The living space on the ground floor enjoys a huge open fireplace that makes the room come alive when lit. The Resort

Méribel is a village with a true alpine heart. You won’t find blocks of hotels and purpose-built facilities here. Instead, the compact and lively town centre is picture-postcard perfect, and its atmosphere is quaint and fairytale-like. It is without a doubt the most romantic resort in the area and if you’re planning a couples holiday in the snow you’ll definitely want to take a closer look at Méribel.

At the centre of the world famous Trois Vallées (Three Valleys), Méribel makes up part of the largest ski domain in the world. Across the valleys, it has six sister resorts. You can either get a single-resort lift pass and keep to the fantastic beginner and intermediate terrain there, but you also have the option of purchasing a pass that covers the whole area.

The advanced lift system at Méribel will let you maximise your time on the snow and make sure you’re not waiting around in queues. With 67 runs to try out just in the resort itself, there is no time to be wasted. Just beware of the afternoon sun cutting things short on the west-facing slopes and prepare to get up with the sun if you’re after untouched powder. At it’s highest skiing point Méribel reaches an altitude of 2952 metres and the descent from this point is known to be one of the most scenic runs around.

Aside from the world-class skiing, Méribel is also known to be one of the liveliest resorts in the Three Valleys. Many of its residents and bar-owners (as well as plenty of its visitors) are expat-Brits who certainly know how to party. The après-ski scene here is truly top-notch!

Chalet Macoun is perfect for families. It is beautifully presented and enjoys four bedrooms and a wonderful living space. There is an excellent flow between the living spaces.

Meribel is an excellent ski resort for families. You can buy family ski passes which can make the holiday a little cheaper. In the centre, La Chaudanne is wonderful with an outstanding complex, Parc Olympique which offers a swimming pool, gym, ice rink, spa, climbing wall, bowling alley and night club as well as an excellent medical centre. The ski lifts leave from La Chaudanne and it is a frequent meeting place and the place for many ski schools. With plenty of green, blue and red runs, Meribel is great for families. The Altiport area is a lovely way to introduce children to the slopes. Its Moon Wild route is very gentle and very pretty through the forest. Children also love the themed areas and snowparks. The Inuit village in the Altiport area enjoys banked turns, a mini slalom course and themed games. The moon park boasts ten hectares of obstacles to practice on and take jumps for those that are looking for more of a thrilling ski. Le P’tit Moon is a designated area for young skiers aged between six and twelve years old. If they are tired after morning ski lessons, there are some delightful picnic areas at the start of the Saulire Express and below the Pas du Lac gondola in Mottaret. During the school holidays, the French ski school ESF operate a torch lit descent that children love.

Sledging is very popular. There are designated areas for it as well as a fully secure area dedicated to sledging for little kids. You can also sledge at the Rond Point area where there is a magic carpet to take you back to the top of the slope! There is even night sledging in Meribel Mottaret. You can sledge down the Himalaya green slope back down into the centre of Meribel Mottaret.

Children love popping into a wonderful ‘Kenothèque’ family centre with Méribel’s mascot, Kenotte. You will find fairytale readings, games, arts and crafts, Kapla wooden constructions, books, drawing contests, make up sessions, and many other surprises and highlights of the week on offer. Children also enjoy igloo building and cheese fondue nights which are available during school holidays for seven to twelve year olds. The sports complex offers bowling for children aged three and over. There is free entry to under fives at the ice rink and swimming pool.
