Retreat from modern life and embrace the serenity of Finca Mariola, a stunningly restored farmhouse in the protected landscapes of the Sierra de Mariola natural park, around an hour from the Costa Blanca.
The English owners fell in love with Finca Mariola on a mountain biking excursion through this peaceful region – at this point it was an abandoned 19th century farmhouse with no water or electricity supply. Their determination to restore and renovate this shell of a home was truly remarkable and worth the years of endurance and hard work.
The estate is still off-grid yet solar panels have been installed, a water source has been brought to the house and many old materials re-claimed. There have also been plenty of modern additions such as the stylish new windows and gorgeous en suite bathrooms with Italian showers and luxurious natural toiletries. Best of all perhaps, a beautiful heated swimming pool has been sensitively added for guests to enjoy.
Up to 10 guests are warmly welcomed at this magnificent abode. After ringing the bell, you will be invited in to the garden terrace room with its long wooden dining table and lounge area overlooking the gardens, pool, sauna and natural surroundings. Step into the reception space and lounge where there’s always complimentary tea, coffee and water alongside an honesty bar, then discover the charming living room and its wood burner for cooler months.
Five bedrooms are in a guest annexe reached via the courtyard garden. They all feature high quality king or super king-size beds (three of which can be split as twins), underfloor heating, ceiling fans, pretty fabrics and an authentic sense of rustic character with contemporary touches. One of these doubles is suited for guests with restricted mobility including wheelchair users.
Breakfast is lovingly prepared for you each morning and the owners can also cook lunch and dinner for you (at an extra charge) when you are not dining out locally. All meals are made from scratch using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible – this is a wonderful way to relax and recharge on your holiday and be truly looked after as you dine in the garden room or al-fresco on the terrace. The owners have their own living and sleeping quarters within the main part of the house and adjoining barn.
What you should know…
- Please be aware that this is a catered holiday home and therefore guests do not have access to a kitchen. Breakfast is included alongside complimentary water and tea/coffee during your stay. Lunches and evening meals should be arranged with the owners (charges apply, payable locally) and there is an honesty bar for soft drinks, wine, spirits and beer
- The guest bedrooms are independently accessed via the courtyard garden – one of these ground-floor doubles has been designed for guests with restricted mobility and wheelchair users – please enquire for more details
- The hospitable owners live on site – their kitchen and living quarters are in a separate wing on the right-hand side of the house whilst their master en suite bedroom is on the first floor of the main part of the house (reached via the staircase from the reception/bar area)

Location
About the surrounding area of Finca MariolaIn the heart of the Sierra de Mariola natural park yet only a 15-minute drive from a historic village, Finca Mariola enjoys a peaceful setting surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes and stunning views of forest and mountains.
The approach to the house is via a 1km-long track (bumpy at times) that winds through woodland up to the estate around 900m above sea level. This is a very private location – there are no other neighbours within 1km (other than your wonderful on-site hosts).
Declared a natural park in the early 21st century, Sierra de Mariola is a hidden gem of the Valencian region. The landscapes are perfect for walking, hiking and mountain biking as you admire mountains, forests, rivers, natural springs, caves and an impressively diverse range of flora and fauna. The highest peak is Montcabrer (1400m).
There are walks straight from the house as well as cross-country mountain biking with a range of trails from easy to more challenging - the owner is an experienced guide and can arrange guided mountain biking excursions for you. Hot-air balloon rides are another fantastic way to appreciate the spectacular scenery (they can even fly straight from the house when the weather allows). Bocairent, just a 15-minute drive away, is a joy to discover with its medieval quarter of steep cobbled lanes, pretty squares, chapels and fountains alongside local bars and bustling restaurants – the old town has been declared an artistic-historical heritage site. The incredible bullring at Plaça de Bous is carved out of the rock and is one of the oldest in the Valencian region whilst the Sant Blai cave is another highlight on the edge of the village. Festivities and events take place across the year including a dance fiesta in late August. The town is also the source of the Clariano River, home to some beautifully preserved mills from the past, an idyllic place for long walks.
Other mountain villages across the Sierra de Mariola include Alfafara, Agres and Banyeres de Mariola, all superb places to soak up the rich heritage of the region and appreciate its wonderful gastronomy. Wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the Fontenars wine region for tours and tastings.
Exploring further afield, both cities of Alicante (72km) and Valencia (104km) are fantastic days out or spend time by the coast in Gandia (66km), just over an hour away, with its characterful old town, shopping opportunities, harbour and glorious stretch of coastline.

