Offering an abundance of natural and contemporary charm, Juniper House is a newly renovated stone villa with four bedrooms in the idyllic village of Temnica. Located in the stunning Karst region and named with the poetry of one of the region’s greatest poets, Srečko Kosovel, in mind, Juniper House evokes the heady and intoxicating scent of the juniper tree, a well-known sight in this beautiful rural heartland of Slovenia. Featuring a private swimming pool, a charming garden and unforgettable views of the Adriatic Sea, up to ten guests can enjoy unwinding in harmony with nature in this picturesque holiday home.
A dip in the pool in the early morning sunshine is the most refreshing way to start your day. There are plenty of sun loungers on the poolside terrace, perfect for a morning spent admiring the panoramic countryside views with a cup of freshly brewed coffee or relaxing with a good book. The landscaped garden is inspired by the Karst region and provides plenty of space for the family to rest and play. The outdoor space of Juniper House also features a traditional loggia, enhancing the villa’s distinctive charm and providing a lovely, shaded shelter for everyone to enjoy. There is a dining area on the balcony where you can gather your loved ones for a memorable meal at sunset.
Inside the villa, a modern, well-appointed kitchen on the ground floor provides the ideal space to prepare some of the amazing local produce you have discovered whilst wandering through the local villages. There is an adjacent utility room with laundry facilities and a modern bathroom. The kitchen leads seamlessly to a wonderful open plan space with a traditional dining area and a comfortable lounge. Here you will find a fireplace, where you can relax and chat all night with a glass of the regional wine. A large, flat-screen TV also allows for a cosy movie night in.
Juniper House can accommodate eight guests in four double bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom featuring a walk-in shower. One of the bedrooms is a connecting room. The bedroom furnishings are stylish and understated, with each room benefitting from gorgeous natural light. Two bedrooms feature ceilings with exposed wooden beams, while one of the rooms leads to a pretty Venetian balcony at the front of the villa. Two comfortable sofa beds are also available in the villa for two additional guests.
The villa’s location in the enchanting village of Temnica showcases the unique beauty of the Karst region in all its serene glory. Situated on the edge of the majestic Karst plateau and very close to the Italian border, you will find the meeting point of Slovenia’s three fantastic wine regions, where the warmth of the Mediterranean breeze meets the fresh, rejuvenating mountain air.

The village lies in the beautiful Karst countryside, very close to the border with neighbouring Italy. Known for its supreme air quality, excellent gastronomy and intriguing blend of cultures and traditions, the region gives visitors a chance to witness a sustainable and nourishing way of life, where the land provides a rich link with the country’s history. While you may not feel inclined to leave the comforts of your new home away from home, where it would be very easy to spend your days lounging by the pool or exploring local walking trails, the joys of the Karst are waiting to be discovered.
For many visitors to the region, the sparkling waters of the nearby Adriatic Sea beckon. Within half an hour, you can drive through the peaceful countryside, cross the border and soak up the sun and relaxed ambience of the Italian coastline. Make your way to Sistiana Bay, where you can spend the day swimming on the beach of Castelreggio, overlooked by the Duino Cliffs. The beach is perfect for families, with activities such as boat tours available, as well as plenty of pizzerias and cafes, in case you decide to stay and watch the sun go down over the calm sea.
If you wish to make the most of this unique location by doing something a little different, a day trip to the astonishing Postojna Cave is a fascinating change of scenery! Here, you can board the train and take in the sights of this fantastic subterranean wonder whilst travelling along the oldest cave railway in the world. Located nearby, Predjama Castle is an imposing Rennaissance structure built into the mouth of a cave on a dramatic cliffside. The limestone system of the Škocjan Caves is another awe-inspiring attraction that includes one of the world's largest known underground river canyons, making it a well-deserved UNESCO World Heritage site.
A trip to the neighbouring Brda region offers visitors the opportunity to indulge fully in some delectable gastronomic experiences. From visits to local farmsteads and olive groves to an in-depth tour of a traditional wine cellar, you will be sure to feel the power of this region’s ancient connection with its land. The region is not only famous for its fantastic wine. For something a little different, you can also visit local beekeepers and honey producers, where you can taste some of the natural goodness that Brda’s bees have produced.
The bustling Italian port of Trieste is also within driving distance, so city lovers have the option to stroll along the streets before stopping off for a coffee at the iconic Caffè San Marco. From here, you can drive to the Lipica Stud Farm, a specially protected area of natural beauty that is home to over three hundred mesmerising Lipizzan horses.

However, should you wish to wander further afield, the diverse landscape of the Karst region has a wide range of activities to keep the whole family entertained.
The Adriatic coastline offers a seemingly endless array of safe and well-maintained beaches to discover. Pack a picnic and spend the day at Sistiana Bay, where everyone can dip in and out of the beautiful blue waters and relax on the white sands. For those seeking a little more adventure, try sea kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding under the majestic Duino cliffs. Later, make your way to Trieste’s Barcola promenade, where the whole family can walk to the dazzling Miramare Castle, stopping off for some delicious gelato along the way. Trieste’s city centre is also well worth a visit, thanks to its excellent museums, vibrant squares and pastry shops on every corner.
For a day in the countryside, visit the fairytale Lipica Stud Farm, with gorgeous green pastures and stunning white horses. The estate arranges programmes specifically for families, with educational activities and guided pony rides for children. On some occasions, children are taken out to the pastures to see the majestic Lipizzan horses and foals up close. There is also the opportunity to see a live show at the stud farm, where you can watch the horses train in the riding ground, accompanied by music. Everyone will truly appreciate the beauty and grace of these amazing creatures after a day spent exploring the stud farm.
Slovenia’s emerald River Soča is another incredible place for the family to visit on a day trip, with memorable hiking trails and a feast of water-based activities. Around the Soča Valley, there are dozens of agencies offering a range of activities with enthusiastic and experienced guides. This is a wonderful place to feel close to nature while having a great time outside in the fresh air.
Boarding the underground train at the magical Postojna Cave Park will mark the beginning of an exciting adventure that the whole family will remember, with hidden passages and plenty of twists and turns. Learn about prehistoric animals at the park’s Vivarium and marvel at the cave’s never-ending stalactites and stalagmites, before making your way up to the surface to enter the land of medieval knights at Predjama Castle. Make sure to wear comfortable and warm clothing on your travels below the ground!
