About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Bajo Mino is a large villa with a spacious private garden which is great for a family holiday, the kids can have lots of fun checking out the views from the top balcony, running around and playing hide and seek in the garden and splashing about in the pool. There are a few restaurants around the villa and Baiona town is close by so it's easy to pop out to the shops if needed.
From the villa your closest beaches are Ladeira, Barbeira or Ribeira. These sandy beaches have calm water so there are suitable for the little ones to have a swim, there are also cafes and restaurants. If you are looking for an activity filled day at the beach then America beach is located at 12 kilometres from the villa. This sheltered beach has fine sand and calmer waters. There are lots of fun activities to enjoy such as kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, pedal boats hire and banana boat rides. During the summer there is also a large inflatable theme park in the sea with obstacles, climbing walls and slides. By the beach you will find a playground and plenty of places for food and drink.
If you are heading to Vigo for the day then the kids can have fun running around the old town's narrow streets and squares or exploring Monte O Castro's park, playground and fortress. For something a little different and a bit of fun competition head to La Nave del Paintball which offers paint balling for the older kids and laser tag for the little ones, there is also a games room available. In Vigo you will also find a zoo where kids will have a good time exploring and learning about all the different mammals, birds, reptiles, insects and fishes. There's plenty to see and the zoo has food and drink facilities on site, there is a picnic area and playground available too. Whether they are laughing at the cheeky meerkats, trying to find the hideout of the snakes or being amazed by the size of the bears they are sure to have a nice family day out to remember.

I would highly recommend a stay here!
The house is incredible, the photos do not do it justice. The view from every point from the garden to the top floor are breath taking. The location is also perfect within easy reach of the town of Baiona but far enough to feel remote and tranquil. The sound of the waves and the private access to the rocks made it extra special. The added touches such as the fresh bread delivered daily and a daily cleaning service made it feel like an extra special place to stay. Teresa, the host, was so friendly and incredibly helpful. We were a large family group with 3 generations staying together from 3-73 years old and it more than suited everyone. I would highly recommend a stay here!

Highly recommended
House is conveniently located on the ocean close to Baiona and provides an excellent base for exploring the area. Baiona is a 20-25 min stroll. Vigo, A Guarda, Tui, Valenca, Monte Aloia, etc. all a short drive away. About 1.5-2 hrs from Santiago de Compostela depending on traffic. Our large group included people ranging in age from 9 to over 85. The kids loved the pool and yard and would have been content just to stay at the house relaxing, swimming, reading, and playing games (they said their time at Baiona was their favorite part of the trip to Spain and Portugal). We all enjoyed the beautiful views from the terraces. The teenagers loved their early morning runs from the house to and around the Baiona fortress or the lighthouse in the other direction. The owners have done a fantastic job updating this charming, cozy old house while preserving its character. People with limited mobility please note the stairs in the house are pretty steep. There are 2 bedrooms and a bath accessible on the ground level which made this an ideal situation for our group. Also there are a couple areas to watch your head if you are very tall. Teresa was a welcoming host and made everything easy! Highly recommended.

Great house
We had an amazing holiday in Baiona where grandparents their children and spouses and their children all thoroughly enjoyed the space, ambiance and energy of a great house. A special thanks to Teresa who facilitated our holiday and made us feel so welcome. I cannot recommend this home from home highly enough.

We had a great vacation!
We had a gorgeous week in underrated Galicia at Baiona. The house has a gorgeous location - surrounded by the sea on 3 sides and facing into the stunning evening sunsets. It's so close to the sea you can walk out onto the rock pools (and look for crabs) and hear the surf whilst lying in bed. The house itself is very nice, well kept and clean, and in lovely gardens with a great pool. The area is fantastic and seemingly undiscovered beyond Spanish holiday-makers - suited us! Baiona is a great town and the seafood is wonderful. The beaches are great and the nearby islands could be in the Caribbean. Final thing - communication with the host Teresa was first-rate. Couldn't have been more helpful and responsive. Overall I would highly recommend this house and this company and this area - we had a great vacation!

Really a 5 star stay!
This house is absolutely incredible! Our group of six was more than comfortable! Monica kept the place sparkling clean and Teresa was quick to respond to anything we needed!!! Really a 5 star stay! The pictures don't lie, the home is incredible! We also appreciated the two bedrooms on the ground floor for those in our group that had trouble with stairs. We loved hearing the waves crashing all night!!

Great views of the sea, the islands and the sunset
Beautiful garden and position. The bedroom and bathroom arrangements were ideal for our party, with the lounge floor separating the two bedroom areas. The daily delivery of bread was great, as were the luxury bathroom products and linen. We alsotook advantage of the different sitting areas outside: there was always somewhere in the shade. We also liked the direct access to the shore and the rock pools.
