Location
About the surrounding area of Villa LogarinhoThe small and beautiful agricultural village of Prazeres is one of the most picturesque locations on the island, a place of beauty situated on a natural terrace that overlooks the glittering Atlantic. Despite its remote-looking rural setting, there is a small supermarket and several restaurants nearby, and it’s just a short drive to the nearest beach.
Prazeres is home to the small and pretty ‘Our Lady of Prazeres’ chapel, as well as a delightful little parish-run project farm, herb garden and tea house, so a quiet afternoon of exploring this charming little village is definitely time well-spent. You’ll find a variety of local agricultural produce on offer here, as well as some quaint places to enjoy a coffee or a slice of cake, and across from the farm, there is a small exhibition of arts and crafts that is well worth visiting.
The island of Madeira is famous for its hiking trails, and several of the best begin right here in Prazeres - making it the perfect location for those who want to spend their holiday enjoying the great outdoors. For those who want to spend some time at the beach during their stay, you’ll find the closest at nearby Calheta, a seaside town that is known as one of Madeira’s most idyllic and historic areas. Calheta is famous for its banana and sugar cane plantations and its vineyards, as well as for having one of the only golden sandy beaches on the island - making it a go-to place for tourists. The area features a modern marina and is popular with visitors who love outdoor pursuits, including surfing, kayaking, windsurfing, scuba diving and paragliding. It’s also one of the most fantastic spots on the island for whale and dolphin-spotting, and you’ll find plenty of places offering whale-watching tours and boat trips along the marina.
While in Calheta, why not pay a visit to the Mudas Museum - a must-see destination for lovers of contemporary art. Here you’ll find a collection of contemporary Portuguese art dating from the 1960s to the present, although it’s worth knowing before you make the trip that the museum is only open Tuesday to Sunday. Another small yet interesting museum that is well worth a visit when you visit Calheta is the Sugar Cane Mill and museum - especially as entry is free! The museum houses machinery that was once used to process sugar cane, as well as a working mill which is still used to produce sugar cane honey today.

THE REGION
Calheta, meaning ‘Small Cove’, is where many tourists flock to in order to indulge in beautiful man-made beaches and striking scenery.
This part of Madeira is formed of several municipalities, each with something unique and special to offer. Calheta Village is an ideal place to start especially if you enjoy a stiff drink! An old sugar cane factory still produces one of the world’s most respected white rums – Aguardente…perhaps you want to leave this part of your holiday till late in the evening!

For lovers of seafood, you should look no further than Paul do Mar. This is a village where most of the fisherman work out of, so you know you’ll be able to find the catch of the day here.
For those who have travelled to Madeira for its inland beauty, then look no further than Arco da Calheta and Prazeres. Within these locations you won’t only be able find some stunning hiking trails, but you’re also likely to stumble across some traditionally styled Parishes and unforgettable views.
ABOUT MADEIRA
The island of Madeira can be found south west of mainland Portugal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the island’s location, its is considered to have a Mediterranean climate that serves locals and visitors all year round – making it an ideal escape from reality at any point in the year.
What we love Madeira for is its seemingly ongoing festivals! Madeirans have found an excuse to celebrate most things; including film, their natural surroundings and key patron saints. This means that planning a visit during these days and even weeks of commemoration is well worth it (scroll down to see some key dates).
Madeira is divided into several municipals, each with a special offering to those who visit this island. Our favourite two communities are Funchal and Calheta and these are where you will find most of our beautiful villas.
Madeira’s landscape extends much more than a striking coastline. Make sure you pack some hiking boots and venture inland during your stay. With mountainous trails along Vereda do Arieiro, or more countryside appropriate paths like Levada do Risco and waterfall chasing treks like Levada do Caldeirao Verde – this archipelago has everything a keen outdoors person requires.
For those who enjoy either playing or watching sports, you’ll be happy to know Madeira offers so much selection. Madeira is also home to three notable football clubs, so if you’re visiting during the football season and want to see a good quality of football, you have every chance to. Porto Santo Golfe is the island’s renowned golf course. With an 18-hole course (Par 72) overlooking a Galapagos-like backdrop, golf enthusiasts will certainly want a ‘slice’ of the action! Surfers can access some great beaches like Jardim do Mar, Ponta Pequena, Paul do Mar, and Fajã da Ovelha in order to find some swell. Or, if you’re simply looking to recline on a sun lounger and soak up some rays, whilst listening to crystal clear waves break as they hit the shores, you will find plenty of man-made beaches & Lidos created for your leisure!
With a superb climate, close proximity to the coastline, wonderful cuisine, charming locals and astonishing scenery – this is a fabulous holiday choice for families & friends.
But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Madeira, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe nearby village of Prazeres is a great starting point for a lot of the region’s famous hiking trails, so kids who enjoy being outdoors are sure to love indulging in nature walks, rambling and cycling with the whole family. The surrounding area is beautiful, and young photographers and artists will find plenty to inspire their talents, so make sure they bring their camera or paints and have a go at capturing some of the incredible landscapes in their own style. Many families come here to spend their time walking through the pretty streets with the kids, visiting the little chapel or stopping at one of the local restaurants or eateries for some light refreshments - it really is a great place to relax together and enjoy each other’s company - and of course, the local farm is sure to appeal to any little animal lovers in your midst!
If the children still have the energy to burn, Oliver suggests heading to the larger seaside town of Calheta, where you’ll find a range of watersports and activities to enjoy, as well as courses in scuba diving and snorkelling available. Whale-watching tours are popular here, so for the chance to do something unique with the children during your holiday, it’s well worth heading to the marina and seeing what boat trips are available.
Younger children will enjoy spending time at Calheta’s famous playground situated right on the beach and featuring a pirate ship climbing frame and swings and bouncers for younger children before heading off for a day playing on the golden sands. The beach at Calheta is one of few on the island that isn’t a pebble, and this large, beautiful, man-made beach can get fairly crowded in the summer months, largely down to its soft sands and easy accessibility. The kids will enjoy the family-friendly vibe here and the fact that they can paddle and swim in safety thanks to the barrier that creates an enclosed swimming area and prevents the larger waves from spoiling the fun! There are some great amenities available, including ample parking, parasol hire, grocery stores and a fantastic beachside cafe that serves fruit platters and great coffee at very reasonable prices. The cafe plays music during the day and even has WiFi that reaches down to the beach, so be sure to get the password when you’re in there buying refreshments!

Tranquility with a beautiful ocean view
The property exudes a rustic charm with ample compartmentalised layout with large BBQ area, ample kitchen and a welcome log burning for the cooler winter evenings. There is a spacious balcony and landscaped side garden with which to catch the sun and relax with the beautiful ocean view, whilst watching hawks and buzzards patrol the skies above. An excellent location and base with which to explore the western side of the island and escape the overt tourism of Funchal. The cliff scenery is stunning and there is an excellent levada walk at Ponto do Pargo just a few kilometres away. The nearest 'large' supermarket is the Continente at Ribeira Brava so it's worth stocking up on the way to the property. This can be topped up on a brilliant day out at Porto Minez, via R. Brava and Sao Vicente. The coast line from here to Porto Minez is breath taking with large Atlantic breakers crashing down. Just out of P. Minez at Lamaceiros there is another stunning levada walk (12km) taking you through two tunnels (torch required). A journey along the coast via Porto do Pargo shortens the route back. We would definitely consider booking this property again.
