It can accommodate up to two people, ideal for a romantic couple’s getaway, a honeymoon hideaway, or perfect for a single person to escape from it all.

Villa Sahil Su 6 is built in a traditional stone cottage style, featuring wood-timbered high ceilings and a thatched roof. The villa is surrounded by well-manicured tiered gardens, populated with ancient gnarled olive trees, colourful bougainvillaea, sweet-scented jasmine, high stone walls and tall trees for privacy and shade. The property has secure parking, complimentary air conditioning, and Wi-Fi throughout. The interiors are delightfully minimalist for maximum impact, furnished with contemporary pieces, and decorated in a tranquil colour palette of shades of grey and beige.

Take the stone steps to the secluded villa, nestled in tall verdant trees. The open-plan living space is light, bright, and airy, with floor-to-ceiling, breathtaking sea-view sliding doors that open onto the pool terrace. The welcoming seating area has a smart grey comfy sofa, a wood coffee table, and a flat-screen television. The local stone walled and wood, farmhouse style kitchen is fully equipped with all the latest appliances you will need for your holiday, including that must-have morning coffee maker. Even better, let the concierge team organise in-villa dining with your own private chef. The picture window, sea view master bedroom is elegantly appointed, with a large handcrafted wooden double bed, an open-plan wardrobe, a flat-screen television, a table for two, and an ensuite marble bathroom.

The outdoor living space is superb, with your own private step-entry, infinity plunge pool, and two cappuccino-coloured cushioned, wooden sun loungers with shady brollies. The paved terrace is home to a relaxing matching two-seater soft seating set, perfectly positioned to capture those panoramic vistas as you sit sipping champagne and watching the yachts sail by. Stroll down the stone path to a shared mini private beach club with a bathing platform hewn out of the rocks, lazy day beds and parasols, convivial seating and meeting spots, and immediate access into the calm, clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. As dusk falls, feast alfresco under the twinkling stars at the two-seater dining set. Villa Sahil Su 6 is located at the water’s edge, overlooking beautiful Kalamar Bay, to the west of the quaint harbour town of Kalkan, on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast. The town of Kalkan is 125 kilometres from Dalaman Airport, a scenic one and a half hour journey through the Turkish countryside and Taurus mountains.

Local shops and supermarkets in Kalamar are stocked with provisions for your holiday and lots of friendly cafes, bars, and restaurants. The sea is on your doorstep, staying at Villa Sahil Su 6 includes the use of a shared mini beach club with bathing platforms and direct entry into the cool, calm waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Within walking distance are two fabulous beach clubs with bathing platforms, restaurants, water sports, and swimming pools.

The old town of Kalkan has cobbled streets full of traditional white houses, home to a reputed one hundred and fifty restaurants, cafes, and bars, enticing souvenir shops, and designer brand stores stuffed with objects of desire. After dark, dine in one of the famous rooftop restaurants with stunning harbour and sea views, sampling traditional Turkish delights and international cuisine. Kalkan has its own pebble beach with organised sun loungers and brollies, easy access into the calm Mediterranean sea, and its own cute cafe.

Travel further afield to the stunning Kaputas Beach, set in a natural gorge, only two hundred steps down and two hundred steps back up again. Take a trip to Patara, where you will find twenty kilometres of unspoilt golden sands and a protected area for the hatching Caretta Caretta turtles. Patara also boasts an archaeological site over two thousand years old, with two ancient amphitheatres and the most stunning sunsets, best seen from the ever-changing sand dunes.

All aboard for a day of swimming and snorkelling aboard a traditional gulet, enjoy a lunch of local homecooked meze, take afternoon tea, and then sail back to harbour cocktail in hand to watch the sunset. The Lycian Way walking trail cuts through Kalkan, follow in the footsteps of thousands of years of history, as you trek the trail taking you through major archaeological sites, local villages, dramatic coastlines, and the areas’ flora and fauna. Discover the historical sites of Xanthos, Patara, Letoon, Tlos, Sidyma, and Pinara, where you can see the ancient ruins, amphitheatres and temples with Lycian, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine influences. The harbour town of Fethiye is also full of ancient sites, a foodie-heaven fish market, and home to some seriously good designer label shopping.

The Ottoman town of Kas is twenty-five kilometres in the other direction, along one of the world’s most stunning and dramatic coastlines. Walk through the harbour to the cobbled streets with overhanging balconies festooned with pastel coloured bougainvillaea, barter for unique handmade and antique goods in its many shops, and dine in a traditional restaurant serving authentic Turkish cuisine with mesmerising sea views. If you are feeling intercontinental, hop on the twenty-minute ferry from Kas to the Greek island of Meis, where you can swim in the mystical Blue Cave and dine by candlelight at the water’s edge.

Kalkan

Kalkan has become boutique resorts, with cobbled streets and converted Greek houses, which belonged to the Greek merchants before the exchange of population in the 1920’s. Once quiet fishing harbours these days you are more likely to see traditional wooden gulets taking tourists to soak up rays on the sparkling turquoise Mediterranean. A boat trip is a must do, from the boat you can snorkel and usually a delicious lunch is prepared on board. Keen walkers should check out the Lycian way for designated walking paths in the area.

