A short walk from the traditional Savoyard village of Châtel, contemporary Chalet Alpina is a perfect place to stay at any time of year whether skiing in the heart of Les Portes du Soleil, visiting the idyllic shores of Lake Geneva or soaking up the summer mountain scenery.
This family-owned 4-bedroom chalet sleeps 8 guests (plus two additional children) and its interiors are both modern and beautiful. Step through to the vast open-plan living and dining space and be amazed by the mountain vistas. The L-shaped sofa is positioned near the fireplace whilst the superb kitchen and dining area lead straight out to the balcony with a view of the valley – an idyllic spot for al-fresco dining on summer evenings as the stars appear.
Families will adore the mezzanine TV lounge with table football and a PS5 whilst adults will appreciate the gym and large sauna downstairs, a true touch of luxury. All four bedrooms are gorgeous and have their own en suite shower rooms. There’s the master double upstairs with its private balcony, the charming quad with cosy bunk-beds and two spacious double bedrooms on the lower floor with doors opening out to the lower terrace.
Embrace the alpine ambience of Châtel, around a 15-minute walk away, with its inviting restaurants, bars, little shops selling delicious mountain cheeses, charcuterie and crafts, the weekly market (mid-April to early December) and aquatic centre with spa and indoor swimming pool.
The seasonal beauty of this region will never fail to inspire you. Just 40km away are the splendid shores of Lake Geneva with Évian-les-Bains and its magnificent vistas across the lake towards Switzerland. You could even take the ferry across to Lausanne for the perfect day out before returning to your stylish French home.

The perfect base for your winter holiday in the Les Portes du Soleil skiing area, enjoy the snowy outlook from the covered balcony at this stylish chalet near the traditional town of Châtel. With its games area, sauna and gym, Chalet Alpina will impress every age whilst the location is fantastic, just off the road connecting the village to the Linga gondola. In the height of the winter you can look out to a children’s skiing area right in front of the chalet whilst the ski bus is only 200m away taking you to the Super Châtel or Linga lifts. As well as fantastic skiing opportunities, admire the traditional Savoyard architecture of Châtel as you experience its delightful restaurants, stock up on delicious local goods and even make the most of the local aquatic centre and spa.

There is so much to keep you entertained in the summer months from wonderful mountain hiking and biking opportunities to paragliding, fishing and many more outdoor adventures. For yet more magnificent scenery, venture to the shores of Lake Geneva and soak up the splendour of Évian-les-Bains or hop on a ferry and cross the Swiss border to spend the day exploring Lausanne. Return to your chic summer chalet, relax in the sauna or work out in the gym as kids chill out on the games mezzanine, before gathering on the terrace for sociable meals and fresh mountain air.

Chalet Alpina is just outside the traditional French village of Châtel, close to the Swiss border and only 38km from Évian-les-Bains on Lake Geneva.
Here you are in the heart of the Portes du Soleil skiing area with wonderful mountain hikes and other outdoor adventures once the snow disappears. Fly into Geneva Airport (82km) whilst the closest train station is Aigle (30km) in Switzerland (it is around five hours from Paris via Lausanne).
The chalet enjoys a very convenient location, set on the road that connects Châtel to the nearby Linga gondola (1.6km) – this route is regularly cleared in snowy conditions. In the height of the winter there is a children’s skiing area in front of the chalet (you have great views of this from your balcony) whilst the ski bus stop is only 200m away. You can walk to the village in around 15 minutes.
Once a farming village, Châtel is now a much-loved resort throughout the year with traditional Savoyard houses, restaurants, bars, a supermarket and other handy shops, an indoor swimming pool and spa, a soft play centre as well as a winter carrousel and ice-rink (late December to early April). Try delicious local produce in little shops in and around the village including mountain cheeses and charcuterie. Look out for the charming market on a Wednesday morning (late April to early December).
There are skiing opportunities all round Châtel, part of the huge Portes du Soleil area. Super Châtel is reached via the ski bus, a great resort for all abilities with gentler slopes, sledging and more challenging pistes. Meanwhile, the Linga gondola take you an altitude of 15000m with stunning scenery throughout the year!
In the summer months this region is loved for its mountain hiking opportunities and it is also a great base for visiting Lake Geneva. Évian-les-Bains (38km) is a beautiful place to spend the day with its thermal spas, impressive architecture, medieval lanes, musical fountain and gorgeous lakeside promenade with vistas across the lake to Switzerland. Enjoy a boat trip and appreciate more of the surrounding beauty or take a ferry across the lake to visit Lausanne.
Outdoor adventurists will also appreciate paragliding in Châtel (usually mid-December to mid-April and mid-June to mid-September), zip-lining through the mountain scenery, snow or summer mountain biking, rafting through the Dranse River or even a spot of fishing from spring to early autumn (permits required).

