What you should know…
- As many of the ski slopes are at altitude, you’ll want to build your exposure gradually to prevent altitude sickness. You can also ask your GP for a prescription to hopefully prevent or minimise the impact of altitude sickness. Not everyone suffers with it, but it’s impossible to know until you’re at altitude. Fortunately, it only takes a few days to adjust.
- Look out for the flags, especially if you’re beginning. Green and blue mark beginners pistes. Those marked red should only be attempted by very experienced skiers.
- It goes without saying but make sure you pack accordingly. You’ll need to keep warm but you can also build up quite a sweat out on the slopes. Make sure you use your boot rack overnight so you’ve got toasty toes for the morning.
- Don’t underestimate the impact of the sun. it’s advisable to wear sunscreen especially on your face.

Location
About the surrounding area of Apartment Ibex IThe French Alps are the portions of France's vast Alps mountain range. They dominate the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur regions of the country. You've probably seen them immortalised in films – a place known for majesty, magic, glamour and adrenaline, where visitors seek cosiness and adventure in equal measure.
Méribel is known as the world's largest ski area at 600 km and contains over 300 marked runs, 28 fun runs, 160 ski lifts and 62,000 metres of cumulative vertical drops.
It's very much known as a skier's playground, making it ideal for hardcore veterans and newbies alike and everything in between, making it a great place to test your metal or get started.
Located in the Rond-point des Pistes area of Méribel, the residence is renowned as one the most luxurious in the resort. Its location is mere steps from shops and services, such as the ski pass offices, ESF and Pioupiou Club, and 50 meters from the ski room.
The Méribel resort signals sophistication, grandeur and charm and is internationally acclaimed for its amazing services, phenomenal skiing opportunities and blissful architecture. The resort is located at the very epicentre of Les Trois Vallées.
The area spans three interlinked valleys but with over half of the pistes coloured green or blue, the majority of the skiing opportunities are ideal for beginnings wanting to cut their teeth (metaphorically of course) on the slopes.
Around 85% of the skiing area is situated at over 1,800 metres in altitude with a northerly exposure. This ensures snow throughout the entire ski season. You're essentially visiting a ski safari on the three valleys, and you'll be able to make your way between the valleys eleven resorts on skis alone if you wish to include Courchevel, Bride-les-Bains, Les Menuires, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, Val Thorens and Orelle.
Wonderfully the area has a lively, warm family atmosphere, so it's ideal if travelling with your loved ones. You can enjoy Front de Neige in La Chaudanne, the festive location of Rond-point des Pistes with its range of terraces. Make sure you pay a visit to the renowned Folie Douce. You can also take a trip to the Olympic Park, complete with a swimming pool, ice rink, spa and gym.
At day you can take in the thick, churning snow and watch the area light up like a Christmas snow globe at night. Both have their charm and the atmosphere is truly unbeatable.

The Resort
Méribel is a village with a true alpine heart. You won’t find blocks of hotels and purpose-built facilities here. Instead, the compact and lively town centre is picture-postcard perfect, and its atmosphere is quaint and fairytale-like. It is without a doubt the most romantic resort in the area and if you’re planning a couples holiday in the snow you’ll definitely want to take a closer look at Méribel.
At the centre of the world famous Trois Vallées (Three Valleys), Méribel makes up part of the largest ski domain in the world. Across the valleys, it has six sister resorts. You can either get a single-resort lift pass and keep to the fantastic beginner and intermediate terrain there, but you also have the option of purchasing a pass that covers the whole area.
The advanced lift system at Méribel will let you maximise your time on the snow and make sure you’re not waiting around in queues. With 67 runs to try out just in the resort itself, there is no time to be wasted. Just beware of the afternoon sun cutting things short on the west-facing slopes and prepare to get up with the sun if you’re after untouched powder. At it’s highest skiing point Méribel reaches an altitude of 2952 metres and the descent from this point is known to be one of the most scenic runs around.
Aside from the world-class skiing, Méribel is also known to be one of the liveliest resorts in the Three Valleys. Many of its residents and bar-owners (as well as plenty of its visitors) are expat-Brits who certainly know how to party. The après-ski scene here is truly top-notch!
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe area is famous for being family-friendly, which is why families flock here so often. There’s so much to enjoy about spending time here together as a family, including the perpetual Christmas-like atmosphere.
Cosy in your cabin, sleeping in bunk beds, enjoying dinner close to the lulling flames of the fire, spending evenings with boards games, cups of hot cocoa and marshmallows or staring out at the spar-spangled night sky, this truly is a winter wonderland that enchants children and adults alike.
With a vast number of pistes ideal for beginners, this is the perfect place for children to learn to get to grips with the slopes under the watchful eye of a first-class instructor. There are also many ski lifts to help you explore the eleven resorts that dot the three interlinking valleys, each with something slightly different to offer.
You can also make use of relaxing experiences and treatments, such as the sauna, hammam and gym.
In Méribel centre, the main village of Méribel, you’ll find the main hub for accommodation, activities and shopping excursions. It can feel very much like wandering through an enchanting Christmas film – here it’s eternally festive.
There are also a range of pubs to enjoy, including L’Abreuvoir, La Taverne, Le Savoy and Le Barometer. You can also enjoy terraced restaurants such as La Cantine d’Alvar with striking views of the surrounding French Alps and Les Saints Peres, a grand bar experience.
In Le Rond Point Des Pistes, you can also enjoy sun drenched terraces and infrastructure specifically built for children known as Piou-Piou. Here you can take in majestic mountain views.
You might also want to take a trip to the more residential areas which have a charm of their own. These include Mussillon, La Renarde and the Route des Chalets. The appeal of these locations is that you can see the unspoilt lifestyle of those living in the Allues Valley. The architecture remains preserved to the urban planning code, and you can enjoy basking in the peace and serenity of nature.
Another great option to explore with the kids is Méribel village – a beautiful and charming hamlet combining wood and stone chalets. You can also find a small chapel here and, rather quaintly, a bread oven. You’ll find a large car park here and a reception where you can buy ski passes. Enjoy lunch or dinner at one of its two restaurants, or head to the dynamic bar for an evening of entertainment. You can also enjoy the local bakery and pick up some treats at the mini market.
The darling Raffort is a hamlet located in the Méribel Valley. Its unique selling point is that it consists almost wholly of refurbished bands and chalets. Here you’ll find authentic serenity that doesn’t scrimp on grandeur.
