Prepare to be wowed with a stay at the newly built sleek Villa Ceyda. Located in the village of Ovacik with impressive Taurus mountain scenery, the villa is situated between the town of Fethiye and the seaside paradise of Olu Deniz. Get back to nature in this four bedroom, four bathroom luxury villa, built over three storeys from local stone. The villa has its own private parking space, comes with complimentary Wi-Fi and air-conditioning throughout, and includes daily maintenance of the pool and grounds. Beautifully designed, the rooms are generous in size, floor to ceiling sliding doors flood the house with natural light, and offer stunning views of the Taurus mountains. Villa Ceyda is furnished with locally crafted wooden furniture, and decorated in natural earth tones, with splashes of primary colour highlights. The villa is surrounded by stone walls and green fencing to give a sense of seclusion and privacy, for that get away from it all and escape to the country holiday feeling.

The ground floor embraces contemporary open plan living, with a huge, light and airy space with floor to ceiling sliding doors giving access to the inviting pool terrace. The seating area has two large comfy cream sofas, coffee tables, and a rather funky shelving unit that hosts a flat screen satellite channel LVD television. The adjacent dining area has a white table and six chairs, two blue armchairs, and a pool view, perfect for some indoor entertaining. The well-equipped white and stainless steel kitchen has all the mod cons you will need for your stay, including an American style family-size fridge-freezer, and the obligatory morning coffee maker.

Take the marble staircase to the first floor where you will find two large double bedrooms, one trimmed with orange detail the other with yellow. Both bedrooms have large double beds, satellite LCD-TVs, fitted wardrobes, side and dressing tables, and ensuite modern bathrooms. The bathrooms have big jacuzzi baths with a view of the mountains, walk-in showers, single wash basins, and a WC. Best of all they both have furnished balconies with stunning mountain views, imagine breathing in that fresh air in the morning, as you sip your coffee and decide what you are going to do today. The third floor has two twin bedded rooms, one dressed with orange accessories, the other with yellow. The twin beds can be made into a double if preferred. The sloping ceiling bedrooms both have LCD-TVs, wardrobes, dressing and side tables, and ensuite shower rooms, as well as their own wrought iron balconies with mountain views.

We can guarantee you will be spending most of your time outdoors, the pool terrace of Villa Ceyda is another living space in itself. The inviting step-entry swimming pool is an impressive 10m x 4m, you can get in a few lengths before breakfast. Relax after a swim in the in-built pool jacuzzi. And for your little ones there’s a children’s pool too. The pool is surrounded by forest green cushioned sunbeds with shady parasols, a swish hammock in which to swing the day away, colourful bean bag cushions, and a mustard yellow soft seating area under a pergola where you can enjoy a cocktail or two at sunset. There is an octagonal wooden table to seat eight guests, and a built-in BBQ to cook up some of the local produce, then dine alfresco under the twinkling stars. You won’t want to leave!

Villa Ceyda is nestled in the village of Ovacik overlooking the Taurus mountains, a forty-five minute drive from Dalaman international airport, and is located between the bustling town of Fethiye, and the tourist destinations of Hisaronu and Olu Deniz, both just fifteen minutes away. Hisaronu is a haven of supermarkets, cafes, bars, and restaurants and some super souvenir shops too. Take a short trip to Olu Deniz, where you will find one of the world’s best golden sandy beaches, the iconic and much photographed blue lagoon and spit, lively seashore restaurants and bars, and exclusive shops. From here you can hop aboard a water taxi to Butterfly Valley, or alternatively cross the sea to Gemile Island aka Aya Nikola, a natural protected area, that is now an open-air museum. For the thrill seekers, head up the hill and take the cable car to the top of Mount Babadag, at almost two thousand metres you can jump off and paraglide solo or in tandem and land on Olu Deniz beach. For shopping and the city Fethiye is your destination. Fethiye is a smart harbour town with yachts moored the length of the coastline, home to an ancient amphitheatre, historical museum and rock tombs, and an embarkation point for the must-do Twelve Island boat trip. There is a foodie-heaven fish market for a catch of the day fabulous feast, super souvenir shops selling all of your favourite designer brands, and a renowned large local market every Tuesday. A walk around the newly paved coastline will take you to the town and beach of Calis, home to more restaurants and bars, and a local market.

