About the surrounding area of Es TalaiotEs Talaiot is located a few kilometers inland from Mallorca’s stunning northeast coast, in the historical town of Arta. Nestled at the foothills of Llevant Natural Park, Arta features winding streets, narrow alleys, and stone townhouses set in a large valley surrounded by mountains and scenic countryside.
Relatively untouched by mass tourism, the town offers traditional charm and tranquility. Dominating the area is the 14th-century fortress ‘Santuari de Sant Salvador,’ which provides panoramic views of the old town. Just outside Arta is the Bronze-Age Talaiotic settlement of Ses Passes, offering insight into the island’s rich history.
The town boasts local restaurants serving fresh, locally-sourced produce and charming pavement cafes for people-watching. On Tuesdays, the town comes alive with a bustling market known for pottery, basket weaving, and gourmet products, including cheeses, cold meats, and flowers.
A short drive (10km) brings you to Cala Ratjada, with Blue Flag beaches, lively nightlife, and plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants. For outdoor enthusiasts, the Llevant Peninsula Nature Reserve offers hiking, bird watching, and beautiful beaches, while Canyamel Golf provides a scenic and challenging course. THE REGION
The traditional town of Artá sits in the middle of a large valley at the foot of a small mountain in the northeast of Mallorca. The town rigorously clings to its heritage, making few concessions for tourism. The parish church, Transfiguracio del Senyor, dominates the largely pedestrianised centre and skyline of Artá.
Artá’s biggest attractions relate to the cultural heritage of the area. The most popular is undoubtedly the Sanctuary de Sant Salvador and the fortified battlements that surround it.
There are beaches within a short hike of town, and many who brave the walk say it’s just as beautiful as the beach itself. You are also within easy reach of the many attractions the northeast of the island has to offer, such as the Coves del Drac.

Best Suited For: All AgesEs Talaiot is an ideal family retreat, offering a serene interior and a secret pool, perfect for unwinding after exploring Mallorca’s stunning northeast region. The area is home to numerous family-friendly beaches. Cala Millor, with its Blue Flag status, offers a large sandy beach with water sports, a palm-lined promenade, and plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants. For a quieter option, Canyamel beach is a tranquil spot within a nature reserve, offering a safe, shallow shore perfect for children. Colonia De Sant Pere, with its small beach and traditional harbor, offers an authentic, peaceful experience.
A must-see for families is the Caves d’Arta, a magical underground cavern system filled with stalactites and stalagmites. Guided tours include a light and music show and a short hike, making it a fascinating experience for all ages.
Arta also offers the Greenway, a 29km cycling and walking trail linking nearby towns. Originally a railway, it’s now a flat, scenic route ideal for exploring the beautiful coast.
