A lovely lounge area on the terrace makes for a fine chillout spot, as does the outdoor dining space overlooking the heated, salt-water pool.

There are even more facilities at Villa Almendral – look out for the large and lovely hot tub and an impressive home gym, as well a sauna and solarium. Air-conditioning and underfloor heating are also taken care of. Your kitchen is just steps away from an informal dining area, while another dining space enjoys direct access to the terrace.

Five well-appointed bedrooms exude comfort and style, including four doubles and a twin. There are also five bathrooms. The master suite incorporates the solarium and hot tub on its private terrace.

This exceptional property puts you minutes away from the many attractions of Marbella, including numerous beaches, the charming Old Town and the glamour of the Puerto Banús marina. Marbella has a lot to entertain you in the city centre, with excellent shopping, restaurants and bars alongside beautiful parks and historic buildings. Showcasing music, movies or Andalucían culture, many festivals take place in the city throughout the year.

The wider region is great for excursions, with lots of family-friendly attractions such as water-parks, theme parks and nature parks. One of the closest is the popular Aventura Amazonia, only a 5-minute drive from Villa Almendral, which offers challenging courses through the treetops. You can make a journey up the coast and easily take in Fuengirola, Benalmádena and Torremolino, all less than 40 minutes away, or carry on to see the best of Málaga. An array of wonderful beaches and an extensive waterfront are just part of the allure of Marbella. The relaxed charm of the Old Town provides a contrast to the glossy marina lifestyle of Puerto Banús, and the city’s proximity to many fantastic locations means you can incorporate even more variety into your stay.

Beach clubs are a Marbella staple, and you can enjoy sunbathing and various water-sports at many of the city’s beaches. The likes of Fontanilla, Faro, Venus and Bajadilla are all within walking distance of the Old Town, and several more can be found along the route to Puerto Banús, around 6km west.

The Plaza de los Naranjos forms the focal point of the Old Town area. This lovely square is lined with orange trees and hosts street markets and café and restaurant terraces. Numerous points of historic interest are in the vicinity, such as Marbella’s Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation, both dating from the 16th century.

A former hospital now houses the Museo del Grabado Espanol Contemporáneo, a fascinating art museum featuring Spanish engravings and an architectural highlight. There are more gothic and renaissance stylings on show at the Magistrate’s House, located near the Plaza de los Naranjos.

Numerous excellent bars and restaurants line the Old Town streets, so you’ll never be stuck for a place to grab a drink or try traditional Spanish tapas dishes. Most other cuisines are available somewhere in town, with a range covering everything from Indian and Chinese to Italian and Mexican. Gourmet burger joints and top-notch pizzerias offer quality casual dining, while Michelin Star establishments like Skina and El Lago get creative with the high-end stuff, affirming Marbella’s reputation as a foodie hotspot.

If you fancy a break during the day, stop by Alameda Park, around halfway between the Playa de Venus beach and the Old Town. This park is a popular meeting place and features beautiful botanic gardens. Nearby, on the Avenida del Mar, you’ll find an interesting parade of Salvador Dali sculptures as you make your way down to the sea.

The Old Town is great for quirky shops – the streets around Plaza de los Naranjos are filled with artisan stores, selling handmade crafts, clothes, jewellery and speciality foods. Familiar brands are found in numbers at the huge La Canada shopping mall. Especially good for fashion, beauty and footwear, the centre also offers homewares, electronics and toys, along with a cinema and countless food outlets.

Andalucía has more than 100 golf courses, many of them within easy reach of Marbella, but you don’t need to take your clubs to enjoy some amazing scenery. The mountainous Sierra de las Nieves National Park is a great area to escape to. Botanically diverse, with many caves and some impressive peaks, it’s just waiting to be hiked. You can also get to know nature better at the Eco Nature Reserve in Ojén, about 15 minutes’ drive north of Marbella.
