Villa Arzu is a fantastic villa, perfect for large groups of friends, multi-generational families or perhaps even three families. It enjoys a slightly unusual set up with separate entrances to each of its three levels and fantastic living spaces on each level. Guests enjoy superb outdoor space with a beautifully landscaped lower level garden, terrace and swimming pool, balconies and a sublime roof terrace with a plunge pool and top-of-the-range furnishings. Villa Arzu is new to the holiday market and offers sumptuous, stylish furnishings throughout, excellent kitchens and seven lavish bedrooms in total.
This dreamy, elegant villa enjoys the very best of positions within five minutes walk of the utterly charming old town centre of Kalkan. Every evening you can take a leisurely stroll to dine in one of its rooftop restaurants and wander along its narrow cobbled streets buying jewellery, clothes or souvenirs. Kalkan’s hilly streets are sprinkled with gorgeous boutiques, whitewashed houses, bougainvillea decorated courtyards, bars and restaurants. Kalkan is the perfect destination for sun and food lovers. Gastronomic cuisine is offered from the town’s three hundred and fifty plus restaurants, some tucked away on secret corners, some hidden away in pretty warrens and some high up on rooftops where you can enjoy sensational sea views. All of the restaurants offer amazing hospitality, charm and fantastic menus with cocktails and wine lists to match. Although Villa Arzu offers three exceptional kitchens, you may want to keep those for breakfasts!
When you arrive at Villa Arzu, you take steps down from the street level to enter the lower level and the beautiful garden and pool terrace. On this level you will find a very light and airy open plan living space, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. One of the spacious bedrooms offers a beautifully dressed, sumptuous, upholstered double bed, an ensuite shower room and sliding doors which lead to the terrace, garden and pool. The second bedroom is equally elegant in neutral tones and also offers a comfy double bed where you will enjoy the sleep of kings in crisp linens. It boasts floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors to a private, beautifully furnished terrace and the villa’s pretty garden. The final accommodation is arranged over two floors with another spectacular open plan living space, three bedrooms, a sun terrace with a gorgeous plunge pool and incredible sea views. The entrance is accessed via steps from the road and a small garden area. Beautiful, colour pop furnishings sit in the open plan living space together with a dining table and chairs, a huge Smart television and a stylish, contemporary kitchen. Location
About the surrounding area of Villa ArzuVilla Arzu is in an enviable position in Kalkan, close enough to walk to all the restaurants, many literally, 'just around the corner' but in a quiet residential area.
The enchanting, pretty town of Kalkan is one of the most beautiful on Turkey’s gorgeous Lycian Coast. Kalkan remains an unspoiled, heavenly destination brimming with nature, historic architecture, bougainvillea-draped streets, rooftop restaurants and brilliant blue, crystal clear sea. Plenty of colourful boats, traditional gulets and luxury yachts are moored in the busy harbour. The town enjoys many bathing platforms and many Ottoman-Greek buildings set up as chic boutiques and gift shops. Visitors enjoy buying textiles, clothes, ‘designer’ handbags and very pretty jewellery from the unique shops. Visitors peruse the restaurant’s menus for tasty Turkish mezes, zesty salads and fresh fish. There are also a number of chill-out beach clubs with bars and bathing platforms. The yacht club is excellent for sunset cocktails. Just up the hill are the fabulous trout farms of Islamar where you can enjoy delicious dinners. Springs were diverted from the mountains into Islamar which led to a thriving trout farming industry. Not only will you be served delicious fresh fish, the views from the restaurant terraces are sensational.
Boat trips can be taken from Kalkan harbour on traditional gulets or other boats. The gulet trips are wonderful and usually come with a traditional meal. Visitors enjoy exploring the local bays, beaches and sea caves while others go further to Kekova, one of the most beautiful areas of the Turkish coast. Other popular excursions include those to the village of Ucaoyz and glass-bottom boat trips, all of which include swim stops. There are also romantic moonlight cruises and sunset trips. Thrillseekers can be taken to the top of the mountains to paraglide over the coast. There are many stunning beaches close by including Patara Beach and Kaputas Beach. Kalamar Bay boasts the Kalkan Dive Centre and Aqua Sports who offer many watersports experiences including scuba diving, jet skis and private boat hire.
The quieter, picturesque resort of Kas is about 25 minutes away. It is also very pretty with narrow lanes, atmospheric, upmarket restaurants and beautiful boutiques and shops. It is utterly charming and definitely worth the 25 minute drive.
If you would like to visit historical sites, Patara is a fantastic excursion. It boasts an ancient theatre, restored parliament building and impressive Roman baths. The preserved ‘ghost village’ of Kayakoy where hundreds of deserted, Greek-style houses and churches sit eerily on the hillside should also be on your list of excursions. It was abandoned after the Turkish-Greek population exchange of 1923 and is eerily silent.
After a few relaxing days on the beach or staying put in the villa you may be seeking an active day. Guests enjoy kayaking along the Dalyan River or visiting the majestic and dramatic Saklikent Gorge which was opened as a national park in 1996. The gorge is 18km long and 300m deep. Visitors wade through chilly water, climb, swim and slide through the gorge and its many boulders and tunnels. It is exhilarating and great fun with the fresh mountain water often up to waist height. Guides can lead you through offering so much fun. River rafting and dining by the waterside are additional options at this marvellous location.

Kalkan
Kalkan has become boutique resorts, with cobbled streets and converted Greek houses, which belonged to the Greek merchants before the exchange of population in the 1920’s. Once quiet fishing harbours these days you are more likely to see traditional wooden gulets taking tourists to soak up rays on the sparkling turquoise Mediterranean. A boat trip is a must do, from the boat you can snorkel and usually a delicious lunch is prepared on board. Keen walkers should check out the Lycian way for designated walking paths in the area.
