This beachfront cottage is perfect for those who want a peaceful getaway in Galicia! With stunning ocean views from every bedroom and a rustic chic aesthetic, Cottage Liuvigild is entirely made from natural materials and has a really authentic feel to it. The exteriors are constructed completely from stone, while the interiors have exposed wooden beams and countryside-style furniture.

Outside, guests will find a private immersion pool, where they can enjoy the Spanish sunshine as they swim, surrounded by greenery. There are duck-egg blue deckchairs and a matching fence on one side. There is a barbecue where guests can rustle up a feast and an alfresco dining table.

Step inside the house to discover the living space, which has cosy sofas with lots of cushions, exposed stone walls and a traditional fireplace. It really is the perfect home away from home. This cottage would be lovely in the winter, where guests can take a bracing seaside walk and curl up with a hot chocolate in the evenings. The space is open-plan yet cosy and inviting.

There is a compact yet fully-equipped kitchen with a large fridge, oven and a coffee maker. Guests can also dine here around the table, which is like a kitchen island. There is a third dining space out on the terrace - a perfect spot to have some fresh fruit or a smoothie.

There are three charming bedrooms at this property. One is a suite with a shower in the room, while the other two rooms have a double bed and a single pull-out bed - perfect for the kids! All beds have crisp linen in white and grey with fluffy blankets and cushions. They have excellent views of the ocean and sweeping scenery. Polished wooden floors and dramatic wooden ceilings add to the traditional farmhouse style of the cottage.

One of the rooms has a window panel in the roof, ensuring lots of natural light, while another has a small writing desk. Curl up in an armchair by the window and enjoy the views, or lose yourself in a good book. In the suite, the single bed is around the corner in its area for extra privacy. There are good bathrooms here, with one room having a unique open-plan design with a vintage-style bathtub and shower in the room!

This cottage is situated near the town of Carballo, roughly 1 km from Razo Beach, with its endless golden sand and azure waves. The town is 10 km away, where you will find all the amenities you might require, like restaurants and shops for supplies. The area is part of the Costa de Morte of Galicia, which was once considered the end of the world for pilgrims on the famous Camino de Santiago trail. Make a pilgrimage of your own to Cabo Fistrerra, where there is a lovely lighthouse and fantastic sunset views.

Razo Beach is one of the most beautiful in the Costa de Morte area - it has a relaxing atmosphere, sand dunes and excellent surf conditions. Here, there are two surf schools where you can learn how to ride the waves. Popular yet still with an unspoilt coastline, this beach is perfect for a chilled afternoon!

There are several peaceful nature trails nearby where you can stroll near the coast. Alternatively, for a nature fix, head to Refugio de Verdes, a lush park with waterfalls and ruins.

Take a day trip to A Coruña, known as the Crystal City, thanks to its many 'galerias' - enclosed glass balconies that feature stained glass. The picturesque square of Maria Pita is in the centre of town, with great examples of Galician architecture and a bustling atmosphere. A great museum to visit is the Domus, which focuses on the human body - with over 200 interactive exhibits about genetics, humanity and evolution.

On Wednesdays and Saturdays, there is a great flea market where you can rummage for treasure to take home as a souvenir. The Estrella Brewery is a must-see for beer aficionados - either wander around the eight interactive exhibits solo or take a guided tour. Learn about the history and composition, as well as enjoy five samples and a complimentary draught beer.

Another famous landmark nearby is the Hercules Lighthouse, which boasts an amazing panoramic view of the Costa de Morte. Perched atop a rock at the entrance of A Coruña Harbour, this is the only functioning Roman lighthouse. As the sea here is so rough, ships crossing the Atlantic Ocean relied on the lighthouses all along the Galician coast.

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

This cottage is a charming, welcoming space for children of all ages. They can happily spend time making a splash in the plunge pool or relaxing on a deck chair - and the area of Carballo is great for families - tucked away yet just a short drive from lots of activities. Parents will be pleased to know this cottage is particularly well-suited to kids in terms of safety, and there is a crib available for babies.

Razo Beach is perfect for kids - enrol them in surfing lessons and watch them fall in love with the waves! They'll adore strolling along the beach and soaking up the relaxed atmosphere. Conveniently, the cottage is just a short drive from this beach.

For kids who love to stay active, take them to Urban Planet in Oleiros. There's a Kids Jump area with a room of trampolines to bounce on, Bubble Football - a unique concept where they can play football inside a plastic sphere - a foam pit and a climbing wall perfect for kids.

A great viewpoint over the Galician coast is Mirador San Pedro, which has a brilliant panoramic view over the peninsula. There's a spherical glass lift to reach the top - an interesting experience in itself - and at the top, there is a kids' playground, as well as cafes and restaurants to grab a quick bite with a view.

The Domus is also a fantastic rainy day activity for children of all ages, thanks to its interactive displays that make learning about the human body plenty of fun. There are also lots of games to take part in at this interesting museum and a Planetarium, where they can learn all about the stars, constellations and planets.

Aquarium Finisterrae is ideal for kids to gain an insight into the marine life of Galicia's waters. There are sharks and over 300 types of fish. Children will adore the Underwater Hall, a room submerged in water with scenes like Captain Nemo's habitat and the seal colony.
