The setting of Villa Pals is incredible. It is secluded, peaceful and gorgeous with breathtaking views out to sea. You will feel so secluded and tranquil. The gardens are mature and beautifully planted, a vivid contrast to the brilliant blue sea and sky. The villa is situated in Aigua Gelida, just 1.5km front the beach front of Tamariu and close to Begur.

The little village of Tamariu, named for the line of tamarisk trees that line its promenade, marks the start of a very exclusive part of the Costa Brava. There is none of the all-day-breakfasts, high-rises and sunburnt partygoers that you might see much further south. This area is smart, stylish and classy.

Villa Pals is a secluded paradise built on three levels. The ground floor is open plan with arched windows and doors. It is incredibly light. The living area is warm and inviting with comfy sofas and leads through to the dining area and fully equipped kitchen. The artwork in the villa is interesting and different. The living area leads through to a fabulous terrace with a fantastic pool, alfresco dining, sun loungers and a brick-built barbecue. All around are fabulous, mature trees and wonderful planters filled with colourful, joyful plants and shrubs.

On the first floor, there is a twin bedroom and a double, both with access to the fantastic terrace with sea views. There is one bathroom and another shower room, both of which are fully tiled and well-maintained.

In the basement, there is an independent studio with a twin bedroom, living space, a shower room and kitchen. It is a very bright, cheerful space that opens onto the wonderful gardens. This would be particularly useful if you had grandparents travelling with you who might appreciate a little of their own space or young adults.

What you should know…

  • There is a self-contained studio in the basement. This may be perfect if you are travelling with an extended family but it would not suit young children
  • It is only approximately 40 minutes to Girona and 90 minutes to Barcelona so very easy from the airport and also good for outings
  • Be sure to visit Begur. It is so stylish and classy with fabulous restaurants

Villa Pals is located in a fabulous area of the Costa Brava. Many residents of Barcelona have holiday homes here where they appreciate the stunning landscape, delicious cuisine and charming villages and towns.

Begur boasts Moorish and Spanish architecture, narrow, pretty streets, a crumbling Medieval castle and a fantastic spread of gastronomic fare at its classy, chic restaurants. Begur is very attractive with Neoclassical mansions sitting together with fishermen’s huts and quirky bistros. It is colourful, atmospheric and very buzzy in the summer months.

Palafrugell is historic and gorgeous with whitewashed houses and lovely little shops and cafes. There is a colourful, vibrant Sunday morning market. Calella de Palafrugell is famous for its stunning beach, Festival of Sea Shanties in July and the magnificent botanic gardens perched high on its southern tip, Cap Roig. The town beach is sprinkled with colourful fishing boats.

The pretty nearby village of Llafranc was a favourite haunt of Salvador Dali. You can walk from the villa and Tamariu to Llafranc over the majestic cliffs, passing the lovely 19th century Sant Sebastia Lighthouse. The views from the lighthouse and the cliffs are outstanding.

Pals is also worth a visit. The villagers host a number of events and festivals throughout the year, which are great fun and welcoming. The Nit d’Espelmes in mid-August sees all the lights in the village being replaced by thousands of candles. It is so atmospheric and stunningly beautiful. Outdoor live music adds to the ambience. It is a great time to visit. There is also an August Cheese and Wine Fair. Pals is a historical village with very attractive architecture. It also has an unspoilt beach, wetlands and rice fields.

Children will love Villa Pals, but you do need to think about the bedroom arrangements. There is a twin room on the first floor with the master double but the second twin is in the basement as a self-contained studio. It is therefore not appropriate for young children though it may suit teenagers. The pool is superb, and the garden has a lot of space. It is also very secluded and peaceful, so you are not disturbing anyone.

There are stunning beaches in the area.  Sa Tuna and Aiguablava are sandy and family-friendly. Aigua Gelida is gorgeous, small and ideal for snorkelling, but it is a long way down. It is probably not the best with small children. The golden-sanded beach of Pals is 3km from the Medieval town and is absolutely stunning. There are protected dunes and special ecosystems such as wetlands and rice fields along the beach.

Calella de Palafrugell has stunning natural beauty around the cove which is backed by whitewashed houses. The beach at Tamariu, just 1.5km from the villa, is perfect. If you head over to the right-hand side and past some large rocks you get to a smaller beach with a diving board which is great fun to jump from. There are many amenities such as boating, kayaking, snorkelling and diving.

Stolli’s Divebase is a friendly local company offering diving, boat tours and other outdoor activities. It is an excellent place to introduce children to scuba diving with many courses. You might see octopus, starfish, morays and sea horses. You board their boat ‘Gabriela’ from the pontoon very close to the dive shop.

Children will enjoy many of the festivals in the area, for instance, the rice festivals where they will learn how rice was planted by hand by villagers in the past.

These terms and conditions may be amended from time to time.

Security deposit €1,000 charged to client’s credit card by the owner before arrival and refunded two weeks after departure, subject to full inspection.

End of stay cleaning included? Yes. Please note that for stays less than 1 week, there will be a mandatory €100 supplement to pay via a link directly to the property manager. However, guests are required to leave the accommodation clean, tidy and in the same condition as on their arrival. Any extra cleaning, laundry, maintenance and/or rubbish disposal required will be charged against the security deposit.
Linen & towels included? Bed linen, bath and pool towels are included in the rental price.
Energy costs included? Yes, included in the rental price.
Internet access? Wi-Fi internet access included in rental price.
Minimum stay 3 nights
Changeover day Friday during high season.

Tax The tenants will need to pay a tourist tax of €0,90 per person per night for over 16's, not included in the rental price and will need to be paid prior arrival via a link direct to the supplier.