You cannot come to this area without spending some time exploring the many Lycian sights, such as Xanthos, Patara, Myra or the sunken city of Kekova.
Patara is said to be where democracy started (they excavated stone voting block) and is also said to be the birthplace of St Nicholas, who became bishop at nearby Myra. The ruins here include an ancient theatre, city walls, government build and agora. The lighthouse on the site is said to be the earliest of its kind. Visit Patara in the late afternoon and finish the trip with a drink on the sandy beach watching the amazing sunset.
The Salikent Gorge is a great place to visit, especially if you want to cool off in the fresh waters whilst walking up the gorge. For the more energetic there are rafts and rings to ride the flowing waters. Further down you can enjoy a day canoeing toward the beach.
Islamlar sits 8 km above Kalkan. Once the place Kalkan folk went to cool off at one of the trout farms built to make use of the mountain’s springs. Today Islamlar houses many a villa, enjoyed by Istanbul Turks who prefer a holiday in slightly cooler and cleaner air. Here the locals grow grapes and pomegranates, but you’ll mainly see the men sat gossiping next to the local teahouse. The trout farms remain a place to come for a wonderful fresh meal, or a breakfast consisting of fresh local fare. The rocket will be the freshest & most tasty you’ve ever had; and the fresh chips cooked in olive oil take some beating.
By night both Kalkan and Kas come alive. Kas has more of a bohemian feel, people ambling through the cobbled streets, passing the ancient tomb in the street, haggling for textiles, carpets and other goodies, maybe stopping for the traditional Turkish ‘maras’ ice cream, a tulip-shaped glass of tea or a wonderful kebab in the shadow of the mosque. Most of the villas in Kas are just out of town on the Cukurbag Peninsula. A reasonable (5km) taxi or Dolmus (local bus) ride into town. Be sure to try the Piyaz, a white bean salad with tahini sauce.
Travelling along the coast, towards Kalkan you pass the modern marina, the children’s beach park (run by the local hotel school) and halfway to Kalkan the stunning Kaputas Beach, cut in a gorge with all different shades of turquoise in the sea.
Kalkan is a more sophisticated resort, with the villas built onto the mountainside. Evening are spent enjoying the rooftop restaurants, perched on the top of the old ‘konak’ houses. Then wandering to a seaside bar for a cocktail, after shopping for glass lanterns, Iznik pottery, handbags or pestemel towel. Do visit the ‘pastane’, local patisseries which do the most delicious morning pastries and you must try the ‘Gozleme’ pancakes at the Thursday market.
Other things to do in the area include scuba diving as the visibility is excellent, paragliding, horseriding on Patara Beach or kayaking around the sunken ruins at Kekova.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Arzu is perfect for a multi-generational family holiday or even three families that want to holiday together. It offers excellent entertainment spaces in each apartment as well as a superb lower level terrace and pool. The villa is just five minutes walk from the centre where children love buying a few souvenirs in the shops. Kalamar Bay offers a superb range of watersports and a dive school where they can experience dives if they are old enough. Patara Beach’s 20km stretch of silver sand is an excellent beach option for families. The fascinating, ancient Patara ruins are located at one end of the beach. The beach is also an important site for loggerhead turtles which young ones love to spot. The white-shingle cove of Kaputas is also a popular pick.
There are a fantastic range of boat trips from the harbour at Kalkan. Children love swimming in deserted coves, jumping from the boat and off rocks, spotting turtles swimming in the stunning azure waters and snorkeling around the coves. The traditional wooden Turkish gulets offer a fabulous day out with delicious fresh fish lunches cooked and served on the boat.
The small, beautiful, uninhabited island of Kekova is a delightful family excursion. You will discover the island’s remains of a sunken ancient city visible below the waves. The ruins are of the trading post, Simena which was destroyed by earthquakes in the second century. You can take a boat trip to Kekova from Kalkan Harbour.
Thrill seeking children enjoy canoeing along the Xanthos River to Patara Beach, taking mud baths on the way or trips to the dramatic Salikent Gorge. Children love clambering over rocks, sliding down them, finding tunnels and swimming to get through the gorge. It’s an Indiana-Jones style adventure and to top it off there is an optional river rafting trip at the end.

Can't wait to come back!
Having visited Kalkan many times we thought Villa Arzu ticked the boxes.
Its proximity to town makes it the closest I've ever stayed but also means you've restaurants and markets on your doorstep, but not close enough to hear the music as it's on a quite street.
For 3 families it was perfect, we could do our own thing for breakfast but get together by the pool or for sundowners.
The apartments are very well appointed, and very comfortable, and of course clean, I really can't find fault. There was a nice starter of food in the fridge which was great when we arrived. Fed and watered tired travellers!
Smart TV's mean if you do have downtime you can just sign in to Netflix and watch where you left off.
Kalkan is a lovely boutique resort, rooftop restaurants line the cobbled streets and everyone is very friendly.
We spent a few days at Indigo Beach Club, a shout out for the great burgers and homemade chips. Olive Garden roof terrace for a more Turkish menu. You have to do a boat trip, they all include a delicious lunch. Another must is a trip to Patara, see the ruins, lovely sandy beach and the sunsets are magical.
The Thursday market is another must, 5 mins walk from Villa Arzu, it's a feast for the eyes but do try the Gozleme pancakes!
In summary we just loved that it was just a short walk to Villa Arzu from the old town, a treat at the end of the night, very comfortable accommodation and the fact it is set as three apartments gives 3 families privacy yet can enjoy a holiday together. Looking to book again for next year.
