THE REGION
The quiet and idyllic resort of Binibeca is a very popular smaller resort on the beautiful south coast of Menorca and is a perfect choice for holidaymakers wanting to escape the noise and crowds of other more developed areas. You will not find any skyline-destroying hotels or large holiday complexes here, most accommodations being in private villas and apartments.
Today, Binibeca stretches 3 km along the coast and includes the original ‘Binibèquer Vell’, or an old portion, as well as the new portion of ‘Binibèquer Nou’- a natural progression with many of the homes and villas in keeping with the original design. At the very eastern point of Binibeca, you will also find Cala Torret, a small village which feels separate but is actually part of it.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesMenorca is a superb choice for families travelling with children of all ages. Kids will love how close the villa is to the beach, not to mention the jacuzzi on the roof! The villa is a comfortable, welcoming space for children to be and Binibeca beach is ideal for new swimmers as the bay is warm and shallow. They'll love walking along the silky white sand, exploring the nearby coves and trying out snorkelling.
If they're interested in animals, the Lloc de Menorca Zoo is just 10 minutes' drive from Mahon. The zoo has species native to the island and also from overseas. There are reptiles, fish and birds from all over the world, as well as an exciting Lemur Forest. There are several areas where children can hold animals and interact with them. Alternatively, a great way for kids to experience the island's flora and fauna is on the Jeep Safari.
Children will love exploring the harbour of Mahon, home to charming cafes and little souvenir shops. A boat trip from Mao harbour is a great activity for kids of all ages - some boats have glass bottoms, so kids can observe the colourful fish and other marine life under the sea.
Kids interested in horse riding will find Menorca an ideal place to try it out, as Menorquins is very fond of horses. Cantering around the path that winds around the island's coastline is something of a national pastime. The route is called Camide Cavalls, which means 'Way of the Horses'. The black Menorquin horse is indigenous to the island - mini riders can go on horseback trails, or take a pony ride at a stable nearby.
Aquaparks are a fail-safe way of entertaining kids of all ages - close to the villa is Splash Sur, the biggest on the island. This aqua park has something for all ages and swimming abilities. Thrillseekers can try out the black hole drop or the exciting Kamikaze ride, while younger kids can enjoy the dedicated shallow activity pool with water jets, fountains and mini slides. When the heavens open, head to an indoor play park or adventure playground. Botipark in Saint Luis has inflatables galore and great soft play for under-11s.
