The huge open-plan living/dining space can be found on the ground floor. There are two seating areas here, with one featuring a flat screen television and comfortable sofas that are ideally positioned for family movie nights. When meals are ready to be served, move over to the classic wood dining table. Several sets of French doors open onto the main terrace and garden. The modern kitchen is fully-fitted and comes with every convenience you could need during your stay. There’s also two good sized tables with chairs positioned in front of doors that lead out to an outdoor dining area with spectacular views, which can seat up to twelve guests. A separate barbecue room has a bread oven, traditional barbecue, sink and hob for cooking up delicious meals to be enjoyed al fresco.

One of the five bedrooms can also be found on this floor, making it ideal for those with mobility issues. It features a king-size bed, flat screen television and access to the outside space via French doors.

The remaining four bedrooms are located on the first floor. Each bedroom features a king-size bed and wonderful sea views, with two also enjoying balcony access. Three of the bedrooms have their own ensuite bathroom. There’s also a well-appointed family bathroom for the use of all guests.

Taking up the entire lower-ground floor is a fantastic leisure/entertainment area. On offer is a pool table, a table tennis table, table football, and a range of table games. On a mezzanine overlooking the pool is a range of fitness equipment, including a treadmill and exercise bike.

Villa Ariedam enjoys a convenient location within a residential area that offers a range of amenities. Cafés and a restaurant are within a 15 to 20-minute walk, with Funchal city centre and its huge choice of bars, restaurants and shops all within walking distance.

Lovely places to spend a few hours are the numerous gardens in the immediate area. Madeira Botanical Garden and Monte Palace Tropical Garden are both just over a five-minute drive from the villa. Stroll around these lush gardens to see a range of plants, flowers, herbs and trees that can be found across the island. You can also reach these gardens via cable car, which is an experience in itself. Rise high above Funchal and take in spectacular views over the city and sea. If you’re lucky you’ll also spot some of the animals that call the mountains home as you pass over them.

Drive into the heart of Funchal city for fun days out. One of the most popular things to do with the children is to hop on board the Santa Maria de Colombo. This boat is a replica of Christopher Colombus’ ship and leaves twice a day on trips along the coast. Along the way you have the chance to spot dolphins and whales and to jump into the sea to cool off on especially hot days.

There are no sandy beaches in the area, with the coast featuring volcanic, black sand stretches instead. Funchal has several Lido's, allowing you to enjoy the sea from pebble beaches and loungers to soak up the sun. Also, be sure to visit the city’s old town area, with so many beautiful historic buildings lining its narrow, cobbled streets.

THE REGION

Funchal is the largest city on the island of Madeira and is encapsulated by Pico Ruivo and its neighbouring mountains, which look as if they have been seamlessly carved into the skyline by a Lusitanian God.

There is no better spot to start your holiday than in the Old Town, which illustrates its personality though street art, architecture and busy local businesses. There are many fine eateries, botanical gardens, a cathedral and impressive museums. Perhaps hop on the Madeira Cable Car as one of your first activities, as this will give you a great idea of the islands size.

Many flock Funchal in order to enjoy the Atlantic Coastline. This is home to its prominent harbour, where hundreds of boats and yachts, some of which enable visitors to embark on a magical sea voyage, can be found. Funchal really is a destination for lovers of the sea; as there are renowned surfing points, as well as being a great place to spot some whales.

Madeirans are also notorious for their elaborate festivals. If you’re travelling during the New Year, you will be treated to one of the world’s biggest Firework Festivals…a dazzling sight! During late February & early Mrach, you are able to witness Carnival and the streets of Funchal are lit with parades and festivities. If that’s not enough for you; the Atlantic Festival International Fireworks Competition, Wine Festival and Christmas are all noteworthy dates for anyone visiting Funchal.

There are some incredible villas on the island and we believe that we have done a great job finding them for you. Have a browse and let us know what you think.

ABOUT MADEIRA

The island of Madeira can be found south west of mainland Portugal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the island’s location, its is considered to have a Mediterranean climate that serves locals and visitors all year round – making it an ideal escape from reality at any point in the year.

What we love Madeira for is its seemingly ongoing festivals! Madeirans have found an excuse to celebrate most things; including film, their natural surroundings and key patron saints. This means that planning a visit during these days and even weeks of commemoration is well worth it (scroll down to see some key dates).

Madeira is divided into several municipals, each with a special offering to those who visit this island. Our favourite two communities are Funchal and Calheta and these are where you will find most of our beautiful villas.

Madeira’s landscape extends much more than a striking coastline. Make sure you pack some hiking boots and venture inland during your stay. With mountainous trails along Vereda do Arieiro, or more countryside appropriate paths like Levada do Risco and waterfall chasing treks like Levada do Caldeirao Verde – this archipelago has everything a keen outdoors person requires.

For those who enjoy either playing or watching sports, you’ll be happy to know Madeira offers so much selection. Madeira is also home to three notable football clubs, so if you’re visiting during the football season and want to see a good quality of football, you have every chance to. Porto Santo Golfe is the island’s renowned golf course. With an 18-hole course (Par 72) overlooking a Galapagos-like backdrop, golf enthusiasts will certainly want a ‘slice’ of the action! Surfers can access some great beaches like Jardim do Mar, Ponta Pequena, Paul do Mar, and Fajã da Ovelha in order to find some swell. Or, if you’re simply looking to recline on a sun lounger and soak up some rays, whilst listening to crystal clear waves break as they hit the shores, you will find plenty of man-made beaches & Lidos created for your leisure!

With a superb climate, close proximity to the coastline, wonderful cuisine, charming locals and astonishing scenery – this is a fabulous holiday choice for families & friends.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Madeira, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

  • Perfect location. Lovely views.

This is a marvelous house for visiting Madeira! So spacious & comfortable. And the beds...oh the beds! Scrumptious! The views of the city are great & the water was fantastic. It's was such a pleasure to wake up to that view daily. The house is wonderfully equipped from kitchen to bathrooms to game room. We were two families with several young adults, but no one got in anyone's way. The location was great to walk into the city or grab a cab home if it was late. I could not imagine a better place to stay for a visit to Madeira!

  • PICTURE PERFECT, FABULOUS STAY IN LUXERY VILLA IN FUNCHAL, MADEIRA

    on 24/09/2018

What a great stay we had in this very well equipped huge villa. It had everything we needed, the games room was a fun place after a day by the pool or at the beach, we enjoyed drinks on the balcony/outdoor area with amazing views of Funchal town, and the huge bedrooms with the most comfortable beds. It was a short walk down to the old town where there are fantastic seafood restaurants. Our arrival was seamless and Carolina was terrific with her run down of the Villa. I would highly recommend a stay here and encourage you to visit Funchal and Madeira, Portugal. Thanks.
