Location
About the surrounding area of Can BanyaThe tranquil, hillside location of Can Banya, overlooking the stunning coast and close to the centre of the coastal village of Banyalbufar, makes for the perfect spot to live the ‘real’ Mallorca dream.
The town of Banyalbufar is famous for its magnificent views and fabulous landscape. Its ancient terraced hillsides grow oranges and tomatoes and descend down to the sea. There are some great local restaurants, and you can enjoy cellar-door wine tastings at the Bodega son Vives Winery. They produce wonderful wines, and the bodega also produces olive oil. This is a great excuse to try the wines grown from the native malvasia grape!
Cala Banyalbufar has a narrow beach in a beautiful bay surrounded by steep cliffs and mountains. Although the beach is rocky, the view is to die for and a great place to take a swim in turquoise waters; this is a paradise for divers and nature lovers. There are plenty of secret coves and towns to discover along the west coast, and a visit to nearby places such as Deia, an artist’s dream, and Valldemosa, a village steeped in old-world charm, offers a truly authentic experience.
There are some fantastic hikes in this region, and close to hand is the 2.5 hour Port des Canonge hike along a coastal path at the very edge of the majestic Serra de Tramuntana Mountains; you can enjoy breath-taking views and a wonderful assortment of scenery and stop off at a charming small village for local refreshments along the way.
Can Banya offer a great rural retreat, however, the glittering city of Palma is only 40-minute drive away. Dominated by the stunning 14th-century gothic Cathedral ‘La Seu’, overlooking the city and harbour, Palma has beautiful architecture, an array of chic boutiques and galleries and plenty of stylish cafes and bars to enjoy; there is a wonderful atmosphere that attracts artists, musicians along with rich and famous and this is a lovely place to enjoy a glass of Cava and a plate of tapas at one of the many pavement cafes, and simply people watch.
Mallorca also has an array of Championship golf courses, and the oldest course Golf Son Vida, is only eight miles away and is a legend among players from all over Europe.
Can Banya is a brilliant base to explore the west coast of Mallorca and experience a marvellous authentic taste of the island living away from the maddening crowds.

THE REGION
Surrounded by the towering peaks of the Tramuntana mountain range, this quaint Mallorcan district nestles among four smaller peaks, where scattered farms and vineyards scale the heights around the historic town centre.
As well as winding village streets and historic agricultural systems, there is the working fishing port of Es Port de Canonge and a number of coves and beaches for sunbathing and swimming. These include Cala Banyalbufar, Es Corral Fals and Son Bunyola.
For guests who enjoy a spot of retail therapy, Banyalbufar provides an assortment of high-quality shops, bars, and restaurants to help you make the most of your time during your stay. You can travel through the town’s shopping district, taking in its ancient textile industry, known for building world-renowned brands such as Barratts, Lotusse, and Camper. In fact, this area is best known for its plethora of local products, including artisan wines. Guests are encouraged to visit Son Vines Wine Cellar and Bar to test out their wide range of locally-sourced wines.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesKids are going to love living this Balearic dream. Can Banya is a charming hideaway and is a lovely calm relaxing retreat for kids to enjoy after plentiful sunny adventures.
The local beach of Cala Banyalbufar is spectacular but is a pebble beach, beautiful sandy beaches with family-friendly facilities are all within half an hour’s drive, and Soller is a wonderful option for a family day out.
The pretty little town has lovely local shops and a port with a beautiful large sandy bay which enjoys calm, clear waters. There is a large, lively promenade perfect for strolling, enjoying ice creams and picking up local trinkets. There are a lot of Spanish visitors, and there is a wonderful ‘local’ feel, the whole family will love this pretty seaside town.
The Palma to Soller wooden train is a very popular attraction and a wonderfully gentle way for the kids to explore both Palma and Soller. The one-way journey lasts around an hour departing from Plaza de Espana in Palma each morning (cash only tickets) and passes through 13 tunnels, goes over a 52-metre viaduct and rises to a height of nearly 200 metres and the scenery is beautiful, you can also to the reverse trip from Soller to Palma, for a change let the train take the strain!
There are loads to see and do in the capital Palma, and it only takes 40 minutes by car. The Palma Aquarium is a real gem housing an abundance of sea life and the deepest shark tank in Europe– don’t miss the turtles in the Mediterranean gardens; the kids will love them! The Aquarium also has play areas, a Pirates ship and fountains for the kids to enjoy.
Closer to hand a great family day out is to visit Esporles, a pretty little village with blonde stone houses on the south side of the Tramontane mountains. The main street of Esporles is lined with trees and has a wide pedestrianised promenade with cafes and restaurants, and there is a weekly Saturday market. There are quaint narrow lanes with spectacular views to explore, and on the road out of the village towards Banyalbufar, you will find La Granja, a museum in a 17th –century mansion dedicated to the history and traditions of Mallorca. The grounds are large and beautiful, and you will step back in time 400 years and see arts and crafts from this time along with artisans working with iron clay; the kids will gasp at the medieval torture chamber visit! There is a great terrace, restaurant and children’s play area.
