The Resort
Courchevel is made up of six satellite villages, each with their own distinct style and atmosphere, and picturesque forest roads to lead you in-between. Most well known is the illustrious Courchevel 1850 with its reputation for exclusivity and an A-List clientele. 1850 is certainly the place to go for five-star hotels, swanky bars and extravagant nightlife. The other Courchevel villages (such as Courchevel Moriond) have a much more laid back vibe and are certainly the more affordable choice.
The skiing in Courchevel is split into four levels and you can take an excellent free ski bus in between. At the resort itself you have 150 kilometres of pistes at your feet and while you can get a Courchevel lift-pass you can also ski the whole of the Three Valleys with an area-pass. Since the slopes here face north, the snow at Courchevel is more reliable than elsewhere in the Three Valleys. Courchevel pistes are absolutely unrivaled, meticulously maintained and perfectly positioned to align with the landscape.
With its highest lift at 2740m altitude, Courchevel is exceptionally good for high altitude skiing with incredible alpine views, and the most impressive runs are best suited for intermediate and advanced skiers. But for the little ones just finding their snow legs, the resort has a fantastic children’s village where they can learn in a stress-free environment. Ski season here lasts until late April and even if you prefer not to ski at all, you’ll be well entertained with everything from scenic walks to classical music concerts.
In the evenings, the Courchevel night skies are lit up by spectacular firework displays that could get anyone in the mood for a night on the town. The bars here are a good mix of casual and upmarket, so there’s plenty for all tastes to enjoy when it comes to après-ski. Courchevel also has a well-earned reputation for being the best ski resort when it comes to gastronomy.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesChalet Eclipse, nestled in the heart of Courchevel le Praz, is not just a luxurious retreat for adults; it's a haven tailor-made for families with children, offering an ideal blend of comfort, safety, and entertainment. With its six spacious bedrooms, including a family room with a double bed and two singles, and a master bedroom for parents, the chalet ensures that everyone has their own cosy space, fostering a sense of home away from home.
What makes the Eclipse truly kid-friendly is its thoughtful design and amenities. The chalet's open living room, with a fully equipped kitchen, invites families to gather for meals and shared moments. The games room and video room, equipped with a giant screen, provide endless entertainment options, ensuring that the young ones are just as captivated off the slopes as on.
The outdoor terrace bathed in southern sunshine becomes a natural playground for children, a space where they can build snowmen, engage in playful snowball fights, or simply revel in the winter wonderland surrounding them. The chalet's proximity to the slopes, just 400 metres from the lifts, means that little ones won't have to travel far before embarking on their skiing adventures.
Courchevel le Praz, with its unique charm and family-friendly atmosphere, adds an extra layer of allure to the Eclipse's appeal for families. The village, with its narrow streets and traditional chalets, provides an enchanting backdrop for strolls with the little ones. The vast network of free shuttles ensures easy access to Courchevel 1850, allowing families to explore the highest village in the resort without hassle.
The après-ski scene in Courchevel le Praz is not just for adults; it's a lively atmosphere that kids can enjoy too, perhaps indulging in some hot cocoa or a treat from the charming local patisseries. And for a touch of history and excitement, the Praz Olympic springboard, a unique remnant from the 1992 Olympic Games, offers a thrilling spectacle that might just ignite the adventurous spirit in the younger members of the family.
In essence, Chalet Eclipse and its idyllic location in Courchevel le Praz aren't just a destination for families; they're a canvas for creating cherished memories, a winter wonderland where every detail is crafted with the comfort and joy of children in mind. It's not just a skiing holiday; it's a family adventure, where Chalet Eclipse becomes the cosy cocoon from which unforgettable Alpine experiences unfold.
