Villa Syrna is a characteristic 2-bedroom house, perfect for an away-from-it-all, romantic and peaceful escape. This holiday is as far away from mass tourism as one could get, yet has the creature comforts we have all come to expect and enjoy. The villa is in a stunning setting in the forests of the Bozburun Peninsula with easy access to beaches, villages, and tiny harbours.
Villa Syrna was built in 2017 using traditional local stone, by the charming Turkish owner, Ayhan, who we have known for many years. Ayhan is a qualified guide and is happy to offer private guided adventures - be they on foot, or by car - around the unspoilt peninsula or further afield to breath-taking sites like Ephesus or Aphrodisias.
The villa is laid out over one floor. Enter a large open-plan room with sitting, kitchen, and dining areas. The room benefits from a double-height ceiling, with windows providing an incredible view across the valley to the sea in the distance. The interiors feature a lot of natural wood and fabrics, furnishings are comfortable with traditional Turkish style. The two bedrooms, a twin, and a double, are located to either side of the living area, with a family shower/ WC between.
Doors open onto an alfresco dining terrace, and pool area, again enjoying amazing views across the village to the mountains. The pool is infinity style with water cascading over the edge. The is cool jacuzzi built from stone, perfect to sit in and enjoy the view with a glass of wine. The area looks down over terraces of wild ground down the hillside.
A car is essential to explore the local area, an area that has only recently been discovered by Turkey's domestic tourism. This is the perfect villa for a taste of real Turkey, either for couples or a small family and the perfect away from it all romantic and peaceful escape.
If you're a larger family or two families travelling together, Villa Gulseren is close by.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa SyrnaLocated above the sleepy village of Bayir in the centre of the Bozburun Peninsula in Turkey. Villa Syrna is in a remote location but enjoys the most amazing views across the rugged countryside towards the sea. The position is fabulous for exploring the traditional villages and small shigle beaches, with simple restaurants behind. Surrounded by gardens and pine tree-lined forests, you can go on scenic rambles.
In Bayir itself, 3km from the villa, there are a handful of mini markets for picking up your daily essentials, alongside a few friendly local restaurants for trying traditional Turkish cuisine. The nearest sandy beach is at Delik or Ciftlik, just 10 minutes' drive. More unspoilt beaches, harbours and fishing villages of Hisaronu, Selimiye and Sogut are a 25-30-minute drive away. All these spots boast fabulous restaurants where you can experience traditional Turkish fayre and the freshest catch of the day.
There are a host of day trips, the small seaside town of Bozburun, known for building the traditional wooden gulets; there is a cooling waterfall and also The Carpet Weaver's Association at Turgutkoy; Osmaniye has a Bee Museum showing the local methods of an age-old trade, still practised by the villagers in Bayir. Slightly further afield is also the port town of Datca and the ancient ruins of city of Knidos. There, on the tip of the peninsula, where the cultures of Lydia, Persia, and the Byzantine and Ottoman empires stud the landscape, ancient church ruins, cisterns, and tombstones for exploring.
If you are a keen walker or want to discover more of this beautiful part of Turkey, you can walk some of the Carian Trail, Turkey's 500-mile long-distance path. It winds through the peninsula, with many places where you can enter it for a short stroll. The tracks on the hillsides around Bozburun are marked with sign post and painted markings, so you shouldn’t get lost!

