Standing proud above the Eo estuary (or Ribadeo if you're Galician!), this magnificent 16th-century property has been carefully restored to create a wonderful setting to host unique events or relax with family and friends and enjoy the surrounding countryside of the beautiful Asturias region.
Once home to the Pardo de Donlebún family, Palacio de Figueras enjoys a secluded position, enclosed by landscaped gardens with glorious flower beds and tall leafy trees. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, the building offers a timeless beauty and has been brought back to life with ancient techniques and sensitive interventions that preserve the character and history of the property whilst creating a more modern interior layout. Comprising a central tower and two crenelated wings, the internal spaces have been well-designed with multiple living areas where guests can relax in comfort and enjoy the unique setting.
Arranged over three floors, the spacious rooms are elegantly decorated with beautiful wooden floors throughout and exposed timber beams. Large stone fireplaces echo the solid exterior walls, whilst stylish furniture offers a variety of comfortable spaces to relax with a book or share a drink with other guests. Enjoy the light that comes through the beautiful orangery, and look out onto the water and gardens.
There are 11 suites in total, each offering its own charming personality with large double beds and tastefully finished bathrooms. Two palatial suites offer a luxurious experience, with the master bedroom extending to over 100m2. Neutral-coloured furniture compliments the dark wood floors, whilst large windows bring in natural light and frame views out to the garden and grounds below. A central library area and living room break up the bedrooms, where guests can enjoy the common areas, whilst a terrace at one end of the first floor offers a lovely spot to sit outside and read or enjoy a coffee whilst looking over the surrounding hills.
A lovely garden area wraps around the property, with grass lawns and neatly maintained hedges offering a tranquil setting to enjoy a walk beneath the leafy trees or host an event and make the most of the special historical setting. The west side of the garden joins the marina and local fishermen's harbour, and the sloping landscape provides a wonderful view over the estuary below. Although we have placed this property in the Galician region please note that this villa is actually on the Asturias side of the border! Please bear this in mind when making travel plans and contact us if you need more information!

Location
About the surrounding area of Palacio de FiguerasSituated on the hillside of the charming coastal town of Figueras, Palacio de Figueras enjoys a central position with wonderful views across the surrounding landscape, over the rolling hills and down to the fishing boats that dot the estuary.
Although placed in the Galicia region, this property is actually on the border in Asturias and as such benefits from being located in the middle of two very beautiful regions. Make the most of being here and spend time in both regions!
A 20-minute walk from the property, the lovely Playa de Arnao is perfect for a swim, with its crescent of white sand and clear blue waters. Alternatively, hop in the car and explore the nearby coastline to discover the wild beaches and delightful little fishing villages. Just a 10-minute drive, Playa de Penarronda is a popular spot for surfers, where you can take a lesson or sit on the sand and watch the locals putting on a show. Taking its name from the elongated shell-shaped rock sitting in its centre, the beach has a unique beauty as well as a wonderful plant life that climbs up the dunes to the back of the sand.
The surrounding Asturias region is full of unspoiled countryside, with majestic mountains and wonderful valleys covered by dense forests and wonderful rivers that flow out to sea. Enjoy a gentle walk and discover the sublime scenery, or head to the Picos de Europa, where you can wander through the shaded groves packed with oak and beech trees or discover the impressive rock formations ingrained into the limestone mountains. There are a number of Information Centres where you can find out more about the area or find a trail and take a more challenging route to ascend to the peak and enjoy spectacular views.
Gijon is just over an hour by car, or take a day trip to the ancient capital city of Oviedo to uncover the delightful streets filled with historical monuments and churches. Visit the impressive Catedral de San Salvador and stop at the Camara Santa, a charming pre-Romanesque chapel dating back to the 8th century. Seek out some shade in the green oasis of Campo San Francisco, once a vegetable plot belonging to the San Francisco Convent or wander through the medieval quarter and enjoy its magical atmosphere. The Mercado El Fontán is filled with colourful stands, inviting you to stroll the rows of local produce and sample traditional Asturian specialities, such as regional cider or the popular cabrales – a blue-veined cheese made from a mixture of cow's, goat's and sheep's milk. There are a number of restaurants nearby where you can share plates of tapas or enjoy a hearty fish stew or a plate of fabada asturiana, a flavoursome dish made from white beans and Asturian sausage.

About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesWith its spacious layout and multiple living areas, there is plenty of space to enjoy Palacio de Figueras with all the family. Kids will love the garden, where they can play on the grass lawn or enjoy a game of hide and seek between the trees.
Located just a few minutes walk from the seafront and town centre, it is easy to pop along for an afternoon ice cream or sit on the harbour side and watch the pretty fishing boats return with their daily catch. What's more, Asturias is well known for its gloriously green landscape, which is a breathtaking tapestry of natural beauty and rugged charm. One of the highlights is exploring these stunning natural landscapes through hiking trails or cycling routes tailored for children. The region is also known for its adventure parks, where kids can engage in thrilling activities like zip-lining, tree-top courses, and rock climbing. For animal enthusiasts, Asturias boasts wildlife parks and sanctuaries, providing opportunities to observe and learn about local fauna.
With over 200 beaches stretching along the nearby coast, there is plenty of opportunity to spend the day beside the sea. Wander down to Playa de Arnao to enjoy a swim in the calm waters or build a sand castle on the shoreline. Alternatively, less the 10 minutes drive, Playa de Penarronda features a long stretch of sand, perfect for walking all year round, or try your hand at surfing and take a lesson at one of the numerous schools.