The Resort
Châtel is your very best alternative to purpose-built resorts. Situated in between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, this traditional French alpine village climbs up the hillside and offers an experience which is still unspoilt by tourism. Châtel is most frequented by French clientele, and aside from school holidays you won’t find big tour operators bringing busloads of British tourists around. The surrounding area is also full of beautiful natural sites, so if you’re keen to spend an afternoon off the slopes, hiking or snowshoeing are great options. These excursions also make Châtel the perfect site for an alpine holiday in summer.
On the sunlit slopes right above the village, you’ll find Châtel’s own pistes. They are very scenic to ski, and one of the lifts to the top even provides fantastic views over Lake Geneva. The resort is separated into two areas, Barbossine-Super Châtel and Linga-Pre la Joux, which are linked by a free bus service. The highest slope peaks at 2200 metres and there are 46 runs in total. Châtel has many long tree-lined runs that are suitable for any proficiency level and that stay open until late April.
Châtel is also part of the world famous Portes du Soleil circuit, made up of twelve resorts spread across the French-Swiss border. You can ski Châtel and some of its surrounding areas (including Torgon and Morgins in Switzerland) with a Châtel Liberté Lift Pass, or you can get access to the whole of the Portes du Soleil with a wider area pass and explore its 600 kilometres of slopes. Beginners might be happy staying closer to Châtel while intermediate and expert skiers cover the more challenging parts of the circuit. If you choose the latter, you could find yourself starting out a run in France and ending it in Switzerland.
Keep in mind that Châtel is limited in terms of après-ski. It is not a party resort, but one that caters brilliantly well for families. Special events and activities are held for children year-round, and there is a daycare for those too little to spend all day on the slopes. Instead of spending your evening at the bars, Châtel is the place to discover local French cuisine, take the kids sledging or bowling, or even skiing under the stars as part of the resort is floodlit between 7:30 and 9:30 PM.

Families are warmly welcomed at this wonderful chalet. Older kids will adore the mezzanine level TV lounge with a PS5 and table football. If travelling with youngsters, various baby equipment can be requested (cot, highchair, booster seats for the table, step, night light, crockery, baby bath, bath seat and changing mat). What’s more, there is a children’s ski area right in front of the chalet!
It’s around a 15-minute walk to Châtel, a traditional village with restaurant and a small supermarket. Just outside the village centre there is an aquatic centre with an indoor swimming pool with an area for children as well as a soft-play centre for ages 2-12.
Winter
From late December to early April enjoy the ice-skating rink in the village and a charming carrousel. If you are here for the skiing then the Portes du Soleil ski area offers a variety of slopes for many ages and abilities – Linga gondola is 1.6km away, beautiful at any time of year. Super Châtel offers gentle pistes for beginners whilst sledging is a fun activity either close to the chalet or at Super Châtel.
Summer
As the snow disappears, discover wonderful hiking routes, mountain biking and other outdoor adventures across the region. Experience rafting along the river near Thonon-les-Bains or spend time admiring the beautiful shores of Lake Geneva. Évian-les-Bains is around a 50-minute drive away with its funicular railway, boat trips and lakeside promenade with majestic vistas towards Switzerland. Even closer is Lac de Vonnes , just over 2km away, home to a summer area and picnic benches – a pretty place to walk.

We cannot stress enough how satisfied we are with our stay. The past week was simply wonderful. Everything, really everything, was taken care of to perfection
The temperature was just right, making us feel right at home as soon as we stepped inside. And the amenities!
Really everything you could think of was available in the chalet. From an abundance of cooking utensils to large cooking pots, from fondue to raclette, even a wine cooler was not lacking.
It felt like all our wishes were fulfilled even before we could voice them.
The atmosphere in the chalet was warm and inviting, making us feel immediately at ease.
It was the perfect base for an unforgettable week. We are incredibly grateful to the owners for their attention to detail and hospitality.
