Villa do Monte sits within a small neighbourhood, commanding an elevated position overlooking the bay at Funchal, the capital city of Madeira. Surrounded by traditional village atmosphere and stunning hillside scenery, this contemporary holiday home is a place to feel welcomed and relaxed.
The inside of the villa is an oasis of calm, featuring crisp, white walls and soft furnishings that create a sense of peace. Complementing the neutral colour scheme and light wood floors are stylish design features, which is a theme that continues into the stunning outside space.
On the ground floor is an open-plan living-dining-kitchen space. It’s incredibly bright and airy, thanks to the numerous glass sliding doors that offer beautiful views and direct outdoor access. There’s beautiful furniture throughout the space, with quirky pieces adding personality and charm. Within the living area is a large sofa where everyone can get together in front of the television in the evenings, with a fireplace creating an even cosier atmosphere. Behind the living area is a dining table that seats up to eight people, with the sleek kitchen conveniently located right next to it. There’s also an office on this floor, which is perfect for enjoying some quiet time alone.
To the first floor are three of the four bedrooms. The Master bedroom has a double bed, large flat screen television, walk-in closet and an en-suite bathroom that features a walk-in shower with rejuvenating waterfall feature. There’s also a daybed perfectly positioned to make the most of the spectacular views over the bay. The other two bedrooms both have a double bed and en-suite bathroom each, as well as a balcony terrace.
On the lower-ground floor is the fourth bedroom with two double beds. There’s also a bathroom with walk-in shower.
The outside space is of a generous size and features several different areas. Directly accessed via the living-dining-kitchen area is a terrace with outdoor seating, as well as a table for enjoying alfresco dining with fantastic sea views. Further into the garden are areas of lawn dotted with exotic trees and plants. The star of the show, however, is the private swimming pool that lies right at the edge of the garden, giving unparalled views across the bay at Funchal. By the pool are several sun loungers and a daybed for taking in the scenery without getting your feet wet!

About the surrounding area of Villa do MonteBeing part of a small neighbourhood means that amenities are just moments away at Villa do Monte. They include a supermarket, restaurants, cafés and a bakery, which are all within a five-minute drive. As you get closer to the coast, an even greater choice of restaurants, bars, supermarkets and shops become available.
The centre of Funchal, Madeira’s capital city, is less than a 10-minute drive away. This port city is full of cosmopolitan charm and centuries of history, with everything being within really easy walking distance. The old town area is where you can stroll through narrow, cobbled streets and take in the beauty of all the historic buildings found along them. Many of them date back to the 15th century and there are plenty of picturesque churches to spot. Ride the cable car up to Monte, close to where the villa is, for some truly breathtaking views of the botanical garden and across the sea.
Also less than a 10 minute journey by car is the coastal town of Caniço. The most famous attraction here is the Christ the King statue that sits on a viewpoint by the Garajau Marine Reserve. The views from here across the sea are beautiful, and get even more impressive if you continue walking to the tip of the peninsula. Make sure you visit the lovely pebbled beach down below too. There are plenty of great overall walking opportunities here, whether it’s along the tops of cliffs or through the lush hills. Mountain biking, snorkelling and diving are also very popular activities in Caniço.