You cannot come to this area without spending  some time exploring the many Lycian sights, such as Xanthos, Patara, Myra or the sunken city of Kekova.

Patara is said to be where democracy started (they excavated stone voting block) and is also said to be the birthplace of St Nicholas, who became bishop at nearby Myra. The ruins here include an ancient theatre, city walls, government build and agora. The lighthouse on the site is said to be the earliest of its kind. Visit Patara in the late afternoon and finish the trip with a drink on the sandy beach watching the amazing sunset.

The Salikent Gorge is a great place to visit, especially if you want to cool off in the fresh waters whilst walking up the gorge. For the more energetic there are rafts and rings to ride the flowing waters. Further down you can enjoy a day canoeing toward the beach.

Islamlar sits 8 km above Kalkan. Once the place Kalkan folk went to cool off at one of the trout farms built to make use of the mountain’s springs. Today Islamlar houses many a villa, enjoyed by Istanbul Turks who prefer a holiday in slightly cooler and cleaner air. Here the locals grow grapes and pomegranates, but you’ll mainly see the men sat gossiping next to the local teahouse. The trout farms remain a place to come for a wonderful fresh meal, or a breakfast consisting of fresh local fare. The rocket will be the freshest & most tasty you’ve ever had; and the fresh chips cooked in olive oil take some beating.

By night both Kalkan and Kas come alive. Kas has more of a bohemian feel, people ambling through the cobbled streets, passing the ancient tomb in the street, haggling for textiles, carpets and other goodies, maybe stopping for the traditional Turkish ‘maras’ ice cream, a tulip-shaped glass of tea or a wonderful kebab in the shadow of the mosque. Most of the villas in Kas are just out of town on the Cukurbag Peninsula. A reasonable (5km) taxi or Dolmus (local bus) ride into town. Be sure to try the Piyaz, a white bean salad with tahini sauce.

Travelling along the coast, towards Kalkan you pass the modern marina, the children’s beach park (run by the local hotel school) and halfway to Kalkan the stunning Kaputas Beach, cut in a gorge with all different shades of turquoise in the sea.

Kalkan is a more sophisticated resort, with the villas built onto the mountainside. Evening are spent enjoying the rooftop restaurants, perched on the top of the old ‘konak’ houses. Then wandering to a seaside bar for a cocktail, after shopping for glass lanterns, Iznik pottery, handbags or pestemel towel. Do visit the ‘pastane’, local patisseries which do the most delicious morning pastries and you must try the ‘Gozleme’ pancakes at the Thursday market.

Other things to do in the area include scuba diving as the visibility is excellent, paragliding, horseriding on Patara Beach or kayaking around the sunken ruins at Kekova.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages

Kalkan is the perfect holiday hot spot for kids of all ages. Starting with the villa’s private plunge pool, and as there are no set hours, your children can swim and splash all day.

The family-friendly Kalamar and Kulube Beach Clubs are within walking distance, with shallow entry warm sea, bathing platforms, a swimming pool, and water sports. In the pretty town of Kalkan, you will find an original authentic Turkish village full of winding streets of white-washed houses, family-friendly restaurants and cafes, and shops galore selling souvenirs.

For your older daredevils, Aristos Water Sports will take them on exhilarating sea rides, tandem parasailing, jet skis, and racing speed boats. For the not so adventurous, Kalkan has a public pebble beach with sunbeds and brollies, safe entry into the calm sea and a rather good cafe. A trip to Kalkan isn’t complete without a family day at sea on one of the traditional gulets that leave the harbour daily. Stopover in beautiful bays, wallow in mud bath inlets, then swim and snorkel in the warm waters of the Turquoise Coast. If you are lucky, you may see a turtle; if you are lucky, a dolphin or two might pop their fins up too. Enjoy the magnificent meze lunch made on board before an afternoon tea of fresh fruit and cake, then sail home as the sun sets. While in town, book a day trip for all the family. Enjoy an adventurous jeep safari through the local villages, see the natural flora and fauna, and ride the famous Patara sand dunes.

Go further afield to Sakilkent Gorge, where you can walk through a flowing river to a magnificent waterfall. Just around the bend is the baby sister waterfall of Gizlikent, ramble down a stepped wood to cool waters, and take a refreshing natural shower in the sunshine. Take a trip to Kekova and see a sunken city through a glass-bottomed boat. On the way to Fethiye, stop at the ghost town of Kaya, where you can explore the ruins of an abandoned Greek town with original houses, schools, churches, and chapels. The town of Olu Deniz offers the best of both worlds, with stunning sandy beaches with easy entry shallow waters and a magnificent one thousand seven hundred metre cable car ride up to the top of Mount Babadag, from where you can tandem paraglide back down and land where you started. A short boat taxi journey from Olu Deniz will take you to Butterfly Valley, where your children can discover over eighty species of beautiful butterflies in nature’s garden, best seen in May and June. Enjoy your favourite film under the stars at the Indigo Beach Club weekly screening in the evenings, then stop for dondurma at Turkey’s famous ice cream stalls.