Marmaris & Bozburun
The South West coast of Turkey offers the perfect climate for your holiday, boasting over 280 dry days a year and an average June temperature of 28 degrees Celsius in this area, with sea temperatures of 23 deegress celsius. For keen walkers the paths of the Carian way will take you around the area.
Sat on the site of the Carian city of Physkos, Marmaris started welcoming European tourists in the 1980’s. At the time big hotels were what the travel agents were selling. The surrounding areas remained unspoilt and in recent years villas have popped up in less touristic areas. Marmaris still has a picturesque vista and the areas around the harbour, Netsel Marina and the castle are worth a visit. The castle was reconstructed by Suleyman the Magnificent during his expedition against Rhodes and houses a small museum. You couldn’t find better places to try an authentic Doner Kebab than some of the restaurants behind the bazaar, or for a more sophisticated version go to the Baris Ustu Kebabci in the Netsel Marina.
The Bozburun Peninsula represents the real hidden Turkey. In recent years wealthier Turks have headed to these parts to enjoy the thyme-scented air that is said to be ultra-healthy due to being high in oxygen as a result of the trees and proximity to the sea Throughout the peninsula villagers live as their ancestors did a century ago, tilling the land of a small holding, keeping bees or working in ancient trades handed down through generations. The women work hard to keep house and land. Every village has a teahouse where you’ll see the men making business over a game of Tavla (backgammon), slowly drinking endless cups of crystal clear black Cay (tea), drunk out of tulip-shaped glasses. The peninsula has loads of lovely restaurants, simple but delicious food. Enjoy fish in Selimiye; choose mezes from the kitchen and wash it all down with a glass of Lion’s Milk, the slang for Turkish Raki, an aniseed spirit that becomes white when water is added.
Travelling around the peninsula, there’s Orhaniye where you can walk the sand spit, Turgut where you can see the ancient trade of carpet weaving and visit the waterfall to cool off, especially if you purchased a carpet. Sogut is a hidden gem, and where a long seafood lunch is the way to go. There is a bee ‘museum’ in Osmaniye which pays homage to the local production of pine honey. Turunc, Amos and Kumlubuk sit on the southeastern coast of the peninsula. Kumlubuk has a sweeping beach, and a sandy shingle, water-sports and a few restaurants. Amos has a smaller pebble beach and a popular restaurant selling a range of Turkish favourites. Turunc is more of a resort, with a few streets behind the beach, plenty of eateries, shops and bars. Give it a little time as it is somewhere people fall in love with. Further around is Icmeler, which merges into the bigger Marmaris.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Syrna is surrounded by nature, a great spot for walkers and anyone wanting to enjoy all that nature has to offer. You can really get to see the real Turkey. The villa has a TV with DVD player for those entertainment evenings in and a swimming pool for kids to splash about in. You can go on scenic walks around the local area. The nearest village, Bayir, is a short 2km from the villa (mainly roadside walking, but the roads aren't busy) . There you’ll find a mini-market for picking up essentials, alongside family-friendly restaurants. There are also beaches just 10 minutes’ drive from the villa, with calm waters that are ideal for swimming. Delik or Ciftlik are popular choices.
From Villa Syrna, you’re a 25-30 minute drive from the unspoilt beaches, harbour and fishing villages of Hisaronu, Selimiye and Sogut. You could also head to Datca town with ancient ruins and cultural sites, alongside coves, bays, and beaches in abundance. Often the water remains shallow for some distance offshore, making it safe for younger children to paddle or swim.
For some holiday learning there is a local beekeeping museum, the Carpet Weavers Association where they can learn about the same process that's been around for years, and lots of farm animals the villagers keep in their smallholdings. There are many Carian sites within a 2-hour drive which is another insight into the history of the area.

7 years
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
I've lived in Bayir for over 20 years, my house is close by, divided by an Olive Grove. The plot is 8000 sq metres, It' quiet and so close to nature, I just love the view across the trees to Selimiye Bay
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
The position enjoys a breeze in high season between two bays, Ciftlik and Bayir, because of this the temperature here is a few degrees cooler than Marmaris
Do you have a favourite room in the property?
I like the house, as its bungalow style and the high ceiling in the living room, plus the scenery is so natural
For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
You should go to Old Datca, Knidos ancient site and modern Datca, it’s such a contrast. As a qualified guide I can always guide you there if you want all the history and local tips
Really do?
In the spring and autumn you should do a walking tour, there is so much to see, lovely natural smells and the green of nature.
Really eat?
Turkish tea and gozleme (Turkish Savoury Pancakes)
Really see?
You have to see one of the Lycian sites whilst you are in Turkey
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
At night time , pour a drink, turn the lights off, sit in the jacuzzi and watch the stars, you may even see a shooting star!

Lovely relaxing quiet villa
The 4 of us had such a lovey week at Villa Syrna. The pool is fantastic and the views and location are great. The villa is spacious and well stocked and the lovely host provided a great welcome hamper and saw to all our needs (but left us alone when appropriate). The location is quite remote and roads can be a bit rural so a car is essential, but there are plenty of restaurants / cafes nearby. There aren’t any sandy beaches but harbours and bays where you can access the sea which is great for snorkelling. WiFi is slow at the villa but maps seemed to work ok. The jacuzzi is huge and refreshing as slightly cooler than the pool.

Everything has been perfect
We are now home after a lovely stay at Villa Syrna and I wanted to thank the team for all your help with the booking and arrangements. The service from Oliver's Travels has been excellent and we would have no hesitation in recommending your company to others.
Everything about our stay at Villa Syrna has been perfect. The location is wonderfully remote. It's beautiful situation has a back drop of sweet smelling cedar and pine forests and dramatic rocky gorges. The views out towards the Mediterranean and Aegean seas from the sun terrace and sublime infinity pool are spectacular especially at sunrise and sunset.
The Villa is equipped with a great attention to detail and has everything required including a dishwasher and washing machine. The Villa is perfect for a couple but would easily accommodate 4 people. Our delightful host Ayhan could not have been more helpful and was readily available for advice and guidance whilst always respecting our privacy.
For a truly quiet and peaceful getaway we would highly recommend Villa Syrna and we cannot wait to return. Due to its remote location we would strongly advise hiring a car. -
A fantastic stay in the most stunning scenery
We had the most fantastic getaway at Ayhan’s property on the Bozburun peninsula.
The property itself is totally secluded, with a lovely swimming pool and jacuzzi. It is perfectly set up to use and a very comfortable property. The views are incredible, you can see right through to the sea in front of you as well as the village of Bayir below.
A short drive from the property are several beautiful and quiet beaches where we swam and snorkelled every day. It was also a short drive to restaurants and bars, at seminyi and orihaniye. For something larger, marmaris is not too far away.
Ayhan was the perfect host, providing us with a lovely hamper on our arrival, providing us with expert local knowledge and taking us on a guided tour of Knidos and Datca.
We couldn’t recommend this property enough. Thanks for a wonderful stay Ayhan. -
Amazing
We had a wonderful time at the Villa. Ayhan (the owner) was so attentive and kept the villa and pool in pristine condition. The fact that we were completely secluded provided an amazing opportunity for our family to unwind and enjoy the pool as much as we wanted. The star filled sky, the rustle of the beautiful summer breeze and the chirpy birds were all the company we really wanted!
This place is a wonderful gem and we would highly recommend families to go and seek solace there. -
A fantastic Villa superbly situated…
A fantastic Villa superbly situated with outstanding views. Absolute solitude and away from it all if that is what you are after. Within easy reach of village of Bayir for shopping basics and small restaurants. If you are not into walking - you need a car. Villa owner Ayhan is super helpful, respectful of your privacy and speaks excellent English. Our second visit and will definitely be visiting again. Superb!