THE REGION
Funchal is the largest city on the island of Madeira and is encapsulated by Pico Ruivo and its neighbouring mountains, which look as if they have been seamlessly carved into the skyline by a Lusitanian God.
There is no better spot to start your holiday than in the Old Town, which illustrates its personality though street art, architecture and busy local businesses. There are many fine eateries, botanical gardens, a cathedral and impressive museums. Perhaps hop on the Madeira Cable Car as one of your first activities, as this will give you a great idea of the islands size.
Many flock Funchal in order to enjoy the Atlantic Coastline. This is home to its prominent harbour, where hundreds of boats and yachts, some of which enable visitors to embark on a magical sea voyage, can be found. Funchal really is a destination for lovers of the sea; as there are renowned surfing points, as well as being a great place to spot some whales.
Madeirans are also notorious for their elaborate festivals. If you’re travelling during the New Year, you will be treated to one of the world’s biggest Firework Festivals…a dazzling sight! During late February & early Mrach, you are able to witness Carnival and the streets of Funchal are lit with parades and festivities. If that’s not enough for you; the Atlantic Festival International Fireworks Competition, Wine Festival and Christmas are all noteworthy dates for anyone visiting Funchal.
There are some incredible villas on the island and we believe that we have done a great job finding them for you. Have a browse and let us know what you think.
ABOUT MADEIRA
The island of Madeira can be found south west of mainland Portugal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the island’s location, its is considered to have a Mediterranean climate that serves locals and visitors all year round – making it an ideal escape from reality at any point in the year.
What we love Madeira for is its seemingly ongoing festivals! Madeirans have found an excuse to celebrate most things; including film, their natural surroundings and key patron saints. This means that planning a visit during these days and even weeks of commemoration is well worth it (scroll down to see some key dates).
Madeira is divided into several municipals, each with a special offering to those who visit this island. Our favourite two communities are Funchal and Calheta and these are where you will find most of our beautiful villas.
Madeira’s landscape extends much more than a striking coastline. Make sure you pack some hiking boots and venture inland during your stay. With mountainous trails along Vereda do Arieiro, or more countryside appropriate paths like Levada do Risco and waterfall chasing treks like Levada do Caldeirao Verde – this archipelago has everything a keen outdoors person requires.
For those who enjoy either playing or watching sports, you’ll be happy to know Madeira offers so much selection. Madeira is also home to three notable football clubs, so if you’re visiting during the football season and want to see a good quality of football, you have every chance to. Porto Santo Golfe is the island’s renowned golf course. With an 18-hole course (Par 72) overlooking a Galapagos-like backdrop, golf enthusiasts will certainly want a ‘slice’ of the action! Surfers can access some great beaches like Jardim do Mar, Ponta Pequena, Paul do Mar, and Fajã da Ovelha in order to find some swell. Or, if you’re simply looking to recline on a sun lounger and soak up some rays, whilst listening to crystal clear waves break as they hit the shores, you will find plenty of man-made beaches & Lidos created for your leisure!
With a superb climate, close proximity to the coastline, wonderful cuisine, charming locals and astonishing scenery – this is a fabulous holiday choice for families & friends.
But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Madeira, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla do Monte suits the needs of families with children down to the ground. It’s especially great for those with older children, as they’ll love the independence of having their own bedroom with ensuite bathroom. There’s plenty of space outside for both relaxing and playing, and the pool is sure to be popular with children of all ages!
Less than a five-minute drive from the villa is Madeira Botanical Garden. It’s one of the largest botanical gardens in Madeira and is a vibrant and beautiful showcase of all the flowers, vegetables and herbs found on the island. Exploring all the individual gardens is an adventure for the little ones, and older children will enjoy learning plenty of interesting facts.

An easy 5 star review
Having spent 11 weeks researching the perfect villa for my wife’s 40th birthday celebrations we found Villa do Monte…….. and it did not disappoint!!!!!!!!
Simply Stunning
The villa itself is breath-taking, spacious and has every amenity that you could require, but the true success with this place are the views at night.
Pour a glass of wine get in the Jacuzzi and soak it up!!!!!!
I have been home a week and already I am wanting to return. -
This holiday home really deserves the name villa
This holiday home really deserves the name villa. The location, facilities and stunning views are hard to beat in our opinion. We will definitely be back.

Had a great week at this very modern stylish villa with my family
The Villa needs a little TLC maybe due to being empty for so long during covid but nothing that spoilt our holiday. Would definitely recommend for families with babies (still not crawling or walking) or older children due to the design. There are a few shops within walking distance but as the villa is on an extremely steep hill I would not recommend the walk for the less able. We had cars for the week which is a must. Overall it was a fantastic breakaway.

Highly Recommended!
A beautiful home with amazing views and caring host. The kitchen is well stocked. Both indoor and outdoor spaces are exceptional. I would not recommend paying to heat the pool unless you can negotiate a specific temperature (in Celsius) as it was still too cold to use in winter. The hot tub is very nice for enjoying the water outside and you can control the temperature. A hint for Madeira travelers: the airport does not sell sim cards; they must be purchased in town or prior to visit. Roads are very steep, narrow, and curvy. We had to exchange our manual transmission vehicle for a much pricier automatic. Beautiful island, friendly people.

GORGEOUS villa!
It’s even more amazing than seen in the pictures. The house was extremely clean and has every amenity you could possibly need. The location is perfect (a 20 minute downhill walk to Funchal or 7€ taxi ride) and the sunsets each night can’t be beat. I can’t recommend this location highly enough!
