Binibeca is a fabulous, laid-back holiday location with a pretty, cobbled town centre, delightful whitewashed houses and a fabulous three kilometre stretch of glistening silver sand. The stunning beach boasts a wonderful beach bar, shallow turquoise water and plenty of rocks making it great for snorkeling. Kayaks and electric fun boats are available to hire as well as sun beds, parasols and a popular ice cream stand. The dive centre is very popular, offering courses and equipment. Binibeca also enjoys tennis courts and a number of souvenir shops. Binibeca is separated into Binibeca Nou and Binibeca Vell, the appealing, traditional, flower adorned Menorcan fishing village. There are regular colour markets selling local produce. The atmospheric warren of cobbled streets is lined with unique boutiques selling leather goods and jewellery.

With a delightful authentic atmosphere, the popular town of Sant Luis is 5 kilometres away, roughly half way to Mahon. It boasts the excellent Binifadet wineries, quaint shops, inviting pastry shops, its whitewashed church, Eglesia de Sant Luis and a windmill. You can taste delicious wines as well as their famous wine jelly babies at the wineries. San Luis in an interesting town which was founded by the French in 1761 and built around its church. The Es Moli de Dalt windmill is fully restored and open to the public.

The attractive capital of Mahon is just 10 kilometres from the villa, a cool capital which fabulously merges beach and culture, doing the job since 1721. Mahon is an attractive city, paved with historic remnants and beautifully kept, renovated churches. Close to the Placa Espanya you will discover the pretty 18th century Gothic Carme church. The 18th century Xoriguer Gin Distillery is worth a visit and there are many independant shops selling leather, pottery and clothes. You should try a refreshing pomada cocktail in one of the trendy bars. The early morning fish market is fascinating to walk through with its huge array of colourful fish. Mahon loves its shopping and its nightlife. You will be spoilt for bars and clubs. Mahon’s beach scene starts ten minutes drive north at Mesquida, a beautiful unspoilt cove. Five minutes from there is the gorgeous dune-backed Es Grau and southbound is the stunning Blue Flag beach, Punta Prima.

At the southernmost point of Menorca, between Binibeca and Punta Prima, you will find Son Ganxo. It was originally a small fishing village but has now grown into a charming hamlet with fabulous coastal views over to the little island of Isla Del Aire with its lighthouse. It has a delightful cove where you can dive and swim from the rocks and swimming platform. Punta Prima is just minutes away with its breathtaking beach.

The island’s former capital is Ciutadella, Menorca’s second city. It is a wonderful 45 minute drive away, passing Alaoir, famous for its shoes and cheese and Es Mercadal, the gateway to Monte Toro, Menorca’s highest peak. Ciutadella boasts a picturesque port and an engaging old quarter lined with grand, gold-tinged buildings. The medieval streets are brimming with palaces, churches and fortresses including its Gothic cathedral. There are also wonderful restaurants and bars. Placa d’es Born is one of the most picturesque squares in Ciutadella. Waterside dining can be found at the port. If you get there early enough you can watch the fishermen bringing in the local catch of the day. You can also catch a ferry from here to Alcudia in Mallorca. Ciutadella celebrates its local festival on 23 and 24 June each year. The party is one of the most spectacular festivals in Menorca so if you happen to be in Menorca then, you really shouldn’t miss it.

THE REGION

The quiet and idyllic resort of Binibeca is a very popular smaller resort on the beautiful south coast of Menorca and is a perfect choice for holidaymakers wanting to escape the noise and crowds of other more developed areas. You will not find any skyline-destroying hotels or large holiday complexes here, most accommodations being in private villas and apartments.

Today, Binibeca stretches 3 km along the coast and includes the original ‘Binibèquer Vell’, or an old portion, as well as the new portion of ‘Binibèquer Nou’- a natural progression with many of the homes and villas in keeping with the original design. At the very eastern point of Binibeca, you will also find Cala Torret, a small village which feels separate but is actually part of it.

Younger children are very happy in the water playground. The famous Isla Del Aire is a small island with a lighthouse and small harbour for yachts. It is very popular for swimming, sailing and scuba diving.

The fabulous waterpark, Splash Sur Menorca, is just minutes from the villa. It boasts exciting aquatic attractions for the whole family including thrilling slides, pools, a lazy river, a water playground and much more.

Menorca’s zoo has a range of native species from the island and exotic animals from all over the world and is a good afternoon out. It features several walks through landscaped enclosures where animals roam free and small children can see easily.

Aquapark Los Delfines is another water park with wet and dry fun.

Horse riding is popular in Menorca. Its ancient bridle path follows the coastline for 185 km around the island so horse riding is a fantastic way to discover the island. There are some short sections of path that are ideal for children. You will often see the sleek black native Menorquin horses being ridden around the island or performing during fiestas. Son Angel Riding Stables run horse-back tours with some shorter routes suitable for beginners and children as young as four years old. Most of the riding stables on the island offer short pony rides for kids.

  • Perfect for a family stay!

    on 28/02/2024

A lovely, spacious villa perfect for a family stay. We travelled in October with our baby and a real highlight was the outdoor patio and pool area which was super spacious and great for alfresco dining. The local villa manager was really helpful too and on hand for any questions at all. Location wise it was perfect – a 5-minute stroll to Binibeca village. Go to Bambu Menorca (advise booking in advance) we went twice and loved – delicious food, cocktails and stunning sunsets. Also recommend driving 10 minutes to Cala Alcaufar which was a great calm swimming cove with crystal clear waters.