Best Suited For: All AgesIf staying with children, there is space for a cot in two of the ground-floor courtyard bedrooms (the owners can provide one cot and one travel cot). One highchair can be provided alongside two high stools if required.
Meanwhile, families with older children/teens may be keen to book a guided mountain biking excursion with the experienced owner (do check bike size requirements in advance).
Hot-air balloon rides can be arranged (sometimes picking up at the house if the weather conditions allow) whilst the most adventurous will also appreciate the wonderful walking and hiking routes across this region, including some trails straight from the house. Meanwhile, pass rivers, natural pools, forest, caves and old mills as you explore the incredible landscapes of the Sierra de Mariola natural park.

The owners build a dream!
The house, the place, the woods around, everything breathes love, nature and attention to details.
You can see it in every room, the eye for quality and detail, the great beds, wonderful bathrooms, the salt pool, the dining tables in- and outside, the butlers bar and the amazing kitchen and food.
We will go back, no doubt about that! -
I cannot recommend Finca Mariola highly enough!
It’s truly a lovely place to visit. Set in the National Park, the nature and scenery is stunning and is a fitting back drop to the beautiful home Andrea and Ben have made. The house has been loving restored and Andrea’s magic touch is everywhere from the beautiful reclaimed furnishings to the sun hats and dressing gowns in the bedrooms. The food is wonderful too, it’s all local seasonal produce and all home cooked by Andrea. Ben is a great considerate host too, especially taking guests on bike tours of the local area. All in all if you want to get away and really focus on restoring your body and soul Finca Mariola is a must.

A slice of heaven
From the moment Andrea collected us at the airport we started to relax. Finca Mariola is a beautiful restored farmhouse set in a national park owned by an amazing couple.
Our rooms were gorgeous with the most luxurious bed linen and the comfiest bed I have slept in for a very long time. We explored the local town, had blissful massages as well as a fantastic yoga class by the pool. One of the group explored the local area on a bike ride led by Ben. Andrea is an amazing cook and the food is outstanding. We only stayed for a long weekend but got the relaxation I normally need a week off to achieve. We loved it so much we have already booked our return trip with our significant others . Can’t recommend highly enough. -
The most wonderful time
I went to a yoga retreat here and had the most wonderful time, Andrea and Ben really looked after us and every little detail had been thought of. The food and accommodation was fantastic. I left feeling completely restored and will definitely be back!

Loved my stay here.
Ben and Andrea are wonderful hosts, the accommodation is amazing and the surrounding area is beautiful. Being able to have the national park right on the doorstep for walks and bike rides is a luxury. Andrea cooked delicious food and had no issues catering to me being vegetarian. Ben was a brilliant bike guide and took me round some really fun trails with great views. Would definitely recommend, there's something for everyone.

A real life fairytale
I just returned from a week at Finca Mariola and still searching for the words to describe my time there. From the moment I arrived, my expectations were exceeded tenfold. Andrea and Ben have thought through every single detail. From the en suite restrooms outfitted with luscious Brambley products, to beautiful throw blankets in every seething area, to Ben’s frothy milk! But the best part was Andrea’s divine cooking. To experience a meal by Andrea is to feel like you’ve been eating in black and white your entire life and now eating in color.
Finca Mariola is a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered! -

This place is truly magical. Five stars through and through. Andrea and Ben have created an oasis. The location is stunning, the property is stunning. All the details inside -- the beautiful furnishings, the music, the smell of Andrea's cooking (sourced from her garden), Ben pouring us champagne on our last night. Unparalleled hospitality. I've traveled the world, and this is my favorite place I've ever stayed. World-class in every way.

What a Haven!
Wow! what a beautiful place Andrea and Ben have created! A very relaxed feel with fabulous comfy rooms, excellent food and two great hosts. All in a stunning national park.
We recently stayed at Finca Mariola for a 4 day break and couldn’t recommend more highly. Ben and Andrea had thought of just about everything to make our stay as relaxing as it could possibly be from the minute Ben collected us from Alicante airport to the minute he dropped us back for our return flight.
The journey is around an hour from Alicante airport (75 mins from Valencia) and takes you through the stunning scenery of the National Park before you join the long drive up to the house – which is stunning, a glorious mix of traditional farmhouse and modern elements surrounded by trees and mountains. The heated outdoor pool takes pride of place overlooking the neighbouring groves and is overlooked by the 5 bedrooms in which guests sleep.
Our room was a great size with plenty of space to cater for the large bed and good sized en-suite. It was also lovely and cool with an efficient ceiling fan being enough to maintain a comfortable temperature all night without that annoying buzz of air conditioning. The thought put in by our hosts also shone through here with natural toiletries, hair dryer and even hats provided for use when outside.
Andrea is a great cook and all our meals were excellent with a great range of flavours and colours at every meal – and I really appreciated how she catered for my own dietary restrictions – what a star!
Ben also provides some great advice and guidance when leading our trips out on the mountain bikes – which are great quality and very well maintained too! In fact, he converted me to mountain e-biking in just 2 rides!
We just can’t recommend Finca Mariola highly enough!
