Perched on a hillside and overlooking the nearby estuary in beautiful Galicia sits this charming three-bedroom villa. Natural finishes and unfussy decor make this a homely and comfortable place. The ground floor lounge and dining area have plenty of old-world charm with exposed stone walls, wooden beams and cool, tiled flooring. Unwind on the plump sofas, chat with the family or enjoy a meal at the dining table seating six people. There's even an open fireplace to keep things cosy on cooler nights. But when the sun is shining, open the glass doors and let a warm breeze waft in. For a more casual bite-to-eat, step into the simple but well-equipped kitchen and eat at the breakfast table overlooking a small terrace.

Stairs lead up to the first floor, where you'll find a lounge with a sofa and TV. Watch your favourite programme, browse the books on the bookshelf or play board games at the table. The interior also features three bedrooms with one double room and two twin rooms. Rooms are unfussy and light and boast glorious sea views. One of the twin bedrooms has an en-suite, and there's also a shared shower on this floor.

Step outside, and you'll soon be mesmerised by the rolling mountains and vivid blue estuary water. Equally blue is the infinity pool water, where you can cool off during the day or simply relax on one of the shady sunbeds. There's also a sloping garden where the children can play on the lawn while you sit and soak up the surroundings under one of the trees. But come evening, gather everyone together, light the barbecue and dine al fresco while watching the sun dip below the horizon. Casa Bargo is located on a hillside in a quiet residential area surrounded by eucalyptus and palm trees. It's a 5-minute drive to the seaside resort of Cangas with its lively market, cafe and shops and is within walking distance to a bar and small supermarket. An idyllic spot, the property is also perfectly placed for outdoor activity, with hiking trails straight from the doorstep and beautiful, unspoilt beaches nearby.

Casa Bargo is situated in a quiet residential area and overlooks the Ria de Vigo and the stunning scenery. From the property, it's less than a 10-minute walk to the local supermarket and restaurant. For those who want to immerse themselves in nature, it's a 10-minute drive to the Aldan estuary. This small bay is dotted with coves and small, unspoilt beaches and also offers plenty of magnificent hiking trails, including scenic routes to the peninsulas at Cabo Udra and Punta do Couso. But for a more leisurely stroll in nature, walk through the enchanted forest at Aldan and soak up the park's magical atmosphere with its ancient trees, river and a small castle. Other beaches worth a visit include Nerga Beach and Praia de Melide. A fifteen-minute drive away, Nerga Beach has calm waters and clean sand and is a good choice for the whole family. Alternatively, drive thirty minutes to Praia de Melide, located at the tip of the peninsula. Backed by woods, it's a quiet place for a swim and offers a fantastic walk along the cape to the lighthouse.

Closer to the property, the coastal town of Cangas is also worth a visit. Just a 5-minute drive away, you'll find a number of small beaches in the Cangas area, while in the town, you can explore the historic centre, browse the shops, and visit the lively markets. Be sure to also stop and sample the catch of the day at the restaurants down by the pier. For a full day out, head to the port in Cangas, jump on a ferry and make the 40-minute crossing to the three islands of the Cies Islands. Once used as hideouts to ambush Spanish shipping, the islands are now nature reserves and boast nine fabulous beaches. Rodas beach is the most popular of these beaches – it was once voted the best beach in the world by The Guardian. Spend the day swimming or snorkelling in the crystal-clear waters or hike along the island's mountainous trail to the Cies lighthouse, where you'll be rewarded with picture-perfect views. Once you've exhausted all the islands, have to offer, enjoy refreshments at one of the many beachside cafes before hopping back on the ferry again.

Across the estuary, the city of Vigo is also worth exploring. Stroll through the Old Town with its art galleries and wicker shops and visit the cathedral dating back to 1811. There's also a Museum of Contemporary Art where you can learn about Galician authors and admire the artwork of upcoming artists. Afterwards, be sure to enjoy a glass of Albarino wine and some tapas at one of the many excellent seafood restaurants. If you want a day at the beach, Samil beach is a good choice and perfect for children of all ages. Located in Vigo, it offers calm waters and a range of water sports, plus cafes and restaurants.

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Casa Bargo has plenty of indoor and outdoor space for kids to enjoy. Children can play games on the lawn, enjoy board games in the living room, or simply relax on the sofa and watch a film on the TV. But when the sun's out, they'll probably want to spend most of their time splashing around in the large infinity pool. When mealtime beckons, gather the family together, throw some fish on the stone BBQ and enjoy a meal al fresco while soaking up the stunning sea views. The property is also ideally placed for those who enjoy nature, and the whole family can spend the day hiking along coastal paths or exploring the area on a bicycle.

The resort of Cangas is just minutes away by car and is packed with shops, restaurants, cafes and a lively Friday market. Kids might even like to try some local seafood dishes, including mussels, spider crabs or even eels! There are also plenty of sandy beaches in the Cangas area where children can swim and snorkel in the calm waters, but for a more peaceful location, head to the nearby Aldan estuary. Just a 10-minute drive away, it's dotted with pleasant coves and beaches, and young children can safely swim in the calm waters. Whilst here, be sure to also explore the Aldan forest with its tall trees and small castle covered in moss and vines. Kids will love running through this enchanting wood and playing hide and seek inside the castle.

Back in Cangas, you can hop on a ferry and spend the day at the beautiful archipelago of Illes Cies. Kids will love the 40-minute crossing and can enjoy the thrill of spotting dolphins in the water. Once at the islands, head to Rodas Beach, where little ones can spend the day flying kites on the shore and building castles in the sand while older children can snorkel in the waters teeming with sea life. After all that activity, be sure to stop for snacks and ice cream before jumping on the ferry and heading home.

Great stay, the pictures do not do it justice! Even better than what I thought it would be :)

  • Stunning house!

    on 02/08/2021

Stunning house! Nicely decorated and cozy! The garden and pool were amazing. The host, José Luis, went out of his way to make our stay perfect.

  • What else would you need?

    on 02/07/2020

Perfect! Even better than it looks on the pictures: 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 (kind of) living rooms, 2 gardens, BBQ facility, fully equipped kitchen, swimming pool, amazing view...what else would you need?

  • Very nice place with a great view

    on 19/06/2019

Very nice place with a great view especially from the pool! The supermarket near is rather small, but in Vigo there is large Carrefour which you can visit, if you arrive by car. 5-10 minutes by car from the house to Cangas ferry harbour, enjoy 20min ferry ride to Vigo old town.