If it’s history you are after, you’ve come to the right place, hike the Lycian Way and take a trip through time. Trace the past with trips to Xanthos, the ancient capital of Lycia, and home to the oldest republic in the world, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, discover mosaics, amphitheatres, agoras, and an acropolis. Walk the ancient ruins of Patara, the birthplace of St Nicholas, better known as Santa Claus, and lose yourself on its twenty kilometre sandy beach, and also home to the famous Turkish hatching turtles. Explore the rock tombs of Tlos, carved into the façade of the ancient city ruins, where you will find a necropolis, Roman baths, and an Ottoman Basilica. Head for Letoon to see the mosaic of the goddess Leto, as you wander through the Temple of Apollo. Whilst the honeycomb cliffs of Pinara hosts nine hundred rock tombs and a theatre in verdant setting. In Fethiye you will find ancient sites dating back to two hundred years BC, the Lycian city of Telmessos, and the rock tombs of Amyntas, as well as sarcophagi, and a theatre immediately opposite the harbour, built to hold six thousand spectators, climb to the top for some fabulous sea views. Bring all of this together in the Fethiye Archeological Museum, full of local history, culture, and ephemera, most notably the Trilingual Stele, excavated at Letoon and inscribed with the languages of Lycia, Ancient Greek and Aramaic.

Fethiye

Situated on the ancient city of Telmessos, Fethiye is named after one of its most famous ‘sons’, the aviator Fethi Bey. An earthquake in 1957 damaged central Fethiye, so many of its buildings have been built since then. You can, however, see a Lycian theatre, Lycian tombs (including the rock tomb of Amyntas) and visit the Fethiye museum for more history and artefacts. The centre of Fethiye boasts a covered market area, half of which is given over to the local fish market where you can choose your catch from one of the centre stalls and then get it cooked in any of the surrounding restaurants. The whole of the area is shadowed by the mountain of Babadag where paragliders take to the skies, landing on the beach at Olu Deniz.

Fethiye’s Tuesday market is worth a visit. Traders come from the outlying villages to sell the wares from their smallholdings. Furrowed browed men with cloth caps, and ladies in floral bloomers will sell their produce amongst the lads trying to get you to buy their designer fakes! It’s all in good humour. Try a little bartering and see if you can do some good business. Go to the spice stall and you will get some amazing spices. Look for the Kar Serbeti, like a cinnamon slush or Ayran, a salty yoghurt drink both guaranteed to cool you down.

Olu Deniz & Calis are where people tend to flock for a beach but there are now a few private beach clubs along the coast between Olu Deniz and Fethiye which are worth a visit. There are also beach clubs situated around the lagoon, all with sunbeds, restaurants and drinks service. Hisaronu is more commercialised and hosts a large selection of bars, restaurants and gift shops.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

There’s so much for kids to do in and around the area. Splash and play in the villa’s huge private pool, there’s no set hours when it’s your own, and for your younger kids there is a children’s pool too. Both of the twin rooms have satellite channel flat screen LCD-TVs, there’s sure to be a channel to keep them amused in the cooler months and evenings.

Nearby is the Orka World theme park, recently opened in 2020, where all the family can enjoy a world of water with lots of slides, splash and play pools, a long lazy river, the adrenaline fuelled Rocket, spectacular shows, and cafes and bars. Get your bucket and spade and build sandcastles on the nearby golden sandy beaches of Olu Deniz, with lots of fabulous beach clubs, that give easy access into the calm clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea and offer a whole host family-friendly watersport activities. From Olu Deniz take the boat to Butterfly Valley, hop aboard the water taxi and identify over eighty species of butterflies, as well as other local flora and fauna, late May and June are the best months for maximum spotting. All aboard one of the many boat trips from Fethiye harbour, a family favourite is the Twelve Island trip, or if you are feeling flush charter your own private yacht for a fabulous lazy day at sea.

For the dare devils jumping off of Babadag Mountain and paragliding down to Olu Deniz beach is the ultimate thrill, for those not so brave it’s almost as much fun to ride the cable car up the mountain, admire the scenery, and take tea at the top. If under the water is more your thing, there’s the opportunity to snorkel or scuba dive, take a PADI diving course, and discover the delights of a different world. There’s a whole host of organised day trips to take to unique and unusual places. Don’t miss a visit to Saklikent Gorge, have fun walking down a fast-flowing river to a cooling waterfall. Discover Dalyan, where you can wallow in mud baths, then sail down the river past ancient rock tombs to Iztuzu, the famous turtle nesting beach. Get on your horse and ride it at the local pony trekking club. Hire quad bikes and go off-road driving.  Ride the sand dunes and join a jeep safari where you can motor around Mugla, see ancient sites, traditional villages, and local flora and fauna.

No stay in Ovacik is complete without a day exploring the local ghost village called Kayakoy, once home to both Greek and Turkish families, it was abandoned in 1922, and is now an open-air museum of the ruins of three hundred homes and two churches and a chapel. Exercise those little legs with a walk along the Lycian Way, the whole trail would take months to complete, but a short well-worn path will give a flavour of the original Turkey. For those after more adventure white water rafting over thirteen cascading kilometres of the Dalaman River may be just the thing for your older kids. After all of that they might be a bit dirty – don’t worry the whole family can enjoy a traditional Turkish bath, get clean with some serious scrubbing and a lot of bubbles, and maybe a mini massage too in one of the local hammams.
