Overview
Five-bedroom Villa Lerez is a beautifully-restored, 200-year-old, school house in Galicia, Spain. Thanks to its original features and rural location, this family-friendly retreat exudes rustic charm. The villa is set between tree-lined forests and mountains near the Rias Baixas – the region’s four longest coastal inlets. Here, the mix of pretty villages, sandy beaches and top-notch eating options – especially the famous fresh seafood – make the destination a family holiday favourite.
Perfect for rest and relaxation, the villa is in a quiet and private location, surrounded by trees. It flaunts a big pool – lined with cushioned sun loungers – and has plenty of grassy spots for children to play on, or adults to sprawl out with their favourite holiday read. Throw in a terrace area with alfresco dining table and chairs, too, and you can see why Villa Lerez is high on our must-stay-at list.
Inside, the villa features exposed stone and brickwork for a traditional, farm-like feel. Don’t think it skimps on modern facilities, though. We’re talking a fully-equipped kitchen and comfy living and dining room. The villa is split into two sections and can sleep 12 guests. Split into the main house and a separate cottage, both have a kitchen and living facilities to work together or separately – making it ideal for families or groups of friends who are sharing.
To keep younger kids entertained, Villa Lerez flaunts a wooden playhouse with toys, books and games, too. There’s also a washing machine for a hassle-free holiday, plus two barbeques so you can cook up a storm in the warm Mediterranean sunshine – you can pick up your produce in Pontevedra.
Apart from its supermarkets, shops and restaurants, nearby Pontevedra also has a well-preserved old town that you can explore. Livelier Vigo and the quaint Albarino wine capital of Cambados are must visits, too, and can easily be reached from this villa. At the latter, you can book winery tours for sampling the region’s finest and learning about the local wine-making history.
What you should know…
- The nearest beach is about a 20-minute walk, or short drive, away. If you’d like to explore the local area more, we recommend that you hire a car
- The swimming pool is not fenced, so children must be supervised at all times
This home is a part of our Great Value and Heritage Collection!
This is a historic home, and as such:
- It has probably been standing for over 100 years, which means it's full of historic value and charm but it may also have one or two quirks!
- Some of the decor and furnishings may not be brand new, but that should not detract from your holiday experience in this unique setting that allows you to take a step back in time!

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa LerezVilla Lerez is in Pontevedra, Galicia. This relatively untouched gem is different to other Spanish hotspots like Barcelona and the Costas, thanks to its green valleys, rugged mountains and wild beaches. Think bagpipes playing and baroque cathedrals, too – so, you might feel more like you’re in Scotland than Spain. Top places to visit include Santiago de Compostela – the capital of Galicia.
The villa is 2km away from the nearest stretch of sand – River Beach – and is 20km from Pontevedra. The town’s renowned for its historic old town. Stand in the shadows of the churches and wander through the charming squares here, before sampling local cuisine in one of the bars and restaurants. Fresh seafood like octopus, or other Galician specialties like Empanada Gallega – a large pie usually filled with meat – are on the menu. Then, wash it down with a glass of Albarino wine.
More worth-exploring cities include Vilanova de Cerveira and Caminha. You could also make tracks for Vigo, Porto or Tui. The latter is a Romanesque and gothic village that’s steeped in history. Take in the cathedral and churches there, before heading to the mountain of Aloia nearby. If you climb to the top, you’ll be rewarded with views of Vigo estuary and the Louro valley below.

About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThanks to its wooden playhouse – equipped with books, toys and games – and private garden and swimming pool, Villa Lerez is a family-friendly gem. It’s about 2km from the nearest sandy beach and is 20km from Pontevedra town with is amenities, including shops, supermarkets and restaurants.
In Pontevedra, kids young and old can get clued up on the local history, exploring the historic old town and pretty churches. Or, make tracks for other sight-packed towns like Tui. At the latter, you can climb to the top of the mountain of Aloia for wow-worthy views of the Louro valley below.
You could also visit Dunas de Corrubedo – a natural park with a big sand dune that kids can roll down to reach Playa do Vilar Beach. Water lovers instead? Hop on a boat to Illas Cies – a footprint-free group of islands off the coast of Vigo. Here, you can swim and scuba dive in the surrounding waters.

A good place to spend a week with friends and forget about everything
A perfect house where you can spend good times and disconnect. It is full of beautiful routes around where to get lost in this paradise that is Galicia. The house is very complete, with 2 kitchens, they have everything. Washing machine, clotheslines, pool towels, all impeccable and very clean. The pool is a luxury in the middle of nature.

Perfect relaxing holiday
The photos of this holiday villa looked gorgeous, but the reality is even better! We flew from Dublin into Santiago and it was only just over an hours drive to reach A Lama. We were able to stop at a supermarket on the way in the nearby village. The owner was there to greet us and show us around, also to show us places of interest on the map. Also leaving us a bottle of very nice local wine! We loved everything about the villa, it is homely and cosy, the girls loved their pretty downstairs bedroom with en suit, and our upstairs bedroom was also very cosy. The gardens are so beautiful, private and tranquil! the girls were thrilled that there was no time limit on the swimming pool, and as the garden lights up and looks so magical after dark they often were swimming til late! We also enjoyed eating our meals at the lovely big table in the garden and chatting as the sun went down. My other favorite part was sitting on the balcony overlooking the courtyard and reading in the evening. It was also fantastic to have use of the washing machine, especially after adventurous days out nearby horse riding, kayaking, river beach and taking a ferry out to the Islands. There is so much to do in the gorgeous surrounding areas, then relaxing in the garden when we came home made this the perfect place for adults and teenagers, just perfect!

Superbly comfortable and charming with absolutely everything you need
This gorgeous house is not only oozing with character and charm, just outside a village with views over the valley, but is the most comfortable house I've stayed in on holiday. Everything you could want is there, as well as information on the area. Patricia was wonderfully welcoming and enthusiastic and eager to please. The house is decorated in quirky and artistic style- like staying in a friend's house rather than a holiday house.
The pool and garden are extensive and private. Photos don't do this property justice. You will be pleasantly surprised. -
Fantastic
We were two families from the U.S. who stayed here. Both groups loved this rental! House is amazing. Surrounding nature magical. Just so beautiful. Tons of things to do. Our two groups stayed for a week...but hated to leave. Can't wait to return!
Some highlights: swimming at the house (temperature in June was perfect), very cool Pontevedra (had really good food at Lauiera in Praza Lena), our kids playing with local kids in Ponte Caldelas (hide and seek and dodgeball don't require perfect language skills), creek walks near house, afternoon at river beach in Ponte Caldelas, ice cream and coffee at parador patio in Baiona.
Don't miss out! Reserve now and get a full refund if you change your mind within 48hrs.
