Location
About the surrounding area of Casa Cambados PuebloLocated in Galicia, which remains mostly off the typical tourist trails of Spain, Casa Cambados Pueblo is the perfect destination for those looking for an authentic Spanish retreat. Situated in the beautiful town of Cambados, mere metres from the white sandy shores of the beach, this sophisticated villa is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. Guests can walk to the local shops, restaurants and supermarkets or venture further out of town to the vineyards and historic sites. Santiago de Compostela is a forty-five-minute drive away, offering a fantastic array of things to see and do.
Cambados itself is located in the 'Ría de Arousa' with cobbled streets winding their way around this seafaring town. With rich architectural wealth as the 'Plaza de Fefiñáns', ruins of Santa Mariña Dozo, San Sadurniño's tower, A Pastora's viewpoint are all worth a visit. In the town, there is a covered market and two weekly markets which should provide all the products you could need in the way of shopping, choosing fresh, local ingredients to enhance your home cooking.
Santiago de Compostela has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is considered as one of the most beautiful urban areas in the world! We often recommend dedicating a whole day or two to exploring this fascinating city. Whether you are drawn in by history, nature, leisure or gastronomy, there are endless things for visitors to enjoy. The famous cathedral, Saint Sign of Santiago, must be visited, and afternoons are best for getting lost in the narrow streets and squares that make up its historic quarter with centuries of history and majestic buildings, many of them from medieval times.
The food market in Santiago is always a vibrant, lively scene, which masses of fresh produce from both the sea and the land beautifully displayed at the 300-odd stalls. Local favourites such as Tetilla cheese, cured meats, sausage, fruit and empanadas will line the stalls, perfect for picking up a picnic lunch or some ingredients for cooking back at the villa. Our favourite part of the afternoons has to be choosing an intimate wine bar and tasting the best the region has to offer!

About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesOffering two double bedrooms and one twin room, Casa Cambados Pueblo offers a fantastic set-up for families travelling with children. The enclosed private garden has space for little ones to run and play, whilst you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the roof terrace, keeping a quiet gaze on the turmoil they cause below! Local shops, restaurants and supermarkets are all within walking distance, making day to day tasks even easier for those with children. A cot and highchair can easily be provided along with the villa.
For the whole family, you can arrange a boat trip to the mystical Islas Cies from Vigo, snorkelling in quiet coves and exclaiming as you speed across the crystalline water. The nearby beaches are also fantastic for water sports and snorkelling, so you can stroll on down in the morning, popping back to the villa if you need any refreshments, towels, or extra comforts.
On your day trips to Santiago, there are several picturesque parks that are great fun for young children, as well as family activities. There are several kids’ playgrounds, some of which have been designed by leading architects, such as this one in The Metropolitan Park near the zoo, who said fun couldn’t also be educational! One of our favourites is the Mirador Parque da Alameda, a pretty park with gorgeous vistas over the city. Kids will adore feeding the swans, galivanting about in the playground, or attempting a workout on public exercise equipment. The park is located next to the old part of town, creating the perfect retreat all through the day, taking shade among the trees.
Of course, the Santiago Zoo is always a popular choice among kids; lions, tigers, snakes and all kinds of animals are available to view. There is also a funicular from the zoo to the top of Cerro San Cristobal. The funicular poses the perfect viewpoint to take in the city and provides plenty of fun for kids, a sight worth seeing during your stay.

We Would Love to Return
We have had a great time. The house was in accordance with what we had seen on the Web. We missed a little more shade in the garden although we already understand that it must be difficult. If next year we decide to go to Galicia we will contact you and we would surely return to the same house.
