Overview
Sitting within a scenic rural settlement, this traditional Galician house offers a beautiful place to escape for a peaceful break, with a lovely garden and swimming pool to enjoy long sunny days with family and friends.
Located off a quiet country road, Villa Fragas has a typical regional appearance, with lovely stone walls dotted with timber framed windows and charming wooden shutters. A large garden spills out to the rear, where a grass lawn is surrounded by leafy trees and shrubs, giving a sense of total privacy. The outdoor pool is perfect for a swim, and during the summer months, you can recline in one of the nearby loungers and dry off beneath the sun. Several benches are arranged around the lawn, inviting you to rest in the shade with a book or sit around the outdoor dining table, enjoying leisurely meals in the fresh air or entertaining guests with a barbecue.
Arranged over three levels, the villa's interior has a traditional aesthetic, with exposed timber beams throughout and characterful furnishings that make the spaces warm and inviting. On the ground floor, an informal living area features a large sofa and impressive stone fireplace, perfect for spending a cosy night tucked up during the cooler months, whilst several other sitting areas throughout the villa offer guests plenty of space to spread out. A large kitchen is well-equipped for preparing meals throughout your stay, and there are various dining areas on the lower level, but why not head outside and share breakfast in the warmth of the morning sun?
Various staircases give access to the upper levels, where there are four bedrooms for guests to choose from. Whilst retaining their charm and traditional features, the rooms are well-presented with modern additions that ensure a comfortable stay. A fabulous main suite features a huge private bathroom with two showers and a lovely bathtub, perfect for an indulgence at the end of the day. Bright and airy, the suite has several windows, as well as double doors that open out onto a lovely balcony where you can sit with a coffee and look out over the garden. A second room with twin beds also features an ensuite and a dressing room, whilst the remaining rooms have access to shared bathrooms.
Composed of independent spaces, Villa Fragas has ample room for everyone and offers the perfect place to spend time as a family or retreat for a restful break and enjoy the peacefulness of the Galician countryside.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa FragasSituated on the edge of a charming hamlet, Villa Fragas enjoys a peaceful rural setting whilst being just a short drive from the region's beautiful beaches. Stretching for hundreds of miles, the rugged Galician coastline is littered with hidden inlets and picturesque bays, and there are plenty of opportunities nearby to enjoy an afternoon beside the sea.
A short drive away, Praia Da Alameda is a beautiful spot, and you can stroll along the quiet beach or enjoy a picnic on the sand. Due to its low tide, the beach is not great for swimming, but slightly further to the north, Praia Grande de Miño Beach is the perfect place to take a dip in the bracing Atlantic waters. Just outside the town, the long stretch of sand is suitable for all the family, and there is a beach bar to the rear where you can stop for a lunchtime snack and tasty ice cream.
Continue along the coast to discover the numerous coves, or head inland, following the estuary to the delightful town of Betanzos. With its charming medieval district and grand churches, the traditional settlement sits on the convergence of two rivers and was once one of the seven provincial capitals of the Kingdom of Galicia. You can wander the older quarter to see three of the remaining gates from the former town wall or head up one of the sloping streets to the Plaza Hermanos García Naveira to see several important monuments, as well as the beautiful Church and Convent of Santo Domingo, built atop a chapel in the 16th century. Stop for a drink in Plaza de la Constitución and admire the large balconies and arcades, or head to Callejón de la Tortilla, where you will find several bars dedicated to the sacred Tortilla dish.
A Coruna is just a 30-minute drive or head to the south and take a day to explore Santiago de Compostela. Initially constructed in 1075, the city's well-known Cathedral won't disappoint, and you can take a guided tour to learn about it’s origins and admire the impressive interior and mix of architectural styles. An adjoining museum divulges a history of the imposing building, whilst the nearby Galician Centre for Contemporary Art offers a more modern cultural experience.
Wander the old town’s cobbled streets to discover the traditional buildings' stone archways, or drink in one of the shaded squares and soak up the lively atmosphere. The city’s food market features row upon row of stalls selling fresh local produce to browse or sample or head to one of the neighbourhood tapas bars to enjoy a bite. Alternatively, Bodegón Os Concheiros is a great spot to try traditional local dishes, such as 'polba á feira’ (boiled octopus), or platters of roasted ham and Padrón peppers to share, whilst tucked along the Rua Nova, Bar La Tita serves the best homemade tortillas in the city.

About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesWith its spacious layout and beautiful garden, Villa Fragas is a great place to spend time with all the family. Kids can run around the lawn, play between the trees or spend hours splashing in and out of the swimming pool. The outdoor dining table and barbecue are perfect for sharing entertaining meals in the fresh air or during the cooler months, tuck up beside the fire and spend a cosy evening in with hot chocolate and a game of cards.
With Galicia's picturesque coastline just a 10-minute drive away, it is easy to spend the day beside the sea. There are plenty of charming bays nearby where kids can play on the fine white sand, or head down to A Coruña to find many Blue Flag beaches offering a range of water sports. The city has plenty of entertainment, and the whole family will enjoy a ride up the spherical elevator, where you can enjoy a spectacular view over the coast from the top of Praia Da Alameda. Alternatively, the Aquarium Finisterrae is great for rainy days, with more than 600 species to see and a fun program of interactive exhibits and activities to enjoy.
