Islamlar
Islamlar sits 8 km above Kalkan. Once the place Kalkan folk went to cool off at one of the trout farms built to make use of the mountain’s springs. Today Islamlar houses many a villa, enjoyed by Istanbul Turks who prefer a holiday in slightly cooler and cleaner air. Here the locals grow grapes and pomegranates, but you’ll mainly see the men sat gossiping next to the local teahouse. The trout farms remain a place to come for a wonderful fresh meal, or a breakfast consisting of fresh local fare. The rocket will be the freshest & most tasty you’ve ever had; and the fresh chips cooked in olive oil take some beating.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesChildren of all ages will delight at this sleek and modern home. With its airy proportions, this is an ideal space for the family to come together and reconnect. Here in Islamlar you are away from the crowds and strains of modern life. Children will love the novelty of alfresco dining and will be able to spend hours perfecting their swimming skills in the pool. When they are bored with all the villa offers the village will have lots to intrigue them. Turks love children, and they will be welcomed with a smile where ever you go. Make sure you get a peek at the village flour mill with its huge grinding stone, the trout pools and you'll be welcomed to visit the mosque too.
In Kalkan town, youngsters can take advantage of an array of watersports including scuba diving and snorkelling. There are also lovely family-friendly beach clubs that have calm waters and soft sands. Popular beaches are Kaputas Beach and Patara Beach. Islamlar is surrounded by many historical sites with intriguing ruins, promising a great day out for the kids.
Families can enjoy wonderful excursions quad-biking in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains or canoeing on the Xanthos River. Kalkan harbour offers an array of family-friendly restaurants.

Owner Profile
Property Name:
Villa Mavi, Islamlar, Turkey
Property Owners:
John and Katy Halestrap
How long have you owned the property?
We built it, John fell in love with the site and bought, half a mountain, as you do.
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The peace, the views, the fact it is isolated but so close to town. It has a really special feeling difficult to convey in words. Feels so peaceful.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
It’s very near the Lycian way, so walking is amazing. The ancient aqueduct passes nearby and used to feed Patara city. The amazing ruins are pretty well intact a few miles away. Islamlar used to be a Greek village until the Greek resettlement and was called Bodamya.
Do you have a favourite room in the property?
Difficult to say, love the main downstairs area. It is a second home and our guests enjoy the fact it isn’t soulless and is full of character. Personally I love the outside space, having coffee or cocktails on the terrace looking down at the views.
For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
...Really do?
- Walking on Lycian way
- Shopping and eating in Kalkan
- Boat trips
- Sakilkent gorge, walk the gorge and enjoy a pancake on the floating rafts or even take a inflated tyre thing down the river, although it is very cold, it is really good fun.
- Brilliant beach clubs, with great food
... Really see?
- Patara ancient city and the Patara beach 17km of unspoilt coastline, with turtles.
- Xanthos, beautiful ancient site with a sad storyKekova to see the sunken city is a must, so outstandingly beautiful.
- Kas a local town with an amazing drive
- Take a trip over to the Greek Island of Castellorizo see the blue cave and have lunch on the quay, this is a firm favourite of ours.Food wise, there is something for every taste and budget, the standard has improved vastly over the years. Would recommend booking a table at Mahal beach club in the evening, right on the water, and have fabulous food and watch the turtles swim by.
... Really Eat?
- Down by the harbour there are lots of restaurants to choose from and afterwards something for all ages, we like Mohitos for a bit of club type music and drinks, but if you want to party then there are a few really lively bars, which are safe for younger guests, I haven’t heard of any problems with this so far.
- Locally there are trout and meze restaurants but they are very basic, very friendly and welcoming, a real flavour of authentic non tourist Turkey.
- The local Kalkan greengrocer is incredible if you like to cook
- Some reasonable Turkish wines but if you are a wine critic probably not
- Meze is amazing there, and generally that’s all I eat. But grilled meat and fabulous sea bass are a must.
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
- Well think I’ve covered it above. Take music, lots of books and chill.

Stunning Villa
When you arrive at Villa Sahin you know you are arriving somewhere exclusive. The long private drive to the front door makes your arrival feel very special. Once inside the villa you can appreciate the stunning interior. The owners obviously have great taste in combining interesting colours with exceptionally wonderful pieces of artwork. It feels spacious and airy and offers everything you could want regarding interior seating areas and dining facilities. As a family, we have rarely eaten or sat indoors as the jewel in the crown is the outdoor facilities and the spectacular view. The owners have thought of everything. There are plenty of comfortable loungers and a wonderful seating/dining area to appreciate the view for many hours!
The bedrooms are all comfortable and again, offer guests everything they would require when on holiday. Villa Sahin has the added bonus of offering a bedroom on the top floor with an amazing outside terrace. All the outside areas are very private, another bonus.
Kalkan is a short taxi drive away and is a delightful town. It’s an historical town offering very good examples of Ottoman Greek architecture. The choices of restaurants are extensive and the food is of a high quality.
We have been going to Villa Sahin for several years and each year the owners have improved it, either repainting it or upgrading the furniture. We have travelled extensively over the years but we have never experienced such a beautifully equipped villa in such a stunning area which is why we return year after year.

Peaceful getaway
We stayed at Villa Sahin in 2021. We really needed some peaceful downtime and Villa Sahin proved that and more. The Villa is beautifully decorated throughout and is spotlessly clean and tidy. A lot of thought has been put into its decoration to make it feel like home. The garden is stunning with olive trees and plants scattered throughout the grounds. It has three charming patio areas and a breath taking view across Kalkan. The pool is clear and inviting and I swam every day we were there. I can’t recommend Villa Sahin enough and I look forward to our return..

Fantastic!
What an amazing experience staying at Villa Sahin. Situated in a stunning location high above Kalkan which is only 15mins away, this is the perfect property and location for a group/family to find balance between the hub of Kalkan and the tranquillity of the villa. With a large pool and multiple terracing including a secret roof deck, this villa has it all and provides huge amounts of space to accommodate large families. Completely air conditioned with wonderful kitchen and very comfortable bedrooms, it felt like home from home. We would highly recommend staying in this fantastic villa for those looking for an authentic Kalkan experience with its close proximity to a small village and multiple restaurants.

The villa is amazing!
So much space inside and out, from top of the house yoga areas and chill out zone, ground floor lounge with amazing art and sofas, to outside relaxation areas and pool. Most importantly the views are outstanding and natural Turkish beauty. The villa is so well appointed you will want for nothing. Close to shops supermarkets and restaurants. Can't wait for my next visit.
