Arriving at Chalet Violette, one of the first things you’re sure to notice is the lovely outdoor hot tub and sauna - perfect for rejuvenating after a tiring day on the mountain. Inside, you’ll enter by a spacious porch and entry hall, with a dedicated space to store your equipment between ski sessions located just inside the property.

Behind the lounge area is a long dining table, perfect for group meals that have been masterfully prepared in your fully-equipped kitchen. Offering subdued luxury through and through, one of the most popular aspects of Chalet Violette is the support from its owners. Getting to Chalet Violette from Geneva is pretty straightforward, taking around just over an hour by car. While you can take shared coaches to Chamonix from Geneva, we do recommend renting a car during your stay as it makes getting around the resort significantly easier.
Once in Chamonix, you’ll find Chalet Violette located slightly back from the centre of town providing you with lots of space to rest and relax away from the lively resort centre. While much of the town is walkable, it’s about 20 minutes to the lifts from Valhalla1 which can be quite a trek with all your equipment in tow. The Resort
Chamonix is often preceded by its own reputation. As one of the most famous ski resorts in the world, it has visitors travelling from all corners of the world to experience the epic runs year after year. The Chamonix town centre, also known as Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, is an endlessly inviting little city with enough going on to entertain skiers and non-skiers alike for weeks on end. For those travelling from the UK, it is fabulously easy to reach. You can drive straight from Calais by motorway and be set up in a gorgeous chalet in less than half a day.
The Chamonix Valley encompasses five main ski areas on four different mountains (with easy transfers in between). You can get yourself a single-resort lift pass or one that encompasses the whole valley. If you go with the latter option you’ll even have access to the Italian side of the valley in Courmayeur. The wider area encompasses 106 pistes at up to 3842m altitude and unparalleled off-piste runs.
Most of Chamonix’s ski areas are best suited to those who already feel at home on a pair of skis. Beginners definitely won’t get as much out of this valley as those who are comfortable tackling a black run. But that’s not saying Chamonix is unromantic by any means. There is incredible scenery for everyone to enjoy, from non-skiers to experts, and nature lovers will fall in love with the Chamonix in summer too. Ski season, however, often lasts until mid-March.
Once the skiing is over at the end of the day you’ll still find plenty to keep you occupied in town. There is an excellent selection of restaurants to choose from, ranging from Michelin starred fine dining to street food that will line your stomach for the après-ski (and rest assured there are dozens of great bars and clubs to choose from!)
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesIf you’re planning to visit Chalet Viollette with your very own snow angels then be prepared for a magical experience. Chalet Viollette and the wider Chamonix resort are absolutely fantastic for families, no matter their age.
At the chalet itself, kids can make use of the property’s hot tub and sauna for an authentic winter experiesn - just be careful with kids using the facilities and make sure to follow any rules and guidelines set out by the chalet owner.
Inside, kids can connect to wireless internet to stream their favourite media, play games and keep connected to their friends and family back home. When not connected to their devices, they can join the rest of the group around the home’s TV to watch their favourite films and movies.
In the wider area, there is so much for kids to do the hardest thing is choosing where to start first. From Chalet Viollette, the family-friendly Parinoire de Chamonix is just a five-minute walk away. This indoor olympic-sized ice ring has lots of family fun on offer, from skating sessions and lessons to seasonal ice hockey matches.
For snow-based fun, take little ones for a go on the breath-taking Luge Alpine Coast of Chamonix. Perfect for thrillseekers of all ages, don't miss out on your chance to zip through the majestic Alpine forestscape on a two-person luge.
