THE REGION
Pollensa, in the north of the island, is an ancient town of attractive narrow streets and an impressive main square, lined with cafés, restaurants and bars, and is just a few kilometres from Port de Pollensa.
The town has several places of interest to visit, including the Roman bridge, signposted ‘Pont Roma’, which is still in use, and the Puig de Pollensa – a small mountain topped by a monastery just outside the town. Here we provide all the information you want to know to make the most of this relaxed yet culturally satisfying inland town.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesPollensa also attracts a large number of children due to its expansive amount of alluring tourist attractions. Formentor Lighthouse is one of Pollensa’s most popular landmarks and can be found just under an hour away. This monument was first constructed in 1863 with the intention of guiding small fishing boats away from the collection of jagged rocks that sit at the base of the shores. Guests can also take the short drive toward the peak of the lighthouse and bask in the wide variety of panoramic views that surround them. Together with its picturesque views, Formentor Lighthouse is also well-known in many creative circles. Acclaimed writers such as Gerardo Diego and Blas de Otero have stated that this landmark was a key source of inspiration in their works, further emphasising its legacy within the region.
Puig de Maria is another iconic landmark with Pollensa and highlights the area’s far-reaching religious history. At the top of a very large hill sits an archaic 14th-century monastery that was first seen as a dedicated shrine to the Virgin Mary. Despite its long history, this monastery was forced to close in 1564 but was able to reopen in 1638, presenting the monument that we see today. Guests are allowed to travel inside and observe a vast collection of well-preserved artefacts and fixtures. Pug de Maria is located just under 10-minutes away, and according to previous guests, it only takes 30-minutes to hike to the top of the hill, making it a very accessible hike.
If you are looking to learn more about Pollensa’s rich art history, Pollensa Museum is an ideal way to do so. This museum was first built in the 16th century and was first used to store a selection of ornate Gothic altarpieces. These pieces quickly became key figures within the European art scene and even received a lot of praise at the prestigious Summer Exhibition of Painting during the 1960s. The museum finally opened its doors to the public in 1975 and has since become of the region’s most acclaimed attractions. Pollensa Museum is based just a short walk away from the centre of the region and is open Monday-Friday from 10 am till 2 pm. It should also be noted that this museum is also free to enter, making it an affordable attraction for a majority of guests.

Such an amazing place to be!
The garden and pool are a real paradise with many little spots to relax. The host was really kind. Unfortunately it was a bit noisy due to the street being nearby and used a lot. We would definitively come back. Thank you very much, muchas gracias!
