THE REGION
The quiet and idyllic resort of Binibeca is a very popular smaller resort on the beautiful south coast of Menorca and is a perfect choice for holidaymakers wanting to escape the noise and crowds of other more developed areas. You will not find any skyline-destroying hotels or large holiday complexes here, most accommodations being in private villas and apartments.
Today, Binibeca stretches 3 km along the coast and includes the original ‘Binibèquer Vell’, or an old portion, as well as the new portion of ‘Binibèquer Nou’- a natural progression with many of the homes and villas in keeping with the original design. At the very eastern point of Binibeca, you will also find Cala Torret, a small village which feels separate but is actually part of it.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe island of Menorca has so much to offer kids of all ages, and the villa itself is bound to be very popular too, with its lovely pool and fantastic rooftop jacuzzi. There are plenty of spaces for kids to play and relax outdoors within the safe confines of the villa.
Of course, for many kids a summer holiday is all about the beach days, so the fact that Binibeca Beach is just 500m away is bound to come in handy. They'll love splashing around and building sandcastles from the fine white sand. Other beaches like Cala d'Algaiarens are family-friendly and have scenery bound to take their breath away. Snorkelling will be also great fun for kids, as is a one-hour boat trip from Mao harbour. Some boats have glass bottoms, so kids can observe the marine life and exotic fish beneath the sea.
Kids will have a great time at one of the island's water parks - close to the villa you will find the largest on the island, Splash Sur. There's something for everyone here - thrillseekers will love the Kamikaze ride or the black hole drop, while little ones can play in their own shallow activity pool, complete with water jets, fountains and mini slides. There's a pirate ship with water cannons and floating down the lazy river in a rubber ring will be great fun for the whole family.
Horse riding is a popular pastime for locals - the coastal path around the island is called Camide Cavalls, which means 'Way of the Horses'. Children can get an insight into riding on a horseback trail, visit the indigenous Menorquin horses or take a pony ride at a stables.
Adrenaline-loving kids will adore the adventure playground in Castillo Menorca - there are zip lines galore, a swimming pool and sand pits. Climbing frames and trampolines add to the indoor fun - and as the playground is located inside a shopping centre, adults can indulge in a little retail therapy while the kids have fun.
Just 10 minutes from the capital, Mahon is the Lloc de Menorca Zoo, which showcases species native to the island and also from overseas. There is a Lemur Forest and reptiles, fish and birds from all over the world. There are several areas where children can interact with and hold animals. Additionally, a fantastic way for kids to experience the island's flora and fauna is on the Jeep Safari, winding around the backroads with a local guide.
