Overview
With a sublime modern twist on a luxurious old farmhouse, Villa Miniu is an unmissable delight for up to eight guests, located in a stunning area of Galicia, right on the Portuguese border!
This magnificent rural location is echoed in the traditional architecture of this Galician country home, with vaulted ceilings, exposed interior stone walls and highly polished, wooden flooring throughout. The living spaces within offer a majestic array of charming vintage furniture blended with contemporary comforts. Your immense kitchen perfectly demonstrates this, with a sleek and stylish design and all the latest mod cons, with a central island which doubles as a breakfast bar, built around the stone structure and artefacts of the property, with a large dining table for the whole group beside it. The lounge is a cosy space, with a large sofa and two plush seats in front of the television and fireplace to one end and a second dining table to the other. Elegant, original furniture and crockery adds to the rustic, historical beauty.
There are four sublime bedrooms, each vibrant and colourful, embodying the same fusion of traditional characteristics and more modern touches. The first three rooms are in the main building, while there is an additional en-suite bedroom in the magnificent annexe. Alongside the rooms are three excellent bathrooms. Each has a wonderful attention to detail, with colourful tiling, delicate wooden pieces and fantastic modern showers.
In this incredible garden you can enjoy an extensive lawn, lined with mature trees and a traditional stone wall across the perimeter of the grounds. An 8 by 4 m swimming pool for your exclusive pleasure will provide endless hours of fun in the sunshine for all the guests, while there is much to explore across the rest of the space! With a terrace and barbecue area for the full alfresco living experience.
In the surrounding area you will find quiet villages, small vineyards, rolling hills and even the river Miño which flows just meters from the house, and forms the border with Portugal!
What you should know…
- The Portuguese border is just metres from the house; don't venture in accidentally!
- Due to the fairly remote location, we recommend hiring a car throughout your stay
- Guests should be aware that there are large windows that open fully and contain largely-spaced bar, and similarly on the stairs in the villa, so be careful with kids!
- The swimming pool is not fenced, so children must be supervised at all times

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa MiniuJust moments from the Portuguese border and nestled amid in the rolling countryside of the far north-west of Spain, Villa Miniu is in the perfect location to enjoy a holiday of total calm and breath-taking natural beauty!
Perhaps literally a stone's throw to the south is the Portuguese border and the enchanting region of Minho, with a fascinating history and sublime natural landscape! It is a fantastic, largely rural region on the northernmost Atlantic tip of Portugal and shares many attributes with Galicia. Minho is perhaps most famous as the home of the Vinho Verde, a crisp, dry white wine (although as the name suggests, it is in fact green!) best enjoyed with a local fish dish.
Less than an hour away is the largest city in Galicia, Vigo, a cultural centre with a fascinating history, boasting stunning architecture, many regular markets and the beautiful Museo Municipal de Vigo. Nearby you can enjoy the breath-taking nature reserve of Islas Cíes with dazzling white-sand beaches and azure waters! Vigo-Peinador International Airport is 15 km from the centre of Vigo with several national flights and season-dependent flights to Paris, Brussels and London.
Meanwhile, just a few minutes further north is Pontevedra, a deeply historical and beautiful city which welcomes visitors to enjoy incredible sightseeing, a myriad of festivals throughout the year and tons of fabulous nearby beaches.
With a fully pedestrianised 300,000 square meter medieval centre, you can enjoy carefree wandering in Spain’s most accessible city! Local delights include wine served in a bowl in many of the smaller pubs on the backstreets, affordable octopus and all kids of treats including ‘queixo galego’ and ‘pan galego’ (local bread and cheeses) from the regular farmers' market by the river.
Within the city, the Museo Provincial de Pontevedra is considered to be one of the finest historical/archaeological museums in Spain, while the Rias Bajas (Rias Baixas) coastal region has flourishing coastlines, mountains, rivers, lakes and estuaries that ooze incredible natural beauty.
With a breath-taking coastline that meets the powerful Atlantic Ocean, Galicia is a paradise for beach holidays and nature lovers, as well as the keen surfer, or indeed even those looking to try it for the first time, with plenty of surfing schools all along the calmer sections of the coast.

About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesFamilies of all ages will adore a stay in Villa Miniu with its immense garden and huge private pool for the whole family to gather in! The interiors are incredibly spacious and open plan, so everyone can settle into their spot of choice whilst still maintaining conversation and laughter across the living spaces.
In the property grounds themselves you will find a fabulous private pool, offering a prime space for children to have fun and tire themselves out, while you look on from the comfort of a sun lounger, ensuring you have an opportunity to relax whilst keeping an eye on the little ones.
The local area perfectly lends itself to exploration – with natural parks aplenty, rolling landscapes that will capture the imagination of kids of all ages, and of course the fabulous beach not too far away! There are also tons of activities to enjoy in the local towns and the vibrant and unspoilt natural landscape of Galicia.

Highly recommended
Hi, we can thoroughly recommend Villa Arbo. The house has everything you need, with lots of space and a very stylish interior. The outside space is excellent with a lovely pool, and a table tennis table. It was great for our kids. The nearest townhas small supermarkets but there is a larger one just a bit further away over the border. Leopoldo the owner was very friendly and showed us around when we arrived. The area is quiet, surrounded by vineyards, and the local Albariño is excellent.

Hidden Gem!
A beautiful pearl hidden in an enchanted valley would be my best way to describe the house and the amazing experience we had at Casa Arbo! Leopoldo is a great host, shared the best tips of what to do and visit, helping to make our stay veryfruitful. The house delivered to our expectation, well equipped and maintained, with the pool always ready for a swim. We highly recommend for families or a group of friends to visit Casa Arbo, where they will for sure have an unforgettable time.

Beautiful House!
We had a wonderful two weeks holiday in this beautiful house with well kept pool and garden. The surroundings are also very beautiful with the river Miño close by and the opportunity to go swimming in it and in a rafting tour. We highly recommend this property and will certainly go back there. Galicia also is lovely and we were wondering whether we even prefer it to Tuscany.

An Amazing holiday
This was not just a holiday cottage but a beautiful home to live in. It is a wonderfully and well-done restauration of an old winemakers barn, combined with a surprising modern touch. Every bed- and bathroom has its own identity and especially the loft on top is superb. The owner took care of even the smallest detail.
