality of football, you have every chance to. Porto Santo Golfe is the island’s renowned golf course. With an 18-hole course (Par 72) overlooking a Galapagos-like backdrop, golf enthusiasts will certainly want a ‘slice’ of the action! Surfers can access some great beaches like Jardim do Mar, Ponta Pequena, Paul do Mar, and Fajã da Ovelha in order to find some swell. Or, if you’re simply looking to recline on a sun lounger and soak up some rays, whilst listening to crystal clear waves break as they hit the shores, you will find plenty of man-made beaches & Lidos created for your leisure!
With a superb climate, close proximity to the coastline, wonderful cuisine, charming locals and astonishing scenery – this is a fabulous holiday choice for families & friends.
But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Madeira, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesFor families who want to spend a relaxing and tranquil stay on the island of Madeira, Moradia Cebeleiras is a great choice of accommodation, offering breathtaking views, good local amenities and a calm and peaceful environment. The kids are sure to enjoy being able to look out over the island and the ocean, and active kids will thrive in the natural surroundings where hiking, cycling and nature walks are the order of the day.
The villa doesn't have a pool, but the well-maintained lawn area offers a great space for kids to play safely, and the alfresco dining area can be covered to provide welcome shade, making eating all together as a family comfortable for guests of all ages. Moradia Cabeleiras has two double bedrooms, and older kids might enjoy sharing a 'big bed' as part of their holiday adventure - although, for larger families, or those with younger children, the room configuration might not be ideal. A cot and highchair can be provided on request for the very little ones, so families with a child under the age of two will be able to travel a little lighter.
Moradia Cabeleiras is nestled in the beautiful village of Prazeres, which offers a few attractions, including a small farm. Run by the local church, the farm focuses on the education, awareness and appreciation of the rural environment and allows guests to get up close and personal with some interesting animals, as well as learn about the preservation of some of the plant species on the island. There are a series of activities run here throughout the year, including the Animal Blessing Festival in January, the Rooster Auction Festival in June, the Wheat Threshing Festival in July and the Cider Festival in September.
If you're after something a little more active to enjoy with the kids, we recommend heading to nearby Calheta, which is just a short drive away from the villa. Here you'll find courses in scuba diving and snorkelling available, as well as whale-watching tours, so for the chance to do something unique with the children during your holiday, it's well worth heading to the marina and seeing what activities are available.
Younger children will enjoy spending time at Calheta's famous playground situated right on the beach and featuring a pirate ship climbing frame and swings and bouncers for younger children before heading off for a day playing on the golden sands. The beach at Calheta is one of few on the island that isn't a pebble, and this large, beautiful, man-made beach can get fairly crowded in the summer months, largely down to its soft sands and easy accessibility. The kids will enjoy the family-friendly vibe here and the fact that they can paddle and swim in safety thanks to the barrier that creates an enclosed swimming area and prevents the larger waves from spoiling the fun! There are some great amenities available, including ample parking, parasol hire, grocery stores and a fantastic beachside cafe that serves fruit platters and great coffee at very reasonable prices. The cafe plays music during the day and even has WiFi that reaches down to the beach, so be sure to get the password when you're in there buying refreshments!

Over the moon!
Following an early flight the owner of the villa was kind enough to let us into the villa hours earlier than expected. We were so relieved having been awake for two days. The villa is immaculate and everything has been thought of. We had a moment when we realised that we hadn't brought adaptor plugs, but here they were, along with everything else the owner had kindly prepared. 5 minute walk from shop, cafe and restaurant our immediate needs are catered for and we have been given details of who to contact for trips around the island. So happy to be back in Madeira!

Luxury accommodation
Luxury accommodation for people who like peace. The equipment is all new and beautiful. In the kitchen you will find everything you need. Great sitting in the garden by the fireplace. Every day we enjoyed fresh fish on the grill and ocean views. After the hike, we appreciated the jacuzzi, which was also great for colder evenings. Our holiday was great and we will be happy to return here.

Beautiful, modern country house with garden and sea view
Spacious and modern furnished country house, very clean, well equipped and with a beautiful view of the sea from all rooms. There is plenty of space in the garden and a barbecue area. The internet is fast and the kitchen is very well equipped. We were completely satisfied.
