Flying the family-friendly flag is five-bedroom Villa Galiza in Sanxenxo, Galicia, Spain. This modern villa boasts a large swimming pool and garden area, plus an on-site gym so you can keep up with your fitness routine while you’re away – or not, the choice is yours. The villa’s only a short 5-minute stroll from sandy Montalvo Beach, too, so you can work on that pool-to-beach routine instead.
When you step inside the villa, you’re greeted with an oasis of calm thanks to the soothing natural colour palatte. There’s a large living room with comfy sofas and a television for that home-from-home feel. From there, large doors lead straight to the garden and pool area. There’s also a fully-equipped kitchen, so a self-catering stay is a doddle at Villa Galiza, too.
The five bedrooms are all equally spacious and there are four bathrooms at this villa, too, so they’ll be no fighting over the shower in the morning. Location
About the surrounding area of Villa GalizaVilla Galiza is in the Spanish region of Sanzenxo in Pontevedra, Galicia. The region’s synonymous for its beautifully rugged coasts and thickly wooded countryside. You can eat some of the best seafood in Europe here, too – all washed down with a glass of delicious Albarino wine. Galicia is a hidden gem, and still remains largely off the typical tourist trail – compared to the likes of Barcelona the Costas – making it an ideal destination for a peaceful, and authentic Spanish, retreat.
Thanks to the villa’s beachside location, there’s plenty of opportunities to get involved with water sports like sea kayaking. Montalvo Beach boasts Blue Flag Status and has calm, bath-warm waters that are ideal for swimming and soft sands that are ideal for sunbathing.
In Pontevedra – known for its well-preserved old town and Gothic Santa María la Mayor Basilica, you can get your dose of culture. Snap pictures of the historic churches and charming squares here, before sampling local cuisine in one of the bars and restaurants. Fresh seafood like octopus, or other Galician specialties like Empanada Gallega – a large pie usually filled with meat – are a must taste.
The worth-exploring cities of Vilanova de Cerveira and Caminha are close by, too. You could also make tracks for Vigo, Porto or Tui. The latter is a Romanesque and gothic village that’s steeped in history. Take in the cathedral and churches there, before heading to the mountain of Aloia nearby. If you climb to the top, you’ll be rewarded with views of Vigo estuary and the Louro valley below.

About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThanks to its soft, grassy gardens, private swimming pool and games room – equipped with a pool table and football table – Villa Galiza is an ideal choice for families with children. The villa’s only a five-minute stroll from a Blue Flag Beach, too. There, kids can swim in the calm, bath-warm waters, make sandcastles with the white sands, or take part in waters sports like snorkelling, sea kayaking.
For fun family day trips, you can head into Pontevedra and explore the historic old town and pretty churches. Or, make tracks for other sight-packed places like Tui. At the latter, you can climb to the top of the mountain of Aloia for wow-worthy views of the Louro valley below.
You could also visit Dunas de Corrubedo – a natural park with a gigantic dune that kids can roll down to reach Playa do Vilar Beach. You could also hop on a boat to Illas Cies – a footprint-free group of islands off the coast of Vigo – where you can swim and scuba dive in the surrounding waters.

Great Place to Stay
Location is close to beach, with stores 10 Min away. House is absolutely lovely, the outdoor area provides privacy as well as a comfortable outdoor furniture to rest and relax. Great cooking facilities. You could not have a better place to spend a holiday.

Magnificent house! We'll be back
We have spent a few days in this magnificent house. It is a very spacious house, bright, comfortable and above all what we liked, apart from its garden, it has been its games room, We have enjoyed it very much thanks to its billiards and table football. We have coincided a great time and that has been in March; We have not been brave enough to enjoy the pool but we have enjoyed the sun.
Highly recommended for families or groups of friends. Patricia and her husband have been very attentive to us, they have recommended several places for dinner and they have hit 100%. The beach of Montalvo is very close to the house, we have been part of the road of Padre Sarmiento, to the beach of Major, the sunsets are incredible from this route.
We will soon return. We are looking forward to a good dip and we want to enjoy the beautiful beach of Montalvo! -
Excellent villa with top class facilities
Really enjoyed our stay at this villa. The villa is very modern with all the latest fixtures and fittings, and meant we had a fabulous stay. There is plenty of space in the villa both inside and out. The bedrooms were all good sizes, and the pool area was lovely. Plus a great games room downstairs when its too hot outside! The kitchen is well stocked as well, if you want to cook, with a good BBQ provided.
The location is good, in easy reach of the beach (5-10 mins walk), a local supermarket, the town of PortoNovo and the more bustling and cosmopolitan Sanxenxo. And the villa is very secure and safe.
Most important of all, the Villa owner Patricia was so helpful. She came to see us on our first day and show us the villa and the local area, and whenever we needed her help she was very responsive with help in ordering taxis and booking restaurants, even with help of us getting our daughter into the medical centre. A highly recommended rental!
