Whilst Villa Tis enjoys a tranquil, totally secluded setting, there are many nearby towns and sites to explore. Known as the ‘land of a thousand rivers’, Galicia has many secluded inland beaches and natural swimming holes to explore, and the rural surroundings are great for hiking, with a handful of trails leading off from the property with more challenging routes nearby.

Just 20 minutes away, the charming town of Caldas de Reis, next to the Umia River, is well-known for its hot springs. Experience the springs at Acuna Thermal Spa, built in the 19th century, where they offer several therapies and treatments where you can relax and take advantage of the high mineral content said to have many healing properties. Wander around the historic centre to discover the century-old garden and be inspired by the Romanesque architecture forming part of the Way of Saint James leading to Santiago de Compostela.

Reached in less than 30 minutes, you can explore Santiago’s stunning architecture and historic streets where pilgrims have met for centuries. The impressive Santiago de Compostela Cathedral was consecrated in 1211 and boasts numerous architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, Plateresque and Neoclassical. Uncover more about its history at the adjoining museum, or find a bit of contemporary culture in the Galician Centre for Contemporary Art. Make the most of the many restaurants and cafes, stop for lunch, and sample some delicious local cuisine. With its modest decor, Bodegón Os Concheiros is the perfect place for a taste of Galician classics such as polba á Feira (boiled octopus) or platters of roasted ham and Padrón peppers to share. For a more creative menu, check out O Dezaseis, where they put an imaginative twist on traditional dishes, serving delightful plates from market-fresh produce alongside a more conventional tapas menu.

Alternatively, take a trip down to the charming city of Pontevedra for a less touristic excursion. Positioned at the mouth of the Lerez River and surrounded by hills, you can explore the religious architecture and visit the Ruinas de San Domingos to see the remnants of the Dominican convent and church dating back to the 14th century. The covered market is a great place to browse local stalls and purchase traditional Galician produce. In the centre, the Praza de Ferreria is a lively square full of cafes and restaurants to sit in over a leisurely lunch and enjoy the daily bustle. The homely restaurant Santa Clara is an excellent choice for informal dining, with its traditional interior and delicious homemade cooking of casseroles and rice dishes.

The wonderful beaches of O Salnés are also very accessible. Vilagracía is the nearest spot, whilst just 45 minutes in the car takes you to the long golden sands Praia de Lanzada. Stroll along the lovely beach and dip your toes in the clear blue sea, or test your abilities on the waves by hiring a wetsuit and surfboard from the local surf school. With plenty of room to spread out and the convenience and public facilities, why not pack a picnic and enjoy a leisurely summer day by the sea with all your guests?

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

This villa is great for families and kids with its natural setting and large outdoor space. The grassy lawns and olive trees offer plenty of space to play and explore within the property boundaries, and the beautiful natural pool is perfect for hours of entertainment on long summer days. The variety of living spaces offers plenty of room for kids to enjoy their fun, making noise without disturbing parents, and the snug sofa area and TV are great for sticking on a movie at the end of the evening whilst the adults withdraw to the terrace for an undisturbed post dinner drink.

The surrounding landscape has lots to explore, and the coast is less than 45 minutes by car. Connected to the mainland by a carriageway spanning several hundred yards, the Isla de Arousa is a great place for a day out. Parcels of sand dot the island's perimeter, welcoming you to explore the secluded coves and the main beaches are well-maintained with public amenities and various cafes and restaurants for a leisurely lunch or afternoon ice cream in the shade. Alternatively, the long golden stretch of Praia de Lanzada is great for swimming, and the local surf school has boards and wetsuits for you to test your skills on the gentle waves.

For a land-based day out, the Galipark Multiaventura has a large collection of activities, including paintballing, climbing and various obstacle courses to suit all ages. Located less than half an hour to the north, it is a great spot to enjoy a day of entertainment for all the family.

  • Delightful stay!

    on 10/04/2023

The truth is that we were 7 families with children and we were delighted, the house was great, there was everything, the barbecue area was impressive, the rooms were amazing, the kitchens were amazing, the truth is that we give it a +10, we will repeat it again, the Host, Cristina, was very kind, and solved any questions we had. To add a drawback, the pillows were very soft, not in all the rooms but that is up to each person's taste.

  • Overall a great experience!

    on 11/07/2022

This house is Amazing! The location is fantastic, the view from the dining room is breath-taking and I believe the photos on the listing don’t even reflect the beauty. The house is spacious, clean and comfortable, with wonderful amenities. We enjoyed the pool and walking the grounds around it as there are very nice hiking trails next to the house. You will need a car if you stay here. Groceries and fuel are ~10 min drive away. It was close enough for us to visit Santiago, A Coruña, Combarro, Vigo and the coastal towns. Nothing was more than 1 hr drive away which was key to us as we were traveling with a baby. Raquel was a great host. Attentive and flexible, and addressed any minor issue we had. Overall a great experience!
