Areas, located east of Sanxenxo, is a serene retreat with a stunning beach just a 5-minute walk from the villa. Sanxenxo itself boasts Praia de Silgar, a lively, sandy beach stretching west from the marina, and Praia de Baltar further towards Portonovo. Popular among Galicians, Sanxenxo is well-maintained and offers excellent tourist amenities.

The Rias Baixas region features remarkable beaches like Praia das Rodas on the Cies Islands, renowned as one of Europe’s best. For a quieter escape, visit La Isla de Ons, part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park, offering diverse beach experiences and three seafood restaurants. In Vigo, don’t miss the renowned oysters from Rua da Ostras and local street stalls. Wine enthusiasts should explore Cambados for its albarino wines and charming 16th-century architecture. Combarro, with its picturesque stone houses and traditional horreos, and Pontevedra, known for its Renaissance and Gothic architecture, are also must-visit spots. Lastly, the Ermita de San Sebastian on Isla de la Toja and Santiago de Compostela’s Camino de Santiago offer additional cultural and historical experiences, with the latter famed for its stone architecture, cathedral, and delicious Galician seafood.

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

Villa Festinanzo is a wonderful choice for multi-generational family holidays or friends with children that want to holiday together. It is extremely spacious inside and out with various spaces ideal for children. The swimming pool will provide hours of entertainment and the beach is a 5 minute walk away. There is a delightful children’s bedroom in the villa with a set of bunk beds and a single bed. Such fun!

Praia de Areas is a fabulous sandy beach. Sanxenxo, close by, is family-friendly and offers many facilities. Its two beaches are very popular with good amenities. Elsewhere in the Rias Baixas, families can enjoy picnics by the river, river boat trips and river activities, hiking, horse riding or visiting other beaches.. Playa de la Lanzada is a fantastic, family-friendly beach with wide expanses of white sand, entertaining waves, surfing clubs and other water sports. You might want to research and book a surfing or kite surfing course. It is a perfect place to learn.

Children will enjoy fun days in Pontevedra, exploring the old town and eating a lot of tapas! The history is interesting and there is so much to do and see.

Reviews

  • Beautiful!

    on 23/05/2023

Lovely Villa Festinanzo was wonderful inside and out, really well stocked with everything you could need to stay. Pool was lovely, lit up at night and Ana was really helpful and accommodating and let us know things around the area which was great. Would definitely recommend!

  • Great house

    on 22/08/2022

The house and the garden around it are great. Very comfortable and well equipped. Also the decorations are original. Well done to the owners.

  • Really Beautiful!

    on 12/09/2019

The Villa Festinanzo is really beautiful, very well decorated, with very careful details that make it unique, without a doubt a wonderful place to rest and enjoy. Very close to the interesting places, we visited Soutomaior Castle and ate an excellent meal in As Estacas, it was undoubtedly a luxury weekend. María is an excellent hostess, we wish her luck in the future, although with this marvel of house, farm and town she will not need it, we will return, without a doubt

  • Simply Incredible!

    on 08/03/2019

If you're at the stage of comparing Villa Festinanzo with another property in Galicia, allow me to advise you to stop and book this one immediately! The house is gorgeous (the photos do not do it justice): beautifully furnished and with everything you could possibly need for a blissful holiday. My family of 4 (including 2 teenagers) did not want to leave after 3 weeks. There is huge amounts of room, the garden is vast, the pool refreshing and there are plenty of spaces to sit in the shade and eat/drink/read etc. The marquee made for some splendid lunches and board games with the upper area perfect for supper once the sun has moved around the house. If you enjoy cooking then you'll adore the kitchen and we certainly each loved having our own private bathrooms (yes, there are 4 fully-equipped bathrooms!). The views are astonishing and Galicia itself is glorious, absolutely ravishing in its beauty. The climate was most kind to us and there is so much to explore in the local area and indeed further a field. We spent a week in France after leaving Villa Festinanzo and found it extremely expensive compared to Galicia. Maria and her cousin could not have been better hosts; extremely friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. We all miss Casa de Medico and would not hesitate to return at any time of year. Our sincere thanks to Maria, The Newmans