Relaxing holiday with lots to do
We stayed at Villa Syrna in November when the weather was warm enough to swim in the sea but the evenings were cold enough to light the log fire and cosy up indoors. The view from the villa was incredible and we watched the sunset over the mountains every night. Ayhan, who owns the villa and lives nearby, gave excellent recommendations for day trips and restaurants. There was loads to do - driving the coast roads to secluded beaches, exploring Knidos, enjoying the delicious local food…
We couldn’t have had a more relaxing holiday in such an unspoilt and special place.

You will not find a more serene place to holiday.
Me and my partner had the absolute pleasure of staying in this hilltop hideaway on the Bozburan pensinula, and we cannot recommend it enough.
If you are looking for quiet, comfort, relaxation and a place to recharge you'll struggle to find better than this.
The villa is located in a sleepy town in the hills of the Bozburan peninsula, surrounded by pine trees and overlooking one of the many jaw-dropping valleys in this beautiful part of the world. We rented a car which gave us easy access to the numerous bays and harbours in your orbit. Driving down those roads at sunset every evening to our dinner destinations was just sublime and, trust me, it is very easy to eat well in the area.
The villa itself is perfect for a couple or small family, well laid out, with a nice combination of rustic decor and modern appliances. There is Aircon, but we didn't need it - there is a constant gentle breeze from the West which kept the place plenty cool (it's also makes a welcome addition to long sunbathing sessions).
Ayhan, the owner, lives nearby and was an excellent source of information about the area, what to do, where to eat, and generally made our stay very comfortable - not least with the generous hamper of delicious local produce he provided us which kept us going for many a breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Thanks to Ayhan and Oliver's Travels for an absolute belter. It will be so hard to beat I suspect we'll be back soon in time.

Wonderful week at Villa Syrna…
We had a wonderful week at Villa Syrna in Bayir Turkey. It was a magical place and so well cared for by the owner who lives close by. The views were breath taking from dawn to dusk. It was the best pool we have ever had. If you want a quiet week in the real Turkey, high in the mountains and surrounded by pine trees you couldn’t do better.
If you can tear yourself away from the pool and views there are lovely local markets and small seaside resorts easily reached. Car essential! -
Book this Villa!
If you are looking for a beautiful villa, with everything you need, an amazing pool in a quiet, peaceful and private location with a friendly, helpful and very generous owner, this is the one!
Villa Syrna is set up in the mountains in a beautiful area with views that you can look at all day. The pool is amazing, the villa spacious and so clean, a lovely welcome hamper, lots of seating areas and above all so quiet and relaxing.
The village has some restaurants and there are many others not far away, as with supermarkets.
We would say transport is essential so you can visit the beautiful villages at the coast. This could be a car or a moped (which is what we did if you are used to bikes).
Ayhan, who owns the villa lives a short distance away, so always on hand to offer advice or help. He is also a guide so ask him about the private tours that he can do for you, we spent a lovely day out with him exploring the Datca Peninsula. Ayhan can also recommend places to eat and where to get your shopping, he is also happy to help and collect shopping for you.
We really enjoyed our 10 days at this villa, we miss not only the villa but also Ayhan's friendship. -
Fantastic and heavenly villa!
Just the 2 of us for this visit. If you are looking for seclusion, tranquillity and just to get away from it all then this is the place for you. A fantastic villa situated close to the small village of Bayir. Nightlife lovers base yourselves from Maramis! 1 double bed and 2 singles (2 rooms). The villa has everything provided and is light, airy with a rustic feel. The pool and jacuzzi are superb. No neighbours and totally isolated for peace and quiet if you want it. Absolutely stunning views and situated in the hills. If you are into walking (we were), there are many trails leading off from the villa. Bayir is a couple of kilometres away and has access to basic groceries and a couple of restaurants. There is a market on Fridays which provides fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese/butter. If you are not into walking - you need a car. Naturally this will provide you with access to other areas and better shopping from Maramis. We chose not to and arranged a transfer from the airport which suited us fine. The owner (Ayhan) lives close by and speaks excellent English. He is extremely helpful, respectful of your privacy and very knowledgeable of the local area and can provide guided tours if you wish. An absolutely terrific place and thoroughly recommend a visit. Loved it!
